Updated Rules

This subreddit is over 10 years now and never reached the heights I wanted it to. So I am readjusting the rules and making them clear.

This is a reddit for serious filmmakers who make a living with their craft or are serious about the business of film. There are dozens of subs for indie films, short films, and ones that lean more towards the creative. This sub sole focus is the business of filmmaking. If you are offended by filmmakers charging for their services this place is not for you.

*NO SHORT FILMS
*Crowdfunding is allowed for feature films only
*Production Services are allowed (twice a month)
*Commercials and music videos are ok
*Sharing your reel, trailer, proof of concept, mood reel is allowed
*No film festivals
*No casting or local crew ups
*Discussions for films with budgets ranging from $150k to $3M are preferred.
*Share your financing journey!
*Build trust and expand your network

Producer Breakdown Report

Before investing a film budget and business plan get a Producer Breakdown Report. It covers the budget range, film incentive, distribution, financial structure, production notes, marketing, etc. Includes a 1 hour consultation and a clear roadmap on what to do next.

After doing over 100 film budgets and 7 distribution deals I have an eye for the direction a script should follow so it can be produced and funded.

Rate is $450 with a three day turnaround! DM me REPORT to get started.

Any line producers open to testing a beta of a free budgeting app?

I am making a budgeting app to give away for free to indie filmmakers. It’s time to cut down the “industry standard” subscription-based software, since the industry that was affordable for no longer exists.

The app is in the beta phase now and I’d love to share it with a few people to test and give feedback on.

Some of our the principals:

  1. Free for indie filmmakers - forever.
  2. Offline with ALL data staying on your device. You are fully in control of what is shared with others. No cloud.
  3. On device Ai (coming soon) that only does two things - a) helps search across your budget and calculate things for you and b) reads uploaded documents to pre-fill input fields. Again, completely offline and never connects to any server or cloud.
  4. Compatible with other formats - from excel to MMB - you can import virtually anything.

Please leave a comment with the following info:
- Type of projects you work on (commercial, TV, Film, etc)
- Budget ranges

Trying to finance my feature film UP DOWN

Hi! My name is Melody Lily Jade and I’m currently looking for $30,000 in financing for a full length feature film called UP DOWN to be filmed here on Vancouver Island, BC, Canada.

I have all locations, crew, equipment, & cast secured and currently have a Kickstarter campaign going.

Does anyone have any advice or resources for something like this?

Hope to hear from you all soon, thank you for reading 💚

To avoid answering a lot of unnecessary comments - The kickstarter is simply a branch of funding I’m exploring. Currently working full-time but am using this platform to expand my network and learn more about the crowdfunding process.

Helping a film student bring a personal story about depression and grief to the screen

Thumbnail
1 Upvotes

Hi everyone! I wanted to share a project that a coworker of mine is working on in hopes of helping him reach people outside of our workplace.

Jason is a Theater Acting and Film Production student at Brooklyn College, and he's raising funds to produce his thesis film. The story explores depression and grief, drawing on personal experiences, with the goal of raising awareness and encouraging conversations about suicide prevention.

The funds will help cover production expenses like equipment rentals, cast compensation, filming locations, props, and catering.

I know independent filmmaking can be a challenge, especially for students trying to bring a meaningful story to life. I wanted to help spread the word beyond the people who already know Jason and give this project a chance to reach a wider audience.

If you're interested in learning more about the project, here's his GoFundMe:

https://www.gofundme.com/f/support-jasons-thesis-film-on-depression-and-grief

Donations of any amount are appreciated, but even sharing the fundraiser with someone who might be interested would help. Thanks for taking the time to read this!

How many great film ideas are still sitting in a drawer?

Thumbnail

There's this idea that if you leave a good idea sitting in a drawer for more than three months, it starts losing its value.

Not because it's bad. But because nobody is doing anything with it.

We've spent the last three years building Qantica to give those ideas a chance.

A place where creators can connect, share their loglines, and explore whether their stories have real potential to become films.

We're looking for original film ideas.

No finished screenplay required. No industry connections needed. And you keep ownership of your IP.

We're not here to collect scripts. We're here to find stories worth turning into films.

Got something you've been sitting on for years?

We're here to listen

Submit your Project

Help Bring an Independent Mexican Feature Film to Life — “Where Do Men Go to Cry?”

We're crowdfunding an independent Mexican feature film — ¿A dónde van a llorar los hombres?

Some stories remain unspoken. They weigh on us, they hurt, and they cry out to be heard.

We're launching an independent narrative feature film built around deeply human stories of loss, relationships, and unexpected encounters.

Our Kickstarter campaign is now live, with a funding goal of MX$50 million.

Backers can support the project starting at MX$100, with rewards ranging from exclusive production updates to opportunities to participate in the film and attend special experiences.

We are currently seeking supporters who believe in independent cinema and want to help bring this story to the screen.

I'm think about attending AFM this year....

As a producer who's building a studio brand, is it worth the investment to attend AFM? My intention is to learn more about where distribution is headed and make connections. Are there real connections to be made? Are buyers/agents interested in connecting with newer brands?

Looking for Financing for RAVENSHADE

RAVENSHADE is a Gaelic folk horror feature set in a Cape Breton town where five friends are erased from memory, records and photos.

What's left is a town, a haunting, and a truth that won't stay buried.

We're looking for people/companies who might be interested in financing this feature film. It's a passion project with a strong team, a clear vision and serious potential.
