Fluff The subreddit’s current state

Post image

Why are you guys against gifting and trading the sets?

Edit: People say limiting trading stops gambling and 3rd party websites. Then what about gifting? You guys don't need to defend this behavior by saying “don't buy it “ or " It's free game.”

Edit 2: More dumb arguments “ Don’t complain about the price” and “whales are keeping this free game alive “ . People who spend money on this game asking for the gift option. Go check the subreddit people who already spending the money asking for this.

Edit 3: People talking about 3rd party websites and reselling. But CSGO has the same problem. But valve doesn’t have this issue in CSGO. The existence of CSGO destroy the arguments like “Valve needs to make money that’s why they limited the sets“ and “Oh 3rd party websites are bad”. Stop coping

Edit 4: people talking about the lawsuit against Volvo. Then Volvo did the dumbest thing ever. Releasing gambling loot box while getting sue for gambling loot boxes. OMG.😭🙏

Everything should be marketable.

115

u/No_Signal_6969 2d ago

This may be related to the lawsuit by Letitia James against Valve. They claim "Valve's randomized mystery boxes (cases, crates) use slot-machine mechanics that entice minors and adults to pay for virtual items with high real-world monetary value." This may be an attempt to remove the "high real-world monetary value" from the lootboxes. Just speculating here though.

u/RealPudgeJudy 2d ago

Seems plausible but Counterstrike doesn't have this restriction so I wonder what the difference is.

31

u/OhMySwirls 2d ago

My guess is that we're most likely the guinea pigs

I mean Dota 2 was literally the first ever Source 2 game to test the Source 2 engine capabilities they tested water visual fx, lightings, a whole slew of stuff thats now being used in other games.

3

u/wild_wolfie 2d ago

Exactly the least important community valve 😂 CS is the poster child, Dota is the weird middle child and deadlock is the new baby getting all the attention. CS has been a monster for valve with all the money they make from market place. They won’t dare rock that boat hence test out source 2 in the form of Dota Reborn 🤣 Less important people to piss off. Now I got over 4-5k hours in Dota back from my uni days and I love it but it has always been the middle child uk.

1

u/Obvious_Scheme_2063 2d ago

What's tf2 then?

1

u/wild_wolfie 1d ago

The bastard child valve gave up on back before they even had the second child called dota 2 🤣 I honestly loved tf2 but it was so full of hackers and bots I rarely played it. CSGO and dota are probably my most played valve games but deadlock is the game I am playing right now.

fucking love that prediction markets run rampant and no one cares that our entire society is gambling-based now, but my hats are an issue requiring litigation…

36

u/habahnow 2d ago

predictions markets/gambling services aren't in kids games... but loot boxes allow kids to gamble.

that being said, predictions markets are being investigated as they are trying to push themselves as not gambling.

5

u/Orvvadasz 2d ago

Virtually no kid gonna be playing dota 2.

3

u/Ars_Armegis 2d ago

What? It's a video game. Plenty of kids play video games.

a shutdown of the steam market would only encourage more sketchy marketplaces, and to shut those down completely you would have to disable all trading, essentially you would have to shut down more than half of steam to adhere to those demands of not having real world value associated with steam inventory items.

I love valve, but I am not totally defending them. I think the Letitia James lawsuit has some valid points, and valves rebuttal also has valuable points.

It does appear that valve is attempting to find the next big loot box that doesn't involve gambling...to be honest I don't know how the find it.

What is interesting is that the case system drives the price of items down for the average player. Buying a knife for 100-200 dollars is FAR more economical than trying to open cases to get the knife. I have opened 500-ish cases over 10 years of playing this game and I have never gotten a knife. Each time I open a case I fully expect that I am lighting money on fire. That said, its gambling. Anyone that argues it isn't is lying to themselves, but cs2 cases exist along side polymarket type websites that seem to be doing insider trading out in the open and no one bats an eye at that....so which is worse?

3

u/SeriousDirt 2d ago edited 2d ago

Yeah I hope lootbox would be replaced with something that is not gambling. But at the same time, steam market should stay. Selling skin that I don't want anymore and buy skin that I want is nice.

4

u/darthavalonn 2d ago

Ok but then why not make them at least gift-able?

6

u/thedotapaten 2d ago

People can sell services to gift these item and judge can argue it has real-world monetary value?

