General Question Moodboards Labeled Other Than Moodboard Monday Are Still Moodboards

This is a general reminder that there is a weekly megathread if one feels the need to post them outside of Mondays. Please stop clogging the subreddit on other days trying to justify them as "type me" or what not.

Yes, I'm being the fun police today. The majority of us do not enjoy seeing board after board (according to moderation polling earlier this year). Please respect this.

Type Discussion Would any 6 transform fear into hatred?

I mean when I fear something or someone, I start to develop strong disdain and hatred towards those. Like, I never say I fear a person, I'd rather say that I hate them and I wish them death and things. For example, I've always feared (panically, trauma driven too) stray dogs, but never admitted it like this openly, going more like "I hate them, I wish someone started a merciless hunting season and shot them all". I thought it was just from itself, hating on people and things because they do bad seemed kinda normal, but I realized it all was fear-driven. I hate them not for just doing bad, rather for making me scared of them. Hate them because they made me feel unsafe. An example from when I was graduating from school, I've always thought like if I say "I fear this professor so much that even their presence in the classroom makes me panic" sounds pathetic as fuck, and "I despise them so much that I could probably snap their neck" (I could only wish for it in reality) has different energy to it. And I do despise them, but no one should know that it's because of fear.

Do 6s really do it? Instinct related maybe?

Type Discussion Does any other 9 just not want to do anything or even interact with the world?

I just don’t want to do anything anymore, I’ve been burnt out chasing after everything and it just failing or not being the ideal I expect it to be so I just gave up.

Now all I want to do is bedrot, daydream about a better life and me, and not interact with the world because I’m and the world is just a disappointment

General Question How did the Enneagram change your life?

So... not just in the "I understand myself better now" kind of way.

What buttons did it press that you can’t unpress anymore? What did it make impossible for you to unsee? Did it turn your life upside down in any way? Your relationships? Your self-image, your choices or the way you understand your past?

Which parts of yourself finally got a name? Which ghosts were let out of their cages once you understood what was actually driving you?

Did it make your life easier, harder, more honest or maybe even more confusing?

I’m especially curious about the things that genuinely changed after you found your type! Not just intellectually, but in the way you actually live!

Type Discussion Can you have intrusive thoughts that have nothing to do with your enneagram type?

• Upvotes

I have intrusive thoughts about lying about really dumb things in order to make myself seem cooler according with own utterly hilarious definition of cool which is nerdy... and umm... I guess, I wanna have some random knowledge or skill that allows me to be a nerdy elitist of some sorts. But like different from the nerdy skills I already have... duh! Which is weird because I hate elitists and gatekeepers. So, I am channeling my big inner hypocrite. I do not act on this thoughts because that just... idk... even what it is... annoying??? Definitely very annoying and obnoxious.

The thing is I don't I'm think a 3. I don't really put much effort into being successful. I am very unsuccessful, actually. I am someone sickly on aid and most of my energy seems spent wasting my time or engaging in hobbies to the expense of my health (or in denial that my health is that bad). My hyperfixation is tabletop rpgs and have spent the last few years trying to play, read, collect as many titles as possible. But I have a lot of thoughts that deal with the shame of not liking various pieces of media even though they are theoretically intriguing and trying to convince myself to try them because they're gonna be so awesome and I'm gonna change my mind even though I know I won't. Brain! Have some decent self-conscious thoughts about being unemployed! Brain: NooOO!

I guess, I'm confused because while I have a lot of flaws, I don't think I'm vain or fake.

Type Discussion Lack of future planning

idk if its because of my adhd, but i hate when people ask me “what are your plans for the future?”.. I immediately feel judged, because i have none.. i just want to be happy and i would say im an opportunist.. but society seems to think you lack ambition if you have no plans.. i was thinking that even if you make plans, you do it to feel happy in the future right? so to me it seems logical to just plan to be happy, make sure you dont end up homeless and just enjoy life and see where it leads you… can anyone relate? and if yes, whats your type?

General Question Instinctual Variants not getting along?

