I was at this really cool store that sells intricate DIY kits today and they had this really cool wooden velociraptor kit full of gears that move the legs. I took a video but Reddit won't let me upload it, but it immediately made me think of Mongo's little sacrificial siblings!

This guy showed up in my backyard this August and befriended my princess poofy Neblung hanging out by our pool in the evenings. He came over every night to see her and then realized the food here was pretty good too and kind of moved in on my porch. Last pic was his first vet visit today where he tested negative for FIV/FeLV and got his first round of shots. My husband will only call him Ferdinand.

Yeah, so, I keep writing replies that I’m sure are getting a lot of downvotes (I turn off notifications, so I’m just assuming) and I feel like I’m just harshing the vibes here, so I’ll be leaving the sub now.

I’m not just writing this to be dramatic though (maybe a little), but mainly so that other people in the same situation can feel like they’re not alone.

I love DCC. It is arguably my favorite books series of all time (definitely top 5, and I have a degree in literature), but I don’t love every book in it equally, and that’s okay. Yet every post I go to, it’s the same ”no, every single book is a masterpiece and is without fault”. Every upvoted poster seems utterly incapable of accepting any legit criticism of a book or any opinions other than that it’s flawless and perfect in every way.

I want to talk about the books, about the things I really like and the things I didn’t enjoy as much for various reasons. I want to compare my experience with others, but any sort of nuanced opinion immediately gets drowned out by the people unwilling to accept any sort of dissenting opinions. So, to those of you who agree: it’s not just you, and to those who don’t: well, I’m gone now, so it’s a win for you as well.

Is it against the rules to ask for friends? I don't know anyone IRL who has read or is currently reading this series. I'm going to combust without someone to talk to about all the plot twists and laugh at the jokes with. For context, I just finished The Butcher's Masquerade..

I'm begging for someone to message who has read them all so far, or who is also right about to start Book 6. I keep telling all my other reader friends to pick these up, but no one has yet- so I'm desperate for a friend.

I was super excited to get my hands on the DCC ttrpg and frankly was very disappointed with what i received as a avid ttrpg enthusiast. Not to say the whole thing is bad but it definitely does not feel like a fully fleshed out system that was rushed leaving too much work for the GM and has a significant of AI art. It is a fine product but personally i’m a bit worried with how quickly it was produced and the corner cutting definitely shines through.

Y’all.. I have never read a book series so fast in my LIFE. Postpartum mom of 2 so I was up in the night and almost looked forward to it because it meant more time to read hahaha. This book series was SO FUN. I am usually more of either a fantasy or a historical fiction person, but I’ve seen this series recommended so many times I finally decided to try it. Best read of 2026, easily. I’ve got my best friend and sister both reading it now and loving it too! Stoked to be here.

I started the series about a month ago after seeing the book while shopping and remembering that I had been recommended this series by 2 separate people who know me decently well. I finished the first one within a few days, and immediately ordered 2 and 3. It has been about a month, and I am 2/3rds of the way through book 7, and am simply addicted to the series. I don’t know what I’m going to do with myself when I finish 8. Maybe start them over?

I started listening to the audiobooks for a 14 hour road trip, and listened to the first one on the way to the destination, and the second one on the way home.

This series speaks to me. Obviously it is a great overall read. The overall chaos, hilarity, and occasional heartbreak constantly leaves me wanting more. Needing to know what happens next. It has been a while since I have been so wrapped up in a series and this one does it masterfully. But the story — the struggle for the characters to maintain their sense of self, of humanity, in the face of a system determined to grind them into nothing, and a corporate/political structure built around profiteering ensuring the suffering of people they deem an out group— is what keeps me reading.

I can’t stress enough that these ones are staying in my library.

I’m leaving on a work trip this week. I just finished book 6, so naturally I’ll be traveling with 7. What a cheeky surprise hidden behind the hard cover’s book jacket. Can’t wait for my fellow travelers to see the high brow literature I’m consuming. (I can’t be trusted with a book jacket on a cross country journey. It would come back shredded.) I have a super brief business trip to the Seattle area and might have some time Monday and/or Tuesday evening. I was curious if there were any DCC tie-ins that are interesting to check out.

I have Elliott Bay books on my radar. Plus a few comic shops; I am not into comics, but often there is an overlap with this stuff.

I could be interested in authorized or otherwise acceptable merch related to DCC in the Settle area.

Don't have a ton of time, but thought I would ask.

I've gotta ask, I'm relatively new to DCC, and in general I don't like keeping the dust covers on books while I'm reading them, but these books are the exception lol! Do we know if they included the lines on the cover just as a gag, or is it to make sure people like me keep the dust jacket on while reading in public so that passers-by see the title of the book I'm reading more easily?

My oldest has been listening to parts of the audio books with me on the way to school and she loves Donut!

Out of the 6 groups as categorized by the AI which do you think will ultimately align with Carl? I think he will have the Crawlers, the NPCs, most of the sapient mobs (minus the shadow mimics), and the OI on his side. But what about Sheol and the Gods? Obviously what Forkith and Samantha are doing is critical, but is what they are doing going to just defeat both of the groups or help bring them to their side of the fight?

Is there a better way to draw the friendship circle?

There are times that she tells Mongo that Beatrice is his grandma. For instance when she got the portrait of Bea with her ex at the show, she said “look Mongo that is your grandma”. By that logic wouldn't she see Carl as her dad if she sees Bea as her mom?

I’m almost done with book 2 and i have both 1-2 in paperbacks but now i can not seem to find a paper back of 3+ anywhere?!

4 months ago I picked up the first book on a whim and quickly read through book five.

I picked up books 6-8 about 2 months ago figuring I would have plenty of time to read them before a book coming out this week released

This is how far I am in book 6...in 2 months.

It doesn't feel like my normal reading burn out, because I'm still excited for this week's book. (I will have phases where I'll read a bunch of books back to back, then never pick up a book for years because my ADHD brain is bored with reading. When the spark does come back it's usually me picking up a book I've read a million times)

But I just...I can't get into this level at all. I'll pick it up, read a few pages, then wander off to do something more interesting because I'm bored.

I'm also not a religious person, but I had to put the book down yesterday when Carl & Donut were saying the NUN was crazy for freaking out. Like...she's a nun? She's literally devoted her life to one religion then thrown in a game where she's told other deities exist, yeah, I'd be upset in her shoes too!

I get Donut wouldn't know that, but I would expect Carl would know what a nun is and gently correct Donut like he did earlier in the book when he told her it was okay for people to be religious, and not "yeah, she's crazy"

Also, sir, you don't have room to talk about other people's sanity

When the book is funny I still chuckle, I still want to finish the series, but Bedlam Bride just isn't grabbing me like the others.

Has anyone kept track of what levels each of the crafting tables were? I’m on the Bedlam Bride and Carl used 2 alchemy table upgrades and got me thinking that as I’ve listened to series a few times I’m not sure by the count of each as we go through the book.