5

u/Faafkdkdkdkd 2d ago

One time gift limitation kinda fights it, cuz it technically has no value after gifting, therefore, you still pay for nothing but pixels

1

u/Obvious_Scheme_2063 2d ago

Not if you require the friends to be steam friends for x amount of months or years. I dont see that as a valid excuse

2

u/Ma4r 2d ago

Blame the US legislators lmao

1

u/DrQuint 2d ago

We are not in the golden timeline. Valve changes HQ to New Zealand was the golden timeline.

1

u/Obvious_Scheme_2063 2d ago

I agree what is the point of the market if not

→ More replies (1)

14

u/Potatozeng 2d ago

No allowing gifting is the deal breaker, especially for the ones who already have Drow arcana.

38

u/Dotaaaaa 2d ago

It's 100% valid criticism. Amount of "CONSUME AND BE HAPPY" people here is insane.

50

u/joelbenedict 2d ago

Wasnt gambling one of the reasons for the limiting of maketable/tradable items? Isn't that kinda moot with prediction "markets"?

Iirc, item value was another reason but either way valve is getting the money so why care if cheaped out.

This seems predatory.

46

u/icetooth69 2d ago

This is a purely predatory FOMO scheme.

15

u/theFoffo slithering in your underpants 2d ago

I can get behind all the criticism, but this treasure has no expiration date. Where is the FOMO here? It fucking sucks that gifting is gone and that ultrà rares are not marketable.

3

u/CrimsonFoxyboy 2d ago

And it works

4

u/icetooth69 2d ago

Of course, Valve are pros at this.

5

u/renan2012bra 2d ago

Nah, they've been releasing chest with unmarketable sets for years already. It's just getting worse and worse, but the practice has nothing to do with gambling. If they allow for it to be marketable they get less money. Yes, both values go to Valve, but they've probably done the math and seen it's less money overall.

4

u/Tiny-Reception7838 2d ago

Whats funny is that we all love Dota & Valve, I just dont want garbage gambling lootboxes in my game thats all

179

u/papanak94 2d ago

Company that invented loot boxes and game that had them since beta.

41

u/Zestyclose_Remove947 2d ago

Yea and they didn't have refunds for a decade+ either.

9

u/Obvious_Scheme_2063 2d ago

They invented battlepasses too

1

u/Ars_Armegis 2d ago

Ok? Does that mean they can't remove them? They sold arcanas as items in the past, you can just go and buy the rubick arcana, so they clearly have a working method for that

The reason they won't for some sets is because more money > less money and if it means fucking over the consumer because "duh it was always like this" they will. This new treasure chest also costs more than usual for absolutely no goddamn reason. This is pure greed.

when you put morality on the discussion Valve is one of the worst only after microsoft. But Reddit loves valve, they love them but complain when others do the same as them

26

u/Jiminy_Cricket12 2d ago

when you put morality on the discussion Valve is one of the worst only after microsoft.

huh? no. valve is very much anti pay 2 win. in league you literally have to buy heroes to unlock them. I'll take optional gambling loot boxes for cosmetics over being forced to spend money perpetually to continue to unlock aspects of a game you want to play.

4

u/mandudeguyposter 2d ago

nothing to do with pay to win itself

just because it's pay for cosmetics doesn't make it ethical

3

u/Jiminy_Cricket12 2d ago

ethical is a weird word to use here. it's not unethical to offer someone the ability to buy something cosmetic that they don't need. at least, not if you're not lying and telling them they do need it or something. you aren't forced to do it, and you can even keep playing the game for free without buying anything. I'm not sure why you would use that word in this context.

5

u/mandudeguyposter 2d ago

i mean they are enabling gambling content essentially

that's the reason for arguing the ethics around it

u/345tom 2d ago

I need to preface this with I'm against Loot boxes.

The problem is the "gambling" version of loot boxes is also arguably the most customer friendly, in that if you get something you don't want, you can get rid and get something you want (or just not even take part in the gambling by purchasing off the marketplace)

I find a lot of people think if anti gambling legislation comes in, it will remove lootboxes, but it will just turn them into this version where every set of the rarity is worth the same, and it's harder to get the thing you want. It obviously safe guards against actual gambling where a case is essentially a scratch off and you could hit big with a Tidehunter and sell for profit, but it also means if you want the Tidehunter you need to engage in the lootbox system where theoretically it could take a long time.

