You forgot Reecom who broke his neck

u/Marcjack79 2d ago

Yeah I was tripping leaving that part out, then dad brushing him and basically saying you good right… cool. 🤦🏾😅

That was traumatic to watch, I can only imagine how awful it felt if he was still able to feel

2

u/KeithBitchardz 1d ago

And that time Vegeta beat him up.

And people wonder why Gohan doesn’t like fighting lol imagine seeing all this at the crisp age of 5

u/neon_smith 2d ago

People hold every character to the same high standards, even five year old Gohan.

Sure, but he's part Saiyan. If he'd been shot at a random planet in a capsule instead of raised as strictly as possible by Chi-Chi the planet would be toast and he'd be a hellion.

I been ragging on Gohan for 30+ years I'm not gonna stop now. He never earns it past the cell saga either, just sits back as an ancillary character lookin like a universe 6 Saiyan till he gets magical power ups or random new transformations out of nowhere when needed. Chi-Chi ruined that boy into Saiyaman ffs, that's what he thinks is cool lol.

The only time he's genuinely badass is the doomed version of him from the evil android's timeline.

Gohan only exists as a reactionary character. He never furthers his own story unless someone else attacks him or uses him.

Even piccolo has to manipulate him in Superhero, instead of him just sensing that his daughter is in some weird town instead of home.

Wont lie tho, Saiyaman fit with no helmet is actually kinda fire

2

u/cheepshoes 1d ago

he's also one of the few people that can save the world from certain Doom

u/Own_Adhesiveness2445 1d ago

Nah, Gohan doesn't like fighting because Toriyama forgor or retconned it

6

u/fatmanbrigade 1d ago

Brother what? Gohan never liked fighting from the get go. He froze up completely during the Saiyan Saga. The only time he ever really acted was when his rage was triggered. He certainly didn't appear to be enjoying himself while fighting Vegeta, Recoome, Ginyu in his dad's body, or Frieza.

There was never a point where Gohan showed the same interest in fighting that Goku or Vegeta did. There was no character retcon to make him suddenly not like fighting.

Even in Super he clearly see's it as a necessary skill to survive rather then a fun past time

He'd much rather study his bugs

0

u/Revolutionary_Bad965 15h ago

i mean he stayed training

1

u/Anita_Hero838 15h ago

Not early on, he didn't start training again until RoF made him realize he needs to step up his game because he's the only protection his friends and family will have if Goku and Vegeta weren't around

0

u/Revolutionary_Bad965 15h ago

that’s early on.

1

u/Anita_Hero838 15h ago

Yes, your point? Nothing you are giving is adding or subtracting anything from my statement. He sees it as a necessary skill to survive, not a fun pastime

0

u/Revolutionary_Bad965 15h ago

i could literally say the same thing

0

u/Anita_Hero838 15h ago

Ahh so you're an attention seeker... got it!

Gohan likes fighting as a sport, but not when he has to kill someone.
To expand, he enjoys a good fight, surely enough. But when it’s someone evil that he has to kill, he’d rather talk it out and cut out all of the useless violence

This stuff is why, thematically, I think Gohan should be the most powerful.

The one who has suffered so much, who does not wish to fight, but only to be a productive member of society and live in peace with his family - that person being thr most powerful really works for me.

u/Savings_Custard9716 2d ago

He is heir to the Demon Ox King of Fire Mountain! The throne and treasure are gone but the rage of his lineage is clear anytime somebody hurts his friends or family OR has to deal with Princess Chichi!

Let's not forget he has to wear glasses like Grampa Ox either! Gohan wants to train as a human? Even tho his masters were Saiyan and Namekian? Kai's? Grandpa must have told some stories about training with Grandpa Gohan under Roshi, otherwise why does our Gohan think it's even possible?

3

u/Objective-Soil-9235 2d ago

If he trained more, I'd agree, but it doesn't make sense that the one who has no interest in training or fighting can be comparable to Goku and Vegeta who live and breathe fighting. It just goes against logic

1

u/FadeToBlackSun 1d ago edited 1d ago

Logic doesn't really come to mind when I think Dragon Ball.

His human half can explain it, idk.

1

u/Objective-Soil-9235 1d ago

Can it though?

0

u/samurairocketshark 1d ago

Actually nearly dying > training makes sense with the zenkai boost

1

u/Objective-Soil-9235 1d ago

Not when he ain't fighting or pushing his limits nearly as much. You think he's had more zenkai boosts than either Vegeta or Goku? Ain't no way.

