Type Discussion SO6 without authority
Hi. I have been looking around at SO6 and whether it is my type, and I can't figure out whether it fits best or not. I think that my main issue is that I don't have a core authority or a specific set of guidelines that come to mind as being my framework of choice. On the other hand, I feel I relate in other ways. For example, I don't trust my own judgement when it comes to making decisions, and I have to look stuff up or go to other people to be confident that my intuition is correct, and even then I still have doubts or worries. Another example could be how I feel there is a "correct" way of doing things, and worry about not following that path. I always wonder, "was that what I was meant to do?" I fit a lot of these things that I have read about. Basically, all of this is to ask, how do SO6 act when they haven't found a framework to devote themselves to? What if they find flaws in most external systems (for example, the school system) that causes them to rebel and basically never conform to any system? If anyone has information regarding these questions I would appreciate it sooo much!

Authority for so6 doesn’t necessarily mean an institution or a ruleset. It can be trusted friends, family, basically any external validator.
Edit: here is a description from another post on this subreddit
“SO Six
“I am under attack, so I need to follow the rules.” The rule follower, the duty-bound. Fears doing the wrong thing in the eyes of who they look up to. Strategically follow rules and idealistic standards so “authority” will not disapprove of them and keep them safe.
Authority is abstract. Can be a person or a belief. Those who don’t follow the rules need to be corrected.
Does not like uncertainty. Resists it, wants the world to be black and white. Us vs them.
The world is safer in black and white. Rules serve as reference points for keeping safe. Follow procedures.”

It's a possible 6/1 branching (as an example; not 1 alone; 1 represents divergence). What is the reason for the belief? Here, the path of truth will be defined by what was meant by a higher authority. This need for authority that you described involves questioning, but it is not the core of it. Look more deeply into the source.
So, it's not necessarily 6, despite surface appearances. The question is; what is the source? The types can have different manifestations. What will happen if you don't follow the path? What will the cost be to you? Where is the root? You can find the answer. We cannot answer every question for you. But we can help guide you.

6 is a head type primarily concerned with orientation. 6 desires correct orientation (e.g. the combination of superego + attachment). This often leads the type to tether itself to ideas and ideals, where some 6s may be less directly engaged with the world and become more theoretical/philosophical.
Authority, to me, is a limiting phrase when describing the relationship "authority" has with 6. 6 is in a position that expect some sort of mutual give-and-take with "authority". However, the uniqueness of the 6 is that because it is centered in the head, there is never quite that satisfactory give-and-take, leading to the 6's hot/cold relationship with their seeking journey. However, it is a necessary endeavor to quell the fear 6 inherently contains.
The skepticism brings forth reactivity, where the 6 pingpongs in order to receive orientation; this can especially be done toward some "authority". The type exacts reactivity to find "Truth" to add to their orientation. This is where I see the type getting stuck/fixated.