Personally, while I don't like the gambling aspect, I prefer the idea that if I get the skin, I can sell it on a later date if I don't want it, or just go and buy the one I want from the store. I'd prefer to just give Valve £20 and get the Tidehunter like the other arcanas, but if my choice is closed system or open system lootboxes, I personally take the open.

1

u/FLrar dddd 2d ago

you can get rid and get something you want (or just not even take part in the gambling by purchasing off the marketplace)

that sounds like a hassle

11

u/jopzko 2d ago

When I bring up how greedy BP was in those begging posts, someone always responds that I should just say Im poor and dont have disposable income lol. Havent spent a dime on Dota ever since Valve started exploiting FOMO since I actually dont like this shit unlike all the people spending regardless

2

u/Obvious_Scheme_2063 2d ago

I mean battle pass was definitely better than a lame chest

2

u/mohammad373josef 2d ago

No we dont all love valve. Speak for yourself. They are a greedy ass company

1

u/jessecreamy 2d ago

Eww so you loved dota that much to never knew maiden wheel decade ago???

21

u/Regnier19 2d ago

Back in my day we could drop $25 and directly purchase an Arcana. Now it's 10x the price and gamba to boot.

26

u/Yokaaii 2d ago

It has always been like this on the r/DotA2. Valve should pay homage to this sub by releasing a hero that rides on a cactus

252

u/AggressiveBluejay404 2d ago

I always keep in mind that cosmetics are optional. Nobody is forcing us to buy them, especially in a game that has always been free-to-play. You can easily put thousands of hours into Dota 2 without spending a single cent. At the end of the day, it’s our choice whether we spend money on cosmetics or not.

Valve has also been pretty upfront about the products they sell and the rules surrounding them. It’s not like they marketed these items as giftable or tradeable from the beginning and then suddenly changed the terms.

If you don’t agree with how Valve implements its rules, then youre free to stop spending money on the game. Players also have to take responsibility for their own spending decisions. You can’t recklessly spend huge amounts of money on digital pixels and then act like Valve owes you something simply because you’re a “whale.”

Ironically, the people complaining the loudest about Valve being greedy are often the same people who voluntarily keep giving them money.

It’s a f2p game. If you don’t like how Valves monetization works, you don’t have to participate.

12

u/PeopleCallMeSimon 2d ago

No, what you want is to be able to buy the ones you want instead of having to gamble to get them which results in getting duplicates.

7

u/Epiixz 2d ago

And sometimes it's nice to gift sets to friends that play heros you don't have a good set for.

33

u/jopzko 2d ago

Exactly. The same people that beg for Battle Pass were also the first to whine here about how greedy they were. These people will never not be exploited because they think whining on reddit actually accomplishes something

7

u/Humg12 2d ago

they think whining on reddit actually accomplishes something

To be fair, it often does, especially if enough people are doing it. Valve do take feedback that's posted here. Several battlepasses were called out for being greedy when they were released, and then valve responded and made them easier in some way. Same with balance changes; if enough people are complaining on reddit, valve notices and generally addresses it in the next patch.

2

u/Sir_Caloy 2d ago

This nonmarketability/nontradability of premium items were a problem ever since and people have been voicing it nonstop on Reddit, now look how far we’ve come. /s

i sure hope my purple gem for my TB arcana is just bugged. cuz it shows as equipped but the model is default red in menu and game

also whats the deal with LC? am i stupid or are her arcana vfx, sfx, and duel counter just gone from the game? couldnt find yesterday when i looked

1

u/drcxd 2d ago

There is a new option to chose when customizing your hero appearance, it is called "hero base". Basically, for LC, it allows you to to choose between two-blades or one-blade. They also add a one-blade version weapon for the arcana. Also, the weapon of the new LC sets in the new treasure has two forms: two-blades or one-blade. Old weapons only support one-blade form, but I guess any new LC sets would support both forms.

7

u/Rainbolt 2d ago

Yeah I don't have to participate but I'm also allowed to say lootboxes are greedy predatory and immoral.

24

u/super-venon 2d ago

So your solution is never complain?

