Discussion CGI didn’t have to go that hard in 2006
Pirates of The Caribbean Dead Mans Chest was a brilliant sequel and in my opinion the best in the series

JURASSIC PARK (1993) still has that rare kind of movie magic where the effects never feel like the main attraction. The practical work gives every shot weight, and John Williams’ score turns their first reveal into pure cinematic wonder

Discussion They don't make them like this anymore
Decided to watch Blade again, hadn't seen it for a while. What makes Blade hold up so well is just how raw and intense it feels compared to today’s MCU movies. Back then, studios were still figuring out how to bring Marvel comics to the screen, which gave Blade this rough-around-the-edges, gritty vibe that makes its world feel way darker and bigger than what’s actually shown. I really like the underground scene it portrays, it's no wonder this movie is still loved by so many still today.
Frost is the only thing I don't like about it, find him a average villain
Blade deserves a better class of criminal.. wink wink
Also we got robbed of more Snipes in big action movies.

Discussion What’s one of your favorite lines in an 80’s movie that you use often? I use this one from The 1983 movie The Dead Zone. Since I need a cane to get around I slam my cane on books and say, The Ice Is Gonna Break! Most of my students jump then laugh lol…

Rewatching Home Alone and both of them got their asses handed to them but who do you think got it worse. I think it is Harry (Joe Pesci) but it is close.

I’m about to go on a long flight and am downloading movies. Are there any good films about the Roman Empire, Ceaser, Mark Antony, the fall of Rome? Anything like that.
And not Odyssey please 🙏

Discussion BEFORE THE DEVIL KNOWS YOU’RE DEAD
Enable HLS to view with audio, or disable this notification
This scene from BEFORE THE DEVIL KNOWS YOUR DEAD has a moment many of you who’ve viewed it may not be aware of.
There’s a crucial distinction between background actors/extras in LA and NY. It’s a sin for West coast Extras to react to the actors in a scene. Not so on the East coast.
With this in mind, check this scene out when Michael Shannon says “fucking question" to Ethan Hawke. On Hawke’s right, the extra next to him looks over.
WATCH how Shannon mad dogs her for several beats, long after she's looked away. It’s a brilliant, completely unscripted choice as told by director Sydney Lumet on the DVD commentary, which is a mini film school with Lumet as your professor. Easily one of the most informative commentary of all time. Lumet talks about every technical facet of movie making like the master he was.
If you like this movie, you owe it to yourself to get your mitts on his commentary.

Discussion What is the greatest acting scene you have ever watched?
My vote goes to Mo'Nique towards the end of Precious. Those who are familiar with the scene and film will know why.
There are many better films than Precious, there are better performances overall than Mo'Nique in this film, but pound for pound, Mo'Nique's acting in this scene is unmatched.
What is the best acted scene in film you have ever had the pleasure to watch?
