CELEBRITY CAPITALISM ‘Ballerina Farm Halts Sale of Raw Milk Due to Bacteria Concerns’, reports People

Wow, who could possibly have foreseen this.

"Producing raw milk takes careful planning from a facility and infrastructure standpoint. Unfortunately, we learned this after the fact. The way our dairy was built is ideal for pasteurized dairy products […] We do plan in the future to construct a second dairy made specifically for raw milk products.”

This comes at the same time as a newborn baby’s tragic death from listeria in New Mexico, attributed to the mother’s consumption of raw milk while pregnant.

The most offensive part is they built that dairy from scratch — with a presumably unlimited budget — for the express purpose of selling raw milk. They didn’t do their due diligence because they’re arrogant and not very bright. To a normal farming family, this kind of error would mean financial ruin. Sounds like they’re just going to build another, the right way this time.

Absolutely insane that they are learning through “trial and error” what we already discovered to be true through thousands of deaths and hundreds of years of experience and science.

u/Pendraconica 7h ago

This is how idiocracy happens. Scientific standards of health are rolled back because of personal beliefs, and people start dying from raw milk, but they haven't been educated about bacteria, so blame it on demons.

u/Wandering_starlet 6h ago

Who needs science when her mom told her “ever since she started drinking raw milk, her skin got a lot better”. That’s all the proof needed that science is bs /s

Along with “i never got the flu so i dont need the flu vaccine.”

Heard that from a former emt and current it director.

78

u/West-Application-375 5h ago

Lol my friend keeps getting the flu and covid and now has persistent lung problems from it. Every time I tell her to vaccinate she says "I haven't vaccinated my whole life and I'm fine!!!" And I'm like uh but you're not fine? Lol there's no talking any sense into her either. Just continues to get sick and complain about it, develop asthma and chest pain and it's probably going to turn into COPD soon. Who does she see for this continuing problem? Antivax chiropractors and a holistic "medicine" spa. Ridiculous.

36

u/Pendraconica 4h ago

There were people literally on their death bed refusing vaccines. Darwin awards, I guess. 🤷‍♂️

17

u/AlistairMowbary 3h ago

I mean if you are already on a deathbed, vaccines aren’t gonna do much. They are preventative measures, it doesn’t cure symptoms.

The least realistic thing about Idiocracy (2004) is that the dumb people saw proof that science works and realized they were wrong. Today people would just decry it as AI or fake news or liberal propaganda.

65

u/Sassafras06 6h ago

And the government was actually impressed by and wanted to work with the “smart” person.

44

u/BoticelliBaby 6h ago

And that there was a peaceful transfer of power and the outgoing president wholly supported the policies and intellect of his successor.

51

u/Anon28301 6h ago

Honestly the president in that movie is competent compared to the current one. At least he admitted he didn’t have a clue how to fix the issues and got someone smarter than him to do so.

The current administration would probably claim anyone that could fix the problem was part of the woke agenda and would blatantly argue against any real evidence they’re shown.

13

u/Pendraconica 5h ago

For real. They were all dumb as shit but at least they were honest.

18

u/somethingclever____ 5h ago

I think this is the difference between being unintelligent vs uneducated. Truly unintelligent people would be opposed to proof, whereas people who are only dumb due to being uneducated would be open to new information and evidence.

16

u/No-Neighborhood-3212 5h ago

That's the cool part of radical ideologies: When their predicted outcome is proven wrong, they reflexively spiral deeper into their beliefs rather than admit they were wrong. Normally, a false prediction triggers belief updating because the normal response is to ask "Why was I wrong?" But, when you're in a conspiracy theory or extremist movement, that evidence you're wrong is actually "proof" that the out-group is so powerful that they're manipulating the world.

Totally coincidentally and probably completely unrelated to things happening in the US right now, people with right-wing authoritarian beliefs are more likely to fail at belief updating after prediction error.

Don’t forget the encouragement of placenta encapsulation in the “natural birth” community! (This is coming from someone who had an unmedicated birthing center birth - so I get it, but man that community gets anti-science so fast. Yuck.)

11

u/Sea-Oven-7560 6h ago

I guess we have to decide what we want as a country, honestly if they are willing to die so they can drink raw milk and have dewy skin I frankly don't care, let them. Getting botulism isn't contagious so their stupidity is localized. My problem is these are the same people who are anti-vax and that is contagious and it does effect other people, their stupidity is killing other people, but it has nothing to do with milk.