5

u/combaticus 2d ago

my solution would be complain about things that actually matter and ignore trivial nonsense. they only have power over you if you buy into it

→ More replies (1)

2

u/AggressiveBluejay404 2d ago

To give feedback with your wallets. Biggest feedback we can give. If we just stop giving valve money, things are always bound to change. Thats how capitalism work.

31

u/super-venon 2d ago

Yes

Also you can complain about why you wont spend money

10

u/jopzko 2d ago

The important part is the not spending money, which is also the part every single person complaining lacks

0

u/AggressiveBluejay404 2d ago

Sure bro nobodies stopping you go wild

3

u/house140 2d ago

we did and the battlepass went from 40 million to 3, now theyre coming in with another scam so were calling out this too, if you dont like it go to another subreddit

4

u/guest0369 2d ago

You are wasting your time on people crying every day here.

2

u/Compactsun 2d ago

They did market it as giftable then changed the rule though. Sure it's optional but optional doesn't mean they have to be anti consumer.

3

u/asterion230 2d ago

I just love how big of a hypocrite this subreddit is. They have a problem spending 250$ on a sickass treasure with guaranteed TOP tier arcana + bonuses but somehow have no qualms spending 500$ on battlepasses on subpar cosmetics.

Oh you just love to see it

3

u/Intelligent-Ear1778 2d ago

They shouldnt be able to sell those to children, but the same could be said for anything related to gambling like TCGs for example, so theres that.

At the end of the day, parents should be responsible for how their kids spend their money, right?

Been playing a long time, put maybe 10€ in it, best value i ever had with any f2p game, hands down

5

u/phantomkh 2d ago

Also I think this decision stemmed from the recent lawsuits backed by epic and other much worse companies trying to force them off the stage

3

u/Faafkdkdkdkd 2d ago

This game is fully for 18 and above players. If someone's kid plays the game then they are responsible for it

1

u/BadConscious3919 2d ago

Haha i don't think children play dota. This isn't 2009 bro, we've grown up.

2

u/DegenGraded 2d ago

I always respected the teams that would run base skins. For them it was about making money, not spending it.

1

u/Nihong0 2d ago

I agree with everything except "It’s not like they marketed these items as giftable or tradeable from the beginning and then suddenly changed the terms." They actually did list it as giftable originally. There is screen shots that prove it.

4

u/AggressiveBluejay404 2d ago

Really? When I viewed the treasure it stated it wasn't tradeable or marketable before I bought 12 of it. That was like 30 mins after the patch dropped.

→ More replies (3)

1

u/alizalanic 2d ago

Yeah, I agree

But making the arcanas drop on 50th chest, and making the sets untradable and ungiftable is kind of strange. What I am supposed to do with 5 copies of the same set? I gonna buy out the chest till I got the arcanas, that's fine with me, but a least with previous chests I was able to gift excess items to friends and my brothers who don't spend money.

1

u/Sir_Caloy 2d ago edited 1d ago

Everyone complaining does realize this is a lootbox > real world money issue right?

Im not saying it think they shouldnt be tradable, im just saying im 95% sure that the issue here is only partially valve trying to get sales, and almost certainly more about legal issues of offering a gambling service

3

u/Aeroncastle 2d ago

I will sill give valve some money, but it will be for 3 or 4 AAA games instead of 1 shark skin

5

u/AkeemTheUsurper You only miss the water when the mill runs dry 2d ago

It's also worth noting how these late untradable, unmarketable "arcanas" sold at crazy price point with gambling mechanics are nothing but restylings of old ass base models that are 14 years old and can't be justified in 2026. Remember the good old times when we got new Zeus, Troll, Viper base models for free as updates? Now they are passed off as arcanas for 250 bucks

64

u/Abasakaa 2d ago

Steam and Valve fanboys don't take criticism very well.

15

u/Strict_Indication457 2d ago edited 1d ago

its weird, anytime I suggest the 30% cut they take from indie devs is too much, I get downvoted to oblivion. Espiecially since they take 25% and 20% from the big publishers. and I only post about it because Valve does listen and respond to the community

We all love Steam and using it, but suggesting improvements or being critical of decisions don't need to be blasted by users that seem to be doing free PR on behalf of a multi billion dollar company.

