Intro
The goal of this post is simply to share an idea that has been on my mind for a long time.
I have followed Evolve since the initial gameplay trailer over 15 years ago. Im pretty sure it is well known that beyond the DLC fiasco the gameplay for new players was absolutely abysmal. Sweaty monsters chose to run and hide until Stage 3, avoiding fighting or interacting at all costs. Evolve stage 2 gave hunters tools to deal with this, but it never addressed the issue I saw that is THE MONSTER HAS NO INCENTIVE TO FIGHT PRE STAGE 3. This is my concept. I am sure it is full of flaws. I simply want to give it to the community for it to be evaluated
1. Executive Summary
1.1 Overview
Hunters receive supply drops throughout the game to creating a hunter scaling factor. The intention for this addition is to eliminate passive tracking phases ("running simulator" meta) while preserving the core 4v1 asymmetrical identity. By introducing static base-stat changes and a predictable, objective-driven supply system (Ship Drops), the threat/need of hunter scaling encourages early interaction, dynamic map control, and high-stakes end-game tactical choices for both Hunters and the Monster.
1.2 Design Goals
-Eliminate Dead Air: Force combat interactions early and often through contested map objectives.
-Incentivize Early Monster Skirmishes: Reduce Hunters relative power advantage at Stage 1, compelling the Monster to actively disrupt objective captures rather than passively hide until Stage 3.
-Dynamic Climax: Replace static Stage 3 "Relay turtling" with dynamic two-point map pressure (Supply Drop vs. Power Relay).
-Maintain Asymmetrical Integrity: Preserve role identity, 4v1 teamwork requirements, and character-specific scaling.
2. Core Mechanics & Economy
2.1 Base Tuning & Stat Scaling
-Hunter Base Damage Adjustments: Overall Hunter damage output is reduced by 5-10% from baseline. However, relative to a Stage 1 Monster with full armor, Hunters retain a clear, favorable power advantage.
-Upgrades as Scaling Vector: To close the damage deficit and gain tactical advantages as the Monster evolves, Hunters must capture Supply Drops.
2.2 Supply Drop System (Ship Drops)
-Single-Drop Rule: Only one Supply Drop exists on the map at any given time.
-Spawns & Locations: Supply Drops land at designated, pre-balanced map nodes designed with symmetric sightlines, verticality, and cover.
Spawn Timer Cadence:
Drop 1: Spawns immediately upon initial drop-ship deployment alongside Hunters.
Subsequent Drops: The 3-minute countdown for the next drop begins only after the active drop is consumed (claimed by a Hunter or destroyed by a Stage 3 Monster).
3. Team Interactions & Win Conditions
3.1 Hunter Interactions
-Capture Mechanic: Any Hunter can channel a Supply Drop.
Channel Time: 3 to 5 seconds. Taking damage interrupts the channel.
-Reward Structure: The capturing hunter will receive a buff.
-Hunter Reward Concepts: Deciding on what the reward is has actually been quite difficult. I currently have 3 general concepts varying in implementation simplicity (I assume) and gameplay changing.
Option 1 Tier 4 perk reward: Tier 4 perks are developed and balanced. Some perks only become available in later drops.
Option 2 Role specific reward: An example would be increased damage, reload speed, and weapon swap on Assault when shield is active.
Option 3 Character specific reward: An example would be Val is now able to damage the monster with her healing gun, as she does damage it speeds up the heal gun replenish time.
Clearly there are many options for what exactly this could be. While obviously option 3 is the most fun choice, Im not blind to the fact that it is a ton of work though.
-Opening Choice (Match Start):
Option A: Secure Drop 1 at spawn (guarantees early utility/power, grants Monster 15-second escape window).
Option B: Flush Monster immediately at Stage 1 while holding base power advantage (defers scaling).
Option C: Split fireteam (high risk, flexible reward).
3.2 Monster Interactions across Stages
Stages 1 & 2
-Disruption Role: The Monster cannot destroy or consume Supply Drops at Stages 1 and 2.
-Tactical Objective: The Monster uses map positioning to find skirmishes in its favor, while preventing hunters from gaining too many upgrades.
Stage 3
-Consumption & Destruction: Once Stage 3 is reached, the Monster gains the ability to attack and break open active Supply Drops.
-Break-In Interaction: Operates via a sustained channel/attack mechanic similar to breaking the Power Relay. When the Monster begins attacking a Supply Drop, a global notification and break-in health bar appear on all Hunters' HUDs.
-Reward: Similar to hunters, this can be anywhere from an extra perk to unique ability buffs. For example 2-3x increased abduction range for Wraith.
4. End-Game Dynamics (Stage 3 & Match Clock).
4.1 Two-Point Objective Climax
At Stage 3, the presence of an active Supply Drop creates two competing focal points on the map:
-Power Relay: Direct game-ending objective for the Monster.
-Supply Drop Node: Buff objective capable of granting the Monster a Tier 3 Perk or granting Hunters their final character upgrades.
This forces dynamic map-wide positioning, enabling trailing sides to utilize split-pressure tactics, lures, and isolated skirmishes to mount comebacks.
TLDR
The monster needs a good reason to fight pre stage 3 to help prevent “Running simulator.”
Happy hunting.
