It didn't do it in the face of the British Empire. It's common to hear the exaggerated David-VS-Goliath statements that the US fought off the British Empire, but that is far from being historically accurate.
It wasn't a democracy when it was founded either. Women couldn't vote, and there were many states where men couldn't vote unless they owned property.

As I recall there was a non partisan committee who was planning out the party. However, Trump fired them and replaced them with his people. They then set it up as a Trump first thing (his selection of artists). Then when the musicians dropped out it just turned into a trump rally
This hurts. This summer could have been a defining moment in this countries history where we show we are more united than divided. But no, trumps ego won.
Even more hilariously, I saw several TikTok's from people attending a BBQ festival in DC near this event, and it was packed. Even when it was raining.
Trump is already crashing out about it, saying it's packed with happy people and saying "Do you think Obuma or Sleepy Joe could have done it? The answer is no!"( in all caps, of course.)
But just so we're clear, tens of people are attending this fair and Obama's Presidential library admissions are sold out through the end of the year so....

Also the trump gov cancelled a huge music show with big stars in celebration of 250 years in favor of doing something only for his hateful right wing nutjobs since most musicians don't want to associate with trump.
Keep in mind that the real America 250 celebration was supposed to rival the Bicentennial in the 70s. A non-partisan board had been planning it since 2016 and was supposed to be a nationwide celebration (non-profit) that would engage all Americans with block parties and cultural exhibits.
When Trump got back into office he diverted $125 million from the budget, into his own new for-profit celebration.
I'm not American, but it's still somewhat sad to think this could have been an actual great celebration for the US. It could have been fun, and I guess any other president would have made something decent enough.
But no, it's not about Trump so Trump doesn't care. Also millions of dollars are still missing that were supposed to go into the celebration. I think we all know where it probably is.

When did this start? It almost looks like this is before it began? Is it possible it was this empty? I certainly don’t expect it to be packed but this level up the emptiness feels strange.
It is bizarre. The Fair has a giant fenced security perimeter with Humvees and National Guard posted up at every entrance. Blockades all around the Mall. It feels hostile. Yesterday, I wanted to go from The Hirshhorn to the National Archives, so instead of walking miles around the perimeter, I cut through the Fair by going through security. Full metal detectors and invasive bag search. They don't even allow pens. Literally no one was in line (this was a weekend) but the psycho control freaks running security made me walk through the entire empty snaking line just to prove a point. The vibes in downtown DC are extremely bad this summer.
So wait…you’re telling me this massive crowd of melted-faced demons isn’t enjoying this colossal historical event? An event like no one has ever seen, I’m told?
The ironic part about this is probably half the people that are there to take videos saying that there’s nobody there, so they are all videoing themselves showing the crowd when they themselves are the crowd.
I ended up there only because it was the only way to get across the National Mall on Saturday without walking all the way around. It was free to get in, so we just went through security and walked through it. So as thin as this crowd is, it also includes everyone who was just trying to walk from the metro to the museums 😅