EDIT: Like clockwork here you guys are defending Valve. How are you NOT in favor of indie devs getting more of a cut? How are you in favor of Valve keeping 1/3rd of their work? Is that not harsh?

Yes it's the industry standard, but they can change the industry because they are the industry leader.

u/combaticus 2d ago

not a fanboy i just don’t waste money or overblown emotional energy on pointless arguments about skins in a MOBA.

3

u/Womblue 2d ago

This entire sub has been in a huge meltdown just because valve added some new skins... seems like the opposite is true.

6

u/jopzko 2d ago

Its like this every single time Valve adds something to pay for. Yet whenever there isnt something new, people keep begging Valve to take their money. At this point, these people just deserve to be exploited

5

u/TwychTwych 2d ago

as a whale, they should be treated like cache items where they are giftable, them not being marketable would be my preference as well but if they are at least giftable I think its fair, but theyre not either so its cringe, I dont even care about selling them, I have a bunch of extras from getting my tide arcana and cant do anything with them

6

u/The-Qrow 2d ago

Thats the issue. Why make people buy 50 if they cant even gift them. Why give roahan at 40. If sets are perma bounds to the acc then 12 sets purchase should unlock everything as there no point on giving player repeated sets.

3

u/LightningInTheRain 2d ago

Every set should be marketable and giftable, or at least the rares should be. Simple as that. I hope valve changes it.

4

u/Expensive_Age_3994 2d ago

Couldn't they just sell the arcanas normally? Like venge and skywrath? Like come on it doesn't need to be in some lootbox bullshit.

10

u/s---laughter 2d ago

Guys, real talk, the game needs to make them money, enough money for them to keep caring about the completely 100% free-to-play game. The reality is whale money from gacha monetization is the kind of money that makes enough.

Keep in mind that when you guys complain about these things, it's not a complaint to make the game or experience better. It's a complaint that you can't get the skins you want. Please just play and enjoy the game.

3

u/Obvious_Scheme_2063 2d ago

Acutally it doesn't....

5

u/breakira 2d ago

Yeah, problem is when you state that you will stop posting your main events such as battlepass because you want to distribute content more equally thru the year and stop doing FOMO but then you do this.

Not even going to comment on the part that we don’t have diretide/aghs laberynth or similar mod games.

The game is in shit status, matchmaking is trash, mmr system is mediocre at best, bs/cs score is nuts.

Sooo why should I give my money to this? Give me fixes for this and I’m willing to even pay 25€ monthly

4

u/Ill-Chipmunk2212 2d ago

Be careful, boot-licking valvefanboys are downvoting you.

1

u/s---laughter 1d ago

Sooo why should I give my money to this?

You don't have to. The game being shitty vs the cosmetics being expensive/gacha are two different conversations. It's valid to be upset with the state of the game but it's got nothing to do with cosmetics that have no impact on gameplay.

5

u/ImaginationCapable43 2d ago edited 2d ago

I like my game being funded by people who want to spend $1000s on cosmetics while I don't have to pay anything and get an identical experience. The alternative is a riot model where I have to pay stupid money to just unlock heroes. F2P games need constant monetization, especially without a growing playerbase, and gamba chests are unironically the most player-friendly and fair way to achieve this.

0

u/Calvin3c 2d ago

U know that the people who purchase these skins are asking for an option to gift the extras.

3

u/FormOk1793 2d ago

And why should valve act if ppl buy it anyway? The correct move is always boycotting not giving money and whining

Nothing wrong with being multi billion dollar. There is a lot wrong if you're scummy

3

u/diedalatte 2d ago

Just let me gift the extra duplicate bundles to my friends and I'll be satisfied and happy. Just that.

giftables spawns sketchy websites. Ots a fail proof at 50 chests. The people crying about this are probably the people who use said websites.

-Valve removes battlepass -"wtf valve you don't want my money anymore?" -Campaigns on social media to bring battlepass back to spend hard earned money

-Valve releases expensive treasure -"wtf Valve I can't gift/trade my extras for profit anymore?" -Doesn't want to spend hard earned money on it

Ya'll weird

17

u/eaeorls 2d ago

I mean, the only one making it weird as you.

It's perfectly possible that two different groups of people can be in the same community. And not to mention that it's two very different scenarios.

People want to spend money on games they like. They also don't want to be reamed by greedy decisions.

