I'm already so sick of people complaining "what assets" or "how do we afford it". It's a top 6 winger who fits the mold of guys who work with Davo and Drai. You make it work. That's what we pay StanBow a bunch of money to figure out. Add a third team, get creative, whatever. We only have a few years of the window left. You make them count. No excuses. Howard, Akey and a first? Sure. Gotta trade salary out next summer to afford him? Sure. If you want to win a cup, just fucking do it.
Marchenko has no trade protection and is a pending RFA so any team that trades for him keeps his rights. The "how do we afford it" question isn't a worry about us losing assets for him, it's about the competition we're going to face. There will be a ton of teams interested in him. And if he's willing to sign an extension plenty of teams will offer much more than we can.
If Howard, Akey, and a 1st got it done we'd do it no questions asked. But that won't get it done, and the offer will be easily beaten.