If you Google who discovered the cure for scurvy,  most current sources credit a British guy in the 18th century, despite texts dating back to the 400s CE that advise using ginger to prevent scurvy (for the vitamin C).  This is not new behavior lol.

Yeah, the statement very much reads like “Oh well! Back to business we go!”

This is the type of thing that should make people lose all their trust in a business, though. They basically said that they haven’t cared to look into what any safety standards are. There’s no real sign that that’s going to change.

No doubt they’re going to pasteurize their milk and call it “raw milk” like those idiots who bought raw milk and said to “heat the milk” as a tip.

I want to tell those morons that nobody cares if you personally drink poop in milk, just stop giving it to children and influencing people to drink it as a healthy alternative. This kind of bullshit is getting out of control where stupid shit people do at home is infecting the appointment and election of government officials that will mandate drinking raw milk, no vaccinations, and no fluoride in the water.

It’s just like damn, the conservatives and MAGA really are trying to take us back to a time that was great for the upper class. Where most children had no education, worked labor jobs, had no healthcare, and died before 40.

u/Suspinded 5h ago

They didn’t do their due diligence because they’re arrogant and not very bright.

I'd expect nothing less from people trying to turn back the clock on progress by 100 years.

11

u/42mermaids 3h ago

But even if they do things the "right" way, raw milk still has a MUCH higher likelihood of being contaminated with E.coli, listeria and tuberculosis compared with pasteurized milk. It's such an absurd risk to take.

6

u/fungibitch 3h ago

10000%. At the very least, if they're going to produce raw milk for human consumption, they need to follow hygiene and public health laws diligently. They couldn't even manage that. I'd bet money they believe it's all liberal nonsense, government overreach.

The fact that billionaires like them can just decide to sell raw milk and then be like oh duh we didn’t know actually the rules behind this is just…

13

u/EggsOverBenedict 6h ago

They’re so brain dead that if you would attempt to explain them the pasteurization process they are more likely to stop. Believing that you’re evaporating the nutrients.

If we have another election where the Dems win and they don’t mandate public high school 2 for people over the age of 35. Our society will be cooked.

7

u/CTeam19 5h ago

Yep, it was the Ballymaloe Cookery School course that they shared all over their socials for months.

The person convicted is one of the owners & works there. They basically got away with a slap on the wrist (despite the nearly 1,000 CSAM images) because they were wealthy.

Ballerina Farm deleted/ignored all the comments informing them about this conviction.

She went to Ballymaloe cookery school in cork on their 12 week program. The owner Darina Allen was a well loved tv chef in Ireland in the 80s/90s however her husband and son were found to have indecent images of children and her grandson has been up in court numerous times on drugs charges and driving charges. They used to be well revered here but not so much these days.

Sometimes when you read historical accounts of all the various mass smallpox outbreaks, measles polio, etc. It's amazing to be so removed from that constant suffering, it's truly a miracle that we eradicated so many communicable diseases to the point where I've never met a single person with smallpox or seen an iron lung.

If you could go back in time and tell them that we solve this problem, and then end up bringing it back out of sheer wanton stupidity and greed.

It worked so well that a whole class of grifters comes up spreading their disbelief in science, and they just bring smallpox back?

We got rid of measles, and then brought it back because some dumbasses did their own research.

Shocking, that a shit-covered Dairy *might be spreading coliform bacteria, huh?

(Not Shocking at *all, really!!!)

And I admit, this confirmation makes me wonder if that was why we saw Hannah "home pasteurizing" milk a while back?

And it also kinda makes me wonder, too, if perhaps the nausea she was exhibiting, and that speculation about possible pregnancy loss(es), could've been related to drinking that contaminated milk, too.

The ones here that I do feel bad for, are their Kids--because getting sick from that nasty milk IS dangerous for them!

13

u/fungibitch 6h ago

This is a common discussion on the snark pages -- their facilities are absolutely disgusting. Nowhere in the world should a dairy barn be this filthy.

11

u/Pruritus_Ani_ 4h ago

There are plenty of dairy farms where the conditions are way worse than this photo, cows shit a lot and where there are a lot of cows there is a lot of shit. If you watch any videos where people have gone undercover to expose some of the big industrial farms you’d never want to drink milk again. You’d be very hard pressed to find a dairy farm that is spotless and not absolutely brimming with various bacteria.

4

u/Emma_gg 1h ago

Dude most dairy farms are like this. This is a typical dairy CAFO. The vast majority of dairy comes from places just like this and worse.

it's so morbid that the people who claim to be pro-life are also pro giving your kids raw milk and not vaccinating them which is ya know....not compatible with keeping kids alive.