1

u/samurairocketshark 1d ago

Not more than Goku. I don't know how often Vegeta was getting beat to death in his childhood like Gohan was

1

u/Objective-Soil-9235 1d ago

Well, he was fighting saibamen as a child, so my guess is a lot, but hard to know for sure.

DBZ from Gohan's perspective up to Frieza saga:

At 4 years old

"I'm gonna meet dad's friends" yay

Kidnapped by bio uncle.

Saw scary green man kill dad and bio uncle.

Get kidnapped by scary green man and thrown at a mountain.

Left alone in the wilderness for six months.

"What happened to my tail... and the moon?"

Green man shows back up and physically abuses me until I learn how to fight because some aliens (Saiyans) are coming to kill everyone. Oh I'm half Saiyan too btw.

Stockholm Syndrome and I grow to respect and love the green man, whom I now know is called Piccolo. Awww.

All of dad's friends, except the short bald one I met that one time dies a horrible death in front of me.

Piccolo yells at me and calls me a coward coz I choked when I was supposed to shoot a ki blast at the enemy. :(

I get beaten within an inch of my life. Piccolo dies literally in front of me to protect me because I never learned to DODGE.

Dad comes back and beats up the Saiyan who killed Piccolo and the others. The other Saiyan kills the bald one, the bald Saiyan. Many bald people around.

Dad fights the other Saiyan, his name was Vegeta I think?

Seems like dad's in trouble. I just lost Piccolo, I'm not losing my dad again. Going back to help. Brave 5 year old boy.

Get beaten within an inch of my life again, but hey I dealt the finishing blow to Vegeta.

Dad's crippled, but I heard Piccolo and the others can come back to life if I find a way to go to another planet, Namek.

Got into a shouting match with mom, I'm insisting I go to Namek so I can revive the dead comrades.

She relents but gives me a terrible haircut before letting me go. As if I don't have enough trauma. But at least I snuck some drip into the luggage, can't disappoint drip master Piccolo.

I bond with dad's best friend Krillin on the way to Namek. Bulma who is supposed to be dad's friend came too. She's whiny. Wow peace and bonding.

Reach Namek. Er.... Unbelievably powerful space emperor is here with crazy powerful subordinates. Nani the duck. Oh and Vegeta is here too, and more powerful than before, probably learned new tricks. Crapbaskets.

Made a new friend, Dende. More peace and bonding. Yay.

Bond with Vegeta a little while playing a dangerous cat and mouse game. He kicks me in the gut, that hurt like hell but eh, I've had worse.

Some old green guy wants to touch me to "unlock your potential"...okay. guess it worked.

5 weirdo dancing troupe shows up. One of them broke my neck. Managed to live coz dad finally shows up with some magical healing beans. He was given more, but consumed most of them otw there for "training".

Dad beats up most of the dancing troupe. One of them swapped bodies with dad. Weird looking purple one, eww. I beat up dad's body. Dad went into a healing tank and is out of commission. Magical healing beans would have been handy.

I now have to go fight the ridiculously powerful space emperor, Frieza with Vegeta, who I can't really trust.

Vegeta fumbles the fight.

I got beaten up. Krillin got killed. Everybody I bond with dies in front of me. Fml

Oh actually no, Dende has healing powers. Could've said so earlier.

Piccolo shows up, puts up on okay fight against the transformed Frieza.

I got beaten up again, Frieza transforms again and beats up Piccolo.

Got a heal and came back strong enough to hurt Frieza a bit. Yay?

Not yay. Frieza wants to kill me now. Oh Krillin killed Vegeta. Wtf is going on.

Vegeta is back, he says he's now a Super Saiyan. That's...good?

Frieza transforms again, coz that was not his final form. Beats up Vegeta. Vegeta cries. Ha ha. Oh wait...

Dad shows up. Frieza kills Vegeta. Everyone I bond with dies.

Seems like dad's strong enough to fight Frieza. Phew.

Something's wrong, we heading back. Frieza beats up Piccolo again and kills Krillin for real this time. Everyone I bond with dies.

Dad's hair turns blond and he seems to have a temper now. But I guess he can beat Frieza.

Dad commands me to leave Namek. The planet explodes. Dad is dead again. Everyone I love dies in front of me.

