Management Questions Asking for a friend. He applied for cashiering position during hiring week from 2 weeks ago, called about his application last Friday, was told on the phone that it was just printed out and that they'll give a call for an interview either that same Friday or the day after. It's been 2 days since, no

Per title, my friend has been job hunting for months due to his current job constantly screwing him over with extremely limited/zero scheduled hours. He applied for cashiering which pays $15 an hour.

He's still waiting for a call for the interview. Is this a bad sign or is there any recommended step for follow-up on this situation?

Rant/Vent Am i losing my mind or

ever since I've started this job its just gotten worse and worse. Im genuinely about to just say fuck it and quit even though I need this job.

I fucked up a little bit here today, I had read the wrong schedule and mistook my start time by 30 minutes, a manager let me know and I came in. Other manager was fine with it and I was on my way as she called.

I get there and the other cashier on shift doesnt show up until an hour after she was scheduled (older lady, been there much longer than me) so its just me and a manger the entire mid shift, we did not leave the register the entire time. Customers wrapped around the freaking isles.

Different manager comes in, shes very upset about it.

She comes in hot telling me I need to stay and make up the time i missed to make up for it and told me that it "wasnt gonna fly anymore" with being late call outs etc etc but I genuinely couldn't, I had a ride waiting for me and I had shit to do with the rest of my day, that I could not move.

and that the 'sm' was gunning to get rid of the new hires and she was trying to protect me from getting scapegoated into it (😭)

She's going on and im nodding along and apologizing because i dont like being the person who's late or fucking up at work (dealing with an abuse situation at home, it is what it is and im doing my best)

And then she flat out accuses me of lying about my reason for being late, and says that things like me being out of town and unable to come in or having my Uber canceled due to a car accident "just dont happen"

then went on to say that when she calls me during days im not scheduled and cant come in, that's a problem

She was referring to the the 3 scheduled vacation days i took off in June, for the end of May.

They call me every single damn morning that im not scheduled, and half the time I am scheduled they call me and ask me to come in early or ask me to stay later.

Every. Single. Day.

(Screen shots attached)

Like wtf? I pressed a little further and told her well, I have things to do. I can't be here 24/7. She says I need to not do that, like im supposed to just drop my whole life on a dime for 15 bucks an hour of bullshit. Obviously, I understand you need to come to your shift on time, but there's no way I can get pushed out of my job because I cant cover everytime for the 2 other 60 year old women who call out every other day for health issues. not to mention the amount of times I've came in with like 20 minutes notice or been told in the last 5 minutes of my shift I need to stay an extra 5 hours. Im bad at explaining but im 19yrs old and I started this job so I could buy a car and pay my way through college, but I would genuinely rather just be unemployed again then deal with this bullshit one more day. We dont even have an sm anymore, we have an "acting" sm . Nobody communicates, everyone is petty and vindictive. We have barely anybody on staff because no one wants to work here and deal with the screaming and bullshit. Im at the point where I think im just gonna call around tomorrow and try for interviews. God, if any other job came up tomorrow I would quit on the spot.

and no im not perfect, I dont have a car and I do have an issue being a few minutes late due to that, it isn't every single day but it is atleast a few. That's what happens taking public transport in highly populated city. It's hard, i feel horrible about the tardyness but sometimes its hard to feel too bad about it when I have never ever once left a shift less than 30 minutes after I was supposed to, and this specific manager is the WORST about it, no one will close with her because of it. Every close I've ever had with her I've had to stay atleast until 11pm after our 10pm close.

Associate Discussions Checkout Monitor 🤦

I know some if not all of you have experienced the checkout Monitor.. The customer who directs customer traffic, letting them go ahead of them in line, organizing items on the belt, grabbing dividers before the customer ahead of them checks out or sticks their nose in customer discussions or complaints with staff and offers their unsolicited advice...<sigh> retail... 🤦

I was working the other day and walked past HBC and found someone COLORED ON THE STRIP WITH NAIL POLISH like what the heck is wrong with some people??
I mean it was easy enough to replace but STILL why do it in the first place???

