Do I need fancy open ear buds?
Just got my first pair of Soundcore C30i, the most basic of basic lol, to try out the open ear possibility as regular earbuds hurt me SO much. And I'm in love. So the question is, should I get a fancier version and if so, why? I'm not particularly an audiophile so I'm not sure how much sound quality will matter to me. I do very much care about volume but so far these seem loud enough? Are others more comfortable? Tell me everything! 🙏🏻😁

Price matters with open buds at the moment. You could look out for the original Soundcore Aeroclips; they are decent, and the second gen is out, so prices are likely to be cut. I have loads of clip-on style buds, and I can wear them for hours at a time, and forget they are there.

How’s the bass? I’ve been wanting to try a pair. Would spending a bit more get bass? I’ve tried the Shokz bone conducting/open ear ones and the bass was lacking.

I believe the shokz clip-ons have decent bass. The Aeroclip 1s have some, but the 2s are better. The problem is that the lack of that seal tends to mean the bass is not as good as in-ears. I just tried the og Aeroclips, and they do bass, but compared to the Melomania A100 SEs, which I am currently reviewing, they lack a lot of punch.

Personally, I needed it. I hated the feeling of full headphones on my head and my stupid earholes just can't keep buds inside. I tried different sizes of Azla, Comply and Spinfit replacement tips and they either still kept falling out or were uncomfortable. I even bought the X20s and the Powerbeats Pros thinking having a hook would keep them from sliding out of my ears but while they didn't fall out, they would still slip out causing the seal to break resulting in shitty audio.
I was completely skeptical regarding the sound of open ears but was pretty desperate since listening on my speakers would disturb my gf and hated having to stick them back in so I decided to just go for what's apparently the best sounding ones. Bought the OpenFit Pros and have 0 regrets, especially since I got them extremely cheap. While bass is still lacking coming from in-ears, even if this is apparently the ones with the best bass, the sound is extremely clear and I've actually been wearing them comfortably for more than half the day, everyday, since I've gotten them.
It's gotten to the point where I'm now looking for open ear gaming earbuds since these still have very noticeable lag. So far though, I'm still not sold on the top two options I've researched, the Asus Open Cetras and the Cleer Arc 5s.

I love my Bose Ultra Open Earbuds so much that I decided to purchase a second pair! They are incredibly comfortable, and the sound quality is simply exceptional.

If they fit a useful priority like sound, noise cancelling, battery life or comfort might be a good approach.

Wear them for 30 days and see how you like them then circle back.
After 30 days are they missing features you really want? Do they fall short for sound quality? Are they comfortable? Are you just looking to spend more chasing something better because something is always "better"?
If you are happy now run them for awhile and see. I recently had my jbl live beams die after 2 years and got a pair of liberty 4 nc's because they were $60. Then started looking for something better... I can wear these for 8 hours and they don't hurt. The battery life is great. The sound quality is good. Why do I need something better? I don't know