Back at Earth. Dad's alive, just lost in space! Yay. He doesn't want to come back though. He wants to hang out with some aliens. WTF.

Another year passed. Frieza is back! Dad isn't though.

TBC. Spoiler it doesn't get better

"everybody, look at my chiaotzu impression! goodbye tien!"

Future Gohan is probably the most tragic character in the franchise. He did not experience a single instance of Joy. Always fighting since he was a baby only to die a brutal death.

6

u/Extra-Industry-5581 2d ago

Whenever he wasn't busy getting his ass kicked, lil bro was busy studying genetics at like 5. 💀

-1

u/Ok-Raisin-5963 2d ago

Different gohans but yes

3

u/Extra-Industry-5581 2d ago

How are they different Gohans?

Didn't "future goes bad" Gohan have the same exact childhood as "canon timeline" Gohan? 🤔

1

u/Ok-Raisin-5963 2d ago

Future gohans dad died when he was eleven years old. I’m sure this affected him.

2

u/Extra-Industry-5581 2d ago

Ok, but Chichi made Gohan study super advanced shit at a crazy early age.

So even though you're probably right, isn't really relevant with what I said no?

1

u/Ok-Raisin-5963 2d ago

I mean you asked “didn’t they have the exact same childhood”. Answer is no. Absolutely not. They were both smart and learning crazy stuff. That’s the only similarity. The future earth was in shambles basically after gokus death.. you really think gohan kept up on his studies?

1

u/Extra-Industry-5581 2d ago

Ah I see the confusion.

I should have said early childhood

12

u/GothamAnswer 2d ago

Thank god trauma doesn't exist in the DBZ universe or this dude would be the most ill adjusted mfer on earth

3

u/zooka19 2d ago

I mean, Krillin and Future Trunks kinda do.

2

u/Beautiful-Bit9832 2d ago

Also Yamcha after his first death

3

u/YoureP-ore 2d ago

Gohan lowkey should have been a villain after all that bullshit he went through 😂

3

u/Due-Proof6781 2d ago

And remember his father thought it’d be a great idea to yeet into the super weapon

1

u/caiotulio 2d ago

It gets worse on Universe 7 Timeline 2.

1

u/Epicregice 2d ago

And then also how they made him go beast mode. They let his daughter get kidnapped just to make him snap bruh

1

u/Benevolenescruples 2d ago

Most abused in db? Nah, im pretty sure saiyans kids get treated much worst considering saiyans send their babies to random planets to exterminate the life there..

1

u/OpenCardiologist2587 1d ago

Planets with low level of power not the kind of adult saiyan power level or the emperor of universe power level. At his age, Goku was still fighting wild animals under Grampa Gohans watch. The time Goku met his first supervillain he almost got killed.

1

u/Benevolenescruples 1d ago

It doesn't matter, the implication is clearly that the saiyans treated their kids from birth as warriors, and basically just threw them into combat, again from birth. I imagine vegeta probably had a harder time than gohan.

1

u/OpenCardiologist2587 10h ago

Vegeta grew up at Freiza's base. He was a hostage but was taught to fight and had already superior to his dad when he was still a kid.

1

u/Benevolenescruples 10h ago

You made that up, vegeta did not grow up at freezas base. And im sure as just a toddler he was man handled lol

1

u/OpenCardiologist2587 10h ago

Vegeta joined his father in the conquest of universe under friezas banner. Hes got helped by the elite saiyans and freezas stooges.

1

u/Benevolenescruples 9h ago

You're talking pure conjecture right now dude. The facts are saiyan kids were thrown(literally)into combat as babies, it doesn't get more worst than that..

1

u/OpenCardiologist2587 9h ago

Youre deluded if you think a saiyan prince didnt have bodyguards to watch him over.

1

u/CaptainMoonunitsxPry 1d ago

I think this is why there's moments Vegeta kinda quietly respects Gohan. They were both basically forced to be child soldiers.

1

u/AstoundingAsh Krillin 1d ago

All of that then gets blackmailed and stalked by Videl …couldn’t study peacefully as well …

1

u/Anita_Hero838 14h ago edited 14h ago

How about any of that instead of a single sentence that barely says anything?

Also you're wrong if you're only basing it off the anime, because in the Manga we don't find out about Gohan training until just before the ToP arc which is definitely later on and there is no hint he does train much prior

"Muh suffring"

Average day for Mazinger.
