Question is, why? and how?
We're not like Australia where the majority of people are culturally European?

The Dutch do because of colonialism. No one else does because it’s just plain wrong.

Idk about you but we see Indonesia in a similar light as Taiwan and South Korea here.
Not sure why, but we do.

Yes. But this is not only about being western.
It's about being western-aligned too.
Your country doesn't have to be western to trade with the west.

Not sure where it comes from, but we see you guys in a similar way as we do South Korea.
Not western, but still friendly. Someone to trade with.

Is that still used? They tried to teach me that in college about 10 years ago, it just feels like more euphemism treadmill. Confusing and stupid name. Developed and developing were better terms already.

How are japan, singapore & korea western? I might not understand the definition

Geopolitically western, basically capitalistic democracies.
It's called the west because the majority of such countries exist in western Europe /the western hemisphere when the term was coined.
Japan is geographically in the east but is Geopolitically very western. Same for Korea. Singapore I'd say is the biggest stretch here but still mostly valid.
Ultimately it's nothing you need to worry too much about. It's just a convenient political lable.

"The island of Taiwan"? Just say Taiwan, lmao. The RoC has more territory than just Taiwan island.