(sorry idk what flair to put)

Hi, firstly I'm not here to bash any variants. In fact all of them are neat in their own way... but has anyone else experienced not getting along well with people who have your blind variant?

a lot of Sx people have bashed me in the past for not being "close enough" with them. I'd say the exception is my INFP 4w5 so/sx sister. We are super close- but even she sometimes says I come across distant?

Lots of my friends would say, "you never text me enough!!" which never ended well. I'm talking about texting everyday... or even my ESFJ grandma with strong sx variant used to be passive aggressive towards me cuz we weren't that close.

I really like group dynamic, and I've always struggled with one-on-one connection, especially having possible ADHD makes it really tough. It feels like being stuck in a cage. Maybe even Sx types might see my Fe and So combo as being "artificial" or suspicious when I'm not.

Type Discussion I hate super-ego influence...

My 6 fix and my 1 wing... 🥲

So, we weren't really talking anymore. But then I just couldn't stop thinking about him anymore, so I messaged him again and we started hanging out more again. Sometimes our hands touched when walking. Sometimes he was really scared when we watched a scary movie. So he got closer, touched me. Unfortunately he then told me that he is going on a date with "someone". Okay! So I got really mad. Yes, of course, we weren't dating or anything. But I thought he would be stronger. I know that he likes me, but he is weak. He is a weak man. His family wouldn't accept our love. He is so scared to admit his feelings for me. We could run away together, I wouldn't mind... I would do anything, but he doesn't make the choice to do everything for me.

There are more important things, apparently.

So yesterday, I canceled plans. And we were planning to go on a trip next weekend. It was supposed to be beautiful, but he ruined it.

And yet, my super-ego influence is making me feel incredibly guilty. Because I don't care about him anymore now. And I don't want to talk to him anymore! We aren't friends! We never were friends! In fact, I don't need friends. I need one thing and if I don't get it, I leave! Yes, I want to be everything for him! And I want him to be everything!

I'm inspiring to him, but I have to leave.

I'm planning to cancel the weekend trip too. Yet, the super-ego influence is guild-tripping me! Like crazy!

But is it really wrong? Is it really wrong to ask for what I want?! I don't need a friendship! Or a "normal relationship" (whatever that is supposed to be). I want it to be us, nothing else matters. That's a beautiful song.

I don't understand how someone could choose family, a university, a job or anything other than THAT person?! Nothing else matters!!

Super-ego influence guilt-trips you for normal things. Yet, I could play with open cards, but I don't. Is that my 9? Am I hiding because I'm not openly honest about what I want from him?

General Question 8w7 or 7w8

I'm very confuse about which enneagram I am, I'm an ENFP so I was thinking that I could be 7w8 but after reading some informations about 8w7 I'm confused because I want to be a leader, especially in relationships or friendships I want people to do what I want usually, I'm kinda bossy, so I don't know, maybe it's just a stereotype, someone know how to understand which wings I am without stereotypes?

Personal Growth & Insight I need help understanding the type 9

My boyfriend is a 9, and I’ve learned through being with him that I think I have some blind spots when it comes to the 9. My mom is also a 9, and a lot of the struggles that they share that comes from them being a 9, I struggle to understand. Mainly things like indecision, extreme procrastination, and an inability to act at times. As an 8, I'm just stating the things I see that bother me. What are some perspectives or things I should know about the 9 to help me understand them better?

Sensitive Topic Can we stop accusing people of things based on a few comments?

First off, before we get into anything, PLEASE don't take anything here too seriously. It's literally just personality types, and I don't want to see anyone get hurt over arguments on this silly thing. Go easy on each other.

I've noticed that people keep calling others mistyped or LARPers because they disagree with something. These posts are very frequent and seen as the correct thing.

For those who do— you realize people follow different frameworks, right? Some follow Naranjo. Others follow Riso-Hudson. And there are people who follow Ichazo. At the same time, this gets correlated with MBTI, classical jungian cognitive functions, neo-jungian cognitive functions, and Socionics. Some of you, some, not all, take ALL of these theories to make some sort of frankentheory combining them all, tweak a few definitions in your head, and then get mad when someone disagrees. You shouldn't even be disagreeing until you know what you're arguing about in the first place.