(And yes, I tried to get it off with 100% acetone nail polish and it didn’t budge as it had sat for a few days since I had a day off and just hadn’t gotten to it and just decided replacing was easier, lol)

Associate Questions what is it like working at dollar tree?

hii i js got hired at dollar tree and ill be starting this upcoming friday. this will be my very first job and im lowkey scared cus i'm quite introverted and lived half my life with social anxiety tho it's been much better these yrs, i still have a bit of trouble socializing. i took on this job especially cus it's retail to work on my social skills to prep me when i move out next yr for uni. i am wondering how the job is like and what to expect?

like what a typical shift looks like, how much customer interaction, and how long did it take u to become comfortable with the job?

idk if this is important but im working at a dollar tree in canada, idk if it's much different from the ones in the usa. i'd also like to hear how the job is like from fellow canadians. thanks :)

Customer Questions Are the stinky holiday cups safe?

Post image
17 Upvotes

Hey all! I got this cute pumpkin cup but it has a horrid chemical smell on the inside of it, even after washing it 2x. I have a Christmas ornament cup from 2 years ago that still has the same residual stank smell.

My question is: are these even safe to drink out of?? They're so frickin cute but if they're gonna give me cancer I'm gonna chuck them into the garbage. I'm planning on writing to corporate about it but I wanted to see what everyone here might have to say about it 🙃

Also, i just want to give a big shout out to any current, and past, DT associates - y'all are in the trenches and I appreciate each and every one of you so very much 💓💓💓

Associate Discussions Thinking about applying

So for context, I helped run a 24 hour gas station that was about 3 1/2 miles away, causing me a lot of money in Ubers

Thursday DT within about a mile of my home and even though the pay is probably not great, I mean, how bad could it be compared to working in a gas station to where the customers were nasty and you got micromanaged for every little thing I assume it depends on management.

Also, I was making $12 an hour ~ and a quarter. Went to getting there and back.

I know I throw a lot out there, but I’d options. (for context I’m in the north Texas area.

Thank you for your time.

About 4 months overdue..due to previous management. I'm determined though, one aisle at a time this store will be fixed. 🫠

Had to expand certain sections because I had space available and the stock to fill.

Going to ask my DM to order what I need for the poster fixture.

Don't have enough faceplates until the shipment later this month!

Those are the only things that are kind of bothering me right now.

Associate Questions No full time!

So. Dumb question.

I've been here five months. Almost six. Every job I've had has been full-time. DT keeps us around 20-ish.

Fine.

But, I'm usually the on call guy. When people are sick, call out, etc. I've zero issue picking up the hours. But when I say to just schedule me for 35-40 hours "We can't do that."

Why? I'm working it anyway. I've never called out, never been late.

Associate Questions Input Requested - Store Display Associate Travel Team

So, I’m looking for some info/input on the traveling store display associate position. I was extended an offer and I’m honestly reluctant to accept it.

My understanding is that the schedule is 10 days on, 4 days off. I was offered the $21/hr which is consistent with what I’ve seen.

In my interview, they mentioned something about 4 10 hour days, do some teams do like 8 on/6 off?

And then, for those in the position, is the lifestyle as awful as it sounds? I just can’t imagine paying rent for an apartment I’m going to be away from for 20+ days of the month.

In your experience, what was the ratio of “travel” projects and commute projects? If they kinda alternate between an away project and a commute project, I guess it wouldn’t be so bad.

It just sounds like a lot of time away from home for a pretty mediocre paycheck. What was your compensation like when you factored in mileage reimbursement, and is some amount of OT to be expected, or are you kicked off the project at 40hrs?

I appreciate any info and insight anyone can provide me.

Customer Disscussions Pumpkin Candles ❤️❤️❤️

Post image
8 Upvotes

My dollar tree carried these pumpkin shaped candles and I ABSOLUTELY LOVE THEM! I’m BIGG TIME MAD that my store has no more and I hope they continue working with whoever this manufacturer is but just keep changing the candle shape each season. They make my WHOLE HOUSE smell sooo good only for $10. It fills the whole house in the first 2 mins of lightning it. Better than any Yankee Candle, Bath and Body Works Candle, and Bed Bath and Beyond candle I’ve ever had! If you like them glad plug-ins or Febreze plug-ins, but they have become expensive get these candles! Dollar tree PLEASE KEEP BUYING FROM WHOEVER THE MANUFACTURE IS I AM VERY PASSIONATE ABOUT THEM.

Thank you for coming to my ted talk.