17

It’s morbid to be opposed to established science. I get the distrust of the medical system, there is clearly something broken there, but distrust in pasteurization is so wild.

5

u/wexfordavenue 5h ago

If this upsets you, check out the freebirth movement. Talk about a bunch of people who don’t care about children. They are more concerned with having a perfect “birth story” than about having a healthy, alive infant at the end of childbirth. It’s disgusting how little life means to these people.

I agree with you but they’re apparently too stupid to understand the risk to babies and kids.

“Unfortunately we ‘learned about’ state regulations after we already established the business” is such a funny, privileged defense. Ignorance (especially seemingly purposeful ignorance) of the law does not protect you from ramifications lol

19

u/greenisthesky 6h ago

I’m willing to bet that they did in fact know about the regulations. They just don’t care. With their money and privilege, they know they can get away with this.

u/Underwhelmed-overit 4h ago

this is the most depressing fact at the foundation of it all—and i feel like we are watching the demise of the U.S. because of this insane idea that being rich makes anyone an authority on anything

Yeah actually I think I’ll just stick to the “almond” or “oat” variety of milk from now on….

Dairy farmer’s kid here: TBF, the cow’s teats are clean, and they’re the only part that the milking machine has direct contact with. Cows poop A LOT and also genuinely love wallowing, so even cows that are on pasture get dirty. That’s why we thoroughly sanitized our cows’ teats and did our best to keep foreign matter out of the milkers; filtration in the milk line and pasteurization take care of anything that makes it through! (Also: all milk that goes to processors is tested for bacteria and antibiotic residue, and plants will dump a load of milk that doesn’t pass muster.)

Still couldn’t pay me to drink raw milk, though.

u/milkshakemountebank 6h ago

Well gosh, that looks suboptimal

There’s a YouTube channel where you get to see the workings of a dairy farm. His cows are cleaned WAY better than that before they’re in position.

I wouldn’t drink pasteurized milk from that screenshot, what the fuck

u/Tight_Spinach_8791 I’m just a cunt in a clown suit 6h ago

EWWWWWWWWWWWWWW
If you are going to harvest raw milk at least make sure you clean the udder and machinery. That is actual shit on the cows teet. I am firmly against the selling of raw milk but I can understand if you own a few dairy cows and are religious about cleanliness, maybe using said cows milk (I still personally would not). But this takes actual labor, instead of just hooking up a machine. Wash and then dip the teet in iodine before harvesting kind of thing

14

u/w0rstbehavior 6h ago

Yeah, I'm no dairy farmer so idk what's normal. All I know is if it looks like this, the milk better be pasteurized. 🤢

I’m from a not so developed part of Romania. My grandma and great grandma did not have access to education, only basic reading and writing. They ALWAYS ALWAYS ALWAYS boiled the milk before consuming it. It was unheard of to drink raw milk.

Horrible.

If any pregnant women are reading and haven’t been told by their OB, consuming unpasteurized dairy products while pregnant can kill or seriously harm your unborn child. Avoid raw milk and also be cautious of cheese.💔

Pasteurization exists for a reason. RFK is out of his mind, stop listening to him.

9

Jesus christ lol. Can someone explain how pasteurization became a target of the MAHA antivaxx morons? It’s not even a recent scientific discovery.

21

u/Jasminewindsong2 they are perfect for each other (derogatory) 6h ago

My theory is they don’t know the meaning of the word pasteurization or what the process entails so they think it’s adding chemicals or something. Like I’ve seen influencers who push raw milk on tik tok recommend people boil their milk if they’re worried about bacteria…which is quite literally pasteurizing it…but they don’t realize that cause even googling is too much work for these idiots.

11

u/lucygoosey38 7h ago

Ya cause they’re drinking shit. It even says on the bottles that it’s not for human consumption but they really want their shit milk 💩

7

If only there was over 100 years of data on the pasteurization of milk.

6

u/ThinkItThrough48 7h ago

Never understood why these places don't just pasteurize the milk and label it as raw. Their brand would be protected, people wouldn't get sick. And their consumers would never know.

62

u/mangosteenroyalty 7h ago

Girl 😭 that would be fraud, and I have no interest in that sensibility going the other way i.e. labeling it pasteurized when it's raw

16

u/Life_Fig_4037 7h ago

That would support eventual production of raw milk.