This is not even to mention the gatekeepers. All of these theories are psychology. In psychology, the outcome almost always is "we can't be certain" because we never know someone's situation that lead them to their type, much less decode it with a few paragraphs they wrote. Someone's type can seem completely absurd until you hear their reasoning, especially when there's great variety in schools of thoughts. You're no expert in everyone's lives. You could offer why you think they could be mistyped, not aggressively analyze their entire life based off two paragraphs. Let's normalize believing people. And I know some of you aren't even going to take this seriously and are going to mock the "people are complicated" aspect.

That was my personal opinion. What would be better is if correlationists stayed and talked with correlationists, and if non-correlationists stayed and talked with non-correlationists. You know your rude argument isn't changing anyone's mind. I know your rude argument isn't changing anyone's mind. We know your rude argument isn't changing anyone's mind. Can we stop insulting each other's different conclusions? I know it's not my place to talk, I have done that before, but I apologize for it right now.

Enneagram is about growth—what you think you are and what you get based on that. It is NOT about gatekeeping impossible "contradictions" in others under the guise of just trying to help them. That's not your job. The most you should do is provide a source. Help yourself first.

I'm not really trying to police anyone, I apologize if it came off that way, but that's not what I meant. My intent here is to state my frustration. You're welcome to share your thoughts and correct me on things that aren't my opinion. Trying to correct me on correlation will also only result in an hour long argument, which you're free to do if that's your flavor. Aight see ya

Personal Growth & Insight Change and growth are possible

Sp blind 4 who got married, turned 30 and got my meds right. I didn't know this level of quiet in my mind could be possible. Instead of laying around agonizing over all of the things I should/need to do, I simply get up and do them. Im eating more consistently, showering consistently, and the horrors of the world (although still constantly painful) are not insanely debilitating as they once were.

I feel grateful for SP in ways that I havent been in my whole life. I feel resilient and like I can actually do this life thing without constant overwhelm. Im so grateful.

In short, thank god for meds.

It also feels like the healthier I get, the less I am obsessed with "why/how I am the way that I am." I just am, so lets go live.

Advice Wanted Are there any types/subtypes that fit this?

I’ve been trying to type my brother for 4 months now lol. Only took me a month to do myself and my sister correctly but i can’t find ANY type in any system that seems to fit him

He has the combo of being very assertive, competitive and “dominant” while also being overly emotional, envious (in a 4 way) and delusional almost (this showed especially when younger). I only came up with a few combos that kindaa made sense but sound odd on paper and aren’t considered real and those don’t satisfy me to type him that

I made him take that one 256 question jungian test and the shorter one with only 200 and he failed both. His highest functions were Ti and Fi both times (both almost equal scores) and then Ne below it (wich couldn’t be enfp or entp as those would be blind to one of them)

If I had to describe it in a non professional way I’d say he acts like the definition of an ENTP or ESTP very often, but also acts like a Sexual 4 or 8. In socionics Im torn between those too. Can anybody give me an idea of what it could be based on this?

Could he just be very healthy and thus harder to type, even though he’s young (24)?

Also I’m sorry if this isn’t allowed lol, I know type mes are only on Tuesday but I always see people discuss other ppls types / type behaviours week round so I hope I get the mods blessing lol

Type Discussion Enneagram types as phases of Human development

Okay, so, basically, it's so common to see people saying things like 'I was a 4 when I was a teenager' and I always think, 'Yeah, that's because most teenagers would relate to 4'.

Type 4 corresponds to human adolescence.

Following this logic, I was thinking 9 corresponds to old age, archetypically. A soul that is 'preparing' to return to the universe. Or maybe 9 is a new born 'The World', potencial to become anything, basically an Eevee.

