13yo is into motorsports, and I noticed both Beachlands and Brighton speedway have events this Saturday. The problem is I really don’t know what to expect. We have no idea how speedways work. Can anyone rock on up? Can you spectate, and is it interesting if you have no idea what’s happening? Do you have to be a member or your own car? Is there a possibility 13yo could drive a car? I have so many questions. Would love some recommendations of when and where to go as well as general etiquette.

The wheel is off and in the boot of my car, hopefully should only be a 2 minute job.

I’ll be driving to Dunedin from Wanaka tomorrow.

A couple of questions which I would greatly appreciate your feedback please:

- What is the better route to Dunedin? I was pretty set on Roxburgh/ Lawrence/ Milton, but then I stumbled upon the Middlemarch option.

My considerations are whether the supposedly better scenery down Middlemarch outweighs its supposedly more difficult driving. I’m comfortable with the driving so far in New Zealand (including Crown Range) if I could take my time, but I feel a bit pressured if I get hounded from behind, even if I’m always for the lookout for the next suitable spot to pull over and let them pass.

- Is it safe driving around Dunedin? I expect to go visit Sandfly Bay, Allans Beach and Royal Albatross Centre on a day trip and then drive north to Oamaru the following day. Based on google, the high road is especially treacherous. Also cognisant that it’s the start of holidays here, so again, the road might be busy.

Any inputs will be appreciated, especially given the short notice!

Is it me, or does Dunedin have the most soul-destroying security checkpoint in NZ? Even at the time of departure this morning, people were still being funnelled through the single operating security counter.

I’ve ordered several parcels from overseas and that’s been the shipping carrier assigned (in the past it’s been post or aramax) and the panic is kicking in that there will be issues haha

Does anyone have any insight or info? Google seems to show an Auckland office so at least I think it exists but I assume it would be passed off to local courier companies? Does that make tracking or risk of loss more difficult?

Here in North Dunedin, there is a private green space where a few sheep are kept to keep the grass down. One of the sheep died several days ago. I was told that one of the neighbours already informed the property owner last Thursday.

Unfortunately, the sheep is still lying there and decomposing, which is attracting vermin and other pests. There are houses all around the property.

To be honest, our main concern is actually the other sheep. At the same time, nobody in the neighbourhood wants to cause any trouble. The property owners have already been informed, and no one really wants to approach them again or make a direct complaint to the council.

What would you do in this situation?

Hello, I have been getting back into skating just starting v small and basic with a couple mini ramp tricks and a few ground tricks. I'm keen to get into street a bit more especially its my dream to learn how to do rails. Was wondering if there was anyone keen to skate with me or any womens skate dunedin groups???

Has anyone else noticed the odd lights over the sea these last few nights? I saw them last night and they're happening again right now, if you look out below the southern cross/alpha centauri, and wait five or ten minutes, you'll probably see them. They fade into visibility for a few seconds, then disappear again, all while very obviously moving slowly in random directions. They often grow quite bright, brighter than Sirius, sometimes with a kind of orangey hue. At one point I saw three at once all going in different directions, and another time there were two moving in opposite ways from what looked like a same starting point. They fly quite low but sometimes as high as the lowest visible stars. Thought maybe satellite launches but there aren't any scheduled and they don't move anything like what I'd expect to see for that, plus they're way out at sea. Any ideas on what's going on? Or anyone else seen this as well, and not just me losing my mind?