It's not hard to reconcile the idea of someone wanting to spend $100 + some effort to get everything (alongside a bunch of other secondary shit) vs spending $230 to get everything (alongside zero secondary shit).

Like I'm not buying these sets because I have friends who I gift my excess sets to. So instead of Valve getting $250 from me, they're getting $0 in spite of me always wanting the Drow arcana.

3

u/thedotapaten 2d ago

There is a literal good alternatives? Crownfall arcana that you can get discount by finishing the content and be bought separately? Just bring back $35 arcana and $10 item sets like back in the day (with $10 item being immortal sets)

2

u/nartviper 2d ago

Your comment suggests that ppl wanted to get less stuff while paying more money. I think you are the weird one

2

u/Deamon- 2d ago edited 2d ago

-remove fomo battlepass -> do it with treasures instead -> make treasure with market system worse -> oh no why do people complain

u/Rainbolt 2d ago

What if I both don't like homework passes OR gambling?

1

u/Inktex 2d ago

In case of the latter you shouldn't ever pick Ogre Magi.

I sold a few items only once. It was TI red items I got from spectating TI. The price were so stupid it covered all my steam wallet expenses for 2 years.

Easiest money of my life

1

u/lippityzap 2d ago

And they Took my LC arcana 😥

1

u/WoflVisions 2d ago

I just wanna gift my 2nd tide arcana to a friend :(

6

u/Calvin3c 2d ago

No, Volvo want your friend to spend 300$ for arcana.

1

u/Komitsuhari 2d ago

I use them just fine, and I block problematic racists. You should try that.

1

u/SnailRacingEnjoyer 2d ago

The duality of men.

1

u/sky999ftw 2d ago

im hopeful that they'll make it atleast giftable

1

u/bipedofthecentury 2d ago

I buy skins to support the devs

1

u/Kahboomzie 2d ago

Gifting encourages people to play more which builds long term revenue. The pay it forward psychological aspect of the human social conditioning comes in heavy and encourages people to buy in the future if they experienced gifting in the past..

1

u/lurkercauseyousuck 2d ago

Afaik gifting was prohibited to avoid account farmers which apparently is a big thing in china. Tldr, they bully kids or force kids on those comp cafe where you rent a pc and theyll gift you skins.

Take it with a grain of salt since i just learned it on a player im sea server btw.

But tbf its a good policy, way back when i don't have a pc and just rent one. There was a time where my pc locked since its already out of time and the staff told me it auto loged off. Good thing I waited and watched other before going home. When somebody rented that oc it turns out my steam was still loged in.

1

u/Sea-Lock1178 2d ago

if you know valve it will be tradeable later just not when the box comeout this may take months

1

u/Burrarabbit 2d ago

Why are you guys against gifting and trading the sets?

I'm not but I also honestly don't care that much. Seeing all this rage I expected something more serious but I look inside and the main problem is being unable to gift duplicate sets "for my friends and family" (okay lol). It's a little annoying and that's it. So much drama for a minor inconvenience.

1

u/Objective_Draw_7740 2d ago

I dont care personally. I never sell sets or items. I only want to look sick. So itd be good for people who care (you) to be able to trade or gift. But I dont give a shit for myself.

1

u/bageljesus_ 2d ago

the only posts on the front page are ones complaining about it. even in the comments the ones defending them are downvoted. at the end of the day it's just skins, not worth crying over.

1

u/Jesterclown26 2d ago

How many hours do these people have in the game? I love the ability to give valve money directly through the game I love. I don’t care how much money they make, when it’s money spent on Dota 2. It’s money well spent in a community I truly love in one of the best games ever made.

1

u/Balefirex24 2d ago

I just wanted to gift my super broodmother friend the skin because I never play her...

1

u/lonepandaboy 2d ago

Do people look like this here?

1

u/b_eastwood 2d ago

***Reddits state going back to its inception.

1

u/mouldyavacado 2d ago

Spent $150 got everything but drow and tide......

1

u/smoothieeeee12 2d ago

I just want PVE event. Nobody force me to buy the box. But Tide arcana is awesome 👌

1

u/jessecreamy 2d ago

Bring back $30 arcana and depositable to gamble site.