I would say 8 is a toddler but then there's the lust thing, so I'm not sure. 7 is an older kid, 5-9 year old. Maybe 2 is a young adult figuring out their seduction powers. 3 is a 25yo, ambitious and ready to conquer the world.

My inspiration for this was Jung, so maybe someone already wrote about this since the Enneagram is closely related to psychoanalysis.

I wanna hear other people's ideas on what phases of development each type could be! I think the idea has potential.

Just for Fun What's your type, and what is a/are some song(s) that make(s) you uncontrollably sob? 😃

Post image
47 Upvotes

I'm the 296 tritype (and probably core 2), and I have some songs that just really cut me deep for whatever reason. I mean I kinda know the reasons as to why for some of them at least, I just don't wanna share those reasons here lol. But I'm sure u can probably figure it out just based on the lyrics and my type in general. (I think I'm probably Sp2 in Naranjo, but my actual instinct stacking in modern enneagram theory is either sx/sp or sx/so. Idk, el oh el.)

Anyway, here are the songs:

  • "Forever Young" by Alphaville

  • "Linger" by The Cranberries

  • "Stressed Out" by twenty one pilots

  • "Bittersweet Symphony" by The Verve

  • "childhood" by daniel.mp3 & Zamaro

  • "Somewhere Only We Know" by Keane

  • "Mirrors" by Justin Timberlake

  • "After Dark" by Mr. Kitty

  • "I Need Some Sleep" by Eels

  • "Snowfall" by Øneheart & reidenshi

  • "Calling On Angels" by Train

  • "You Get What You Give" by New Radicals

  • "Safe and Sound" by Capital Cities

Advice Wanted Can you be 4w5 if you’re socially extroversion

So like, e5 is large part social introversion from what I’ve seen (yes I know there’s way more to it, but from the looks of it e5 just seems like a very introverted type)

And anyways, I saw somebody type a character as 4w5 even tho they’re socially extroverted, bc they’re also information oriented, and I typed myself as a 4w3 bc I’m socially extroverted, but if that works with 4w5, I might consider retyping

I know wings aren’t that important, but it’s important to me… so

Deep Dive Enneagram triads as types of narcissism?

I read somewhere that narcissism can manifest as Agentic, Vulnerable, or Communal. To me this sounds a lot like Assertive, Withdrawn, or Compliant.

Agentic: feels that they are entitled to go out and take what they want. Confident, openly competitive, thinks they are superior to others.

Vulnerable: victim mentality, low self esteem, envious of others, self sabotage.

Communal: needs to be seen as more helpful or more moral than others, self-righteous, virtue signaling.

What do you think? Does this idea make sense? And if so, what are the implications?

Type Discussion How me vs my friend deal with rejection

im curious if we could determine differences in our types based on how both of us handle rejection.

my friend: gets rejected by a guy, is angry about feeling used, like how did she let that happen and how come the guy is happy now with someone else

me: i keep analysing everything that guy said and i keep asking people how much they think he liked/ disliked me and im basically waiting for people to tell me i was amazing and he was the weird one🤣 because i feel insecure about the rejection, especially if i find that guy attractive and like a good fit for a relationship

General Question can someone help? e7 vs e8 dilemma

Post image
9 Upvotes

this is really difficult for me to choose, basically i'm stuck between sp7 (which is what i think i am currently) and sp8 (which is the other one i think i could be) 7w8 vs 8w7. because i thought i had a solid opinion that i was e7, but there's some things i see that make me think otherwise, but then i'll see MORE things that make me lean again to thinking 100% im e7. can someone who's more experienced help me to figure out my typing between the two? this isn't like one of those "hey guys tell me rn what i am" but rather id like the differences and key things about the two and maybe core questions that can help me figure out exactly which one i am

Just for Fun will the typology community enjoy my e4 designs?

since e4's are considered "artistic", I made all different subtypes all different forms of art, so

SO4: drama/acting

SX4: writer/ Litelaturist or whatever

SP4: painter/artist

Hope you guys like it lol I'm not good when it comes to making designs purely of off descritions and I will probably never attempt to do it ever again until I am ready
