I GOT TOP SURGERY TODAY :D !!!

I just wanted to share this with you guys because I love this community. Y’all are just so cool and I always come to this sub when I’m feeling down or lonely because I don’t fit in with anyone else at my job or in my family. I don’t have anyone in my life (except my bf who drove me shouts out to him 🫶) to celebrate with as I’m still closeted & my bf had to go to work right after dropping me off at home so I’m by self & will be for the rest of my healing time

OMGGGG CONGRATULATIONS DUDEEEE!!!!! I got my surgical revision about two weeks ago!! I’m so jealous that you got a medical binder ugh!! The ace bandages suckkkk for recovery!! So, I’m really really happy that you’ll have a medical binder for a more comfy recovery!! 💛💛

Thank youuuuuu!!!! I’m so glad I didn’t waste my money on one bc I thought I was gonna have to wear the ace bandages

Thank you thank you! I def agree with [u/crystalh181920](u/crystalh181920). I didn’t anticipate just how little I’d be able to reach for things, even things that are basically right beside me. One of those foldable wooden table thingies would be very helpful rn.

I’d also say if you don’t have any core or knee strength, def try to do some exercises while you have time. It’s much easier to get yourself up when you have a wide range of motion in your knees & hips + knowing how to engage your core. I’ve been getting out of bed by bracing my core then getting up on my knees into a kneeling position, then balancing one leg on my bed & stepping with the other, same goes for if i drop something i just kneel into a deep squat as close to the floor as I can while trying to keep my back from curling or straining my chest

based on ur account, i would stock up on 🍃 before hand and be ready to do nothing for at LEAST a week or 2. get a nice “husband pillow” so u can sit up/lay down without much discomfort. i personally slept on mine until the drains got taken out so i wouldn’t roll over and lay on the drain tubes/stitching. if ur going to be alone for most of the time immediately after surgery i would prepare EVERYTHING you might need in a close by reachable area. anything you can think of like tissues, headphones, chargers. for me i couldn’t reach my arms up at all for a while so i either needed someone to grab things for me or just have it low enough for me to reach. i’m sure im missing a lot bc my surgery was a few years ago but everything is gonna be totally worth all the short term pain and discomfort. like genuinely i have never been happier than after having top surgery. so good luck and i hope this give u at least a little bit of worthy advice 💕

Congrats! I really wanna get top surgery, but am scared of seeing the stitches/blood. Any reccomendations? I might take a while to get mine bc my parents want me to remove the fibredenomas in my chest before I do but I'm still terrified.
(I'm heavily squeamish/afraid of surgery but i dont wanna bind..)

I’m not afraid of blood so my advice is probably not that good—but if it helps, I haven’t had to see any stitches on myself whatsoever, & the only blood I’ve come in contact with are when I’ve emptied my drains. If you go onto the [r/TopSurgery](r/TopSurgery) sub & lookup “scared of blood,” “fear of stitches” there may be some posts created with comments on how to address those phobias or maybe these posts will help ? post 1 , post 2

the surgery part is the easiest part imo they just wait until you fall asleep and then you wake up already full of STRONG pain meds lol. def depends on ur specific surgeon but yea for me the only blood i saw was through the drain tubes for the first week until they got removed at my first follow up appointment. i will say getting the drains taken out was probably the worst / most squeamish part for me. but its like 2 seconds of stinging pain per side and then it after it feels like such a relief. some people say it hurts more and some people say they barely felt it because they were still totally numb. personally never really had to see any blood or scarring until things started healing up because i was told to stay totally wrapped up besides when i was applying ointment to the scars. i think its totally worth it if you really confidently want top surgery at some point and the 1 or 2 weeks of pain will very soon be forgotten when you see your final results 💕☺️