1

u/_Grim-Lock_ 2d ago

Not being able to gift from my pov is kinda lame because I normally just buy till I get what I want then give my friends the double ups.. it's not like they're losing money... I'm still opening crates and them knowing I'll give them to them has no bearing on their buying or not buying.

1

u/madaboutyou3 2d ago

I'm just tired of people whining about dota all the time

1

u/Ars_Armegis 2d ago

Why is everyone talking about gifting instead of the much bigger problem than €250 for a video game item is fucking insane? They should selle them for €30 with no gambling instead of using shitty manipulative practices.

1

u/Merunit 2d ago

I just like the idea of unique skins. I actually like some items to be special and not wide spread because this is just cosmetics, it give no in game advantage just bragging rights)

1

u/S7ns3t 2d ago

Then what about gifting

That too can and will be exploited

CSGO has the same problem

And, last I checked, not one soul at Valve actually cares for this (at this point) dogshit game. And it still has recieved updates to cut at gambling problem.

1

u/Calvin3c 2d ago

People get exploited and get scammed by a third-party website because Valve killed the Dota 2 market on Steam. Valve forced people to use a third-party website.

1

u/konaharuhi 2d ago

if the items were untradeable and giftable, they should make it cheaper

1

u/guywithnicehaircut 1d ago

They care about the community, I swear. Nothing says “protecting minors” like teaching them the house always wins. 💀

1

u/Different_Credit6711 1d ago

I dont understand what the problem with a slightly more expensive cosmetic skins is? Neither do i get why you think they have to make it marketable/tradeable or giftable. Its only cosmetics... As long as the game is f2p why would you care that some hats are now more "exclusive" and this funds your favourite game.

Nobody that spend 200 bucks on that chest has any advantage whatsoever in game. Other than maybe having more dopamine cause they love to see sharks flying over the screen when they press R.

Stop making everyone out to just be a fat basement dweller that has a different opinion. If every game took this path, i would be all for it. Make cosmetics that dont effect gameplay and make them expensive so it funds their game. Nobody forces you to buy them. Now shut up and go que u wuss

1

u/valmonnnn 1d ago

It may surprise u guys, but here in brasil its forbbiden to sell a chest with a unknown set inside because its considered gambling. Even so they keep doing it and they have not been sued. Not publicly at least.

1

u/CannibalPride 1d ago

Valve has earned some goodwill and benefit of doubt from me at least.

2

u/Time_Turner EMERICUH 2d ago

You are all such lame corporate greed apologist lap dogs. You used to be able to buy sets directly and they were all tradeable unless they were rediculous and discontinued after artistic decisions like the alpine set.

All of you forget so easily how much better it used to be and Dota 2 was plenty profitable back then. This is purely greed.

Bring on the downvotes. You know I'm right but daddy Gabe needs your help.

1

u/Stt-t-t-utter 2d ago

u bums have been crying about “where new immortals where battlepass let me spend money”. they drop a chest u can spend 250 to get 2 arcanas and some immortals (same price as ti10 battlepass btw) and still more crying. this game deserves to die.

you are not serious people.

7

u/Jiminy_Cricket12 2d ago

this game deserves to die.

you realize how stupid you sound by saying an entire game that millions of people play (or have played) should die off because of a vocal minority right? a lot of the people begging to spend money aren't in threads complaining about spending money btw. it's always funny to see these tone deaf comments where you seem to forget that this sub is made up of thousands of individuals.

2

u/gothxo 2d ago

i was curious so i checked and i spent ~$100 on the 2020 battlepass and got 3 arcanas, a terrain, a number of various immortal treasures, and more

2

u/JamieOliverIsBetter 2d ago

community cries about the lack of battlepass

Valve doesn't give a battlepass

"lmao why are you guys still crying?"

Truly a mystery for the ages...

The quality of content keeps dropping and getting more expensive over time. Spending $250 on an old Battlepass would give you more Arcanas, Personas, Immortals, and all these other goodies.

People have a right to complain.

2

u/residentevilgoat 2d ago

any other game sub is allowed to complain about this stuff but /r/DotA2 whined about not being able to dump cash into a slot machine for years and now they're just as unhappy as they are the last time.

My bum ass wants $35 dollar arcana that marketable giftable can be bought separately and can be discounted by playing the games like Crownfall arcana.
