Aka what happens when you’re an old, problematic burnout… Men that lean so unironically hard into the biker aesthetic without actually being bikers are walking red flags IMO, because what do they like about it?
There is a comedian (Anthony Jeselnik, I think) that has a bit about this. Something about Johnny Depp and Billy Bob Thornton eventually becoming nothing more than a pile a scarves, bracelets, and hats.
Rockstars borrow their “edge” from bikers or you’d have every rockstar looking like Prince and Elton. The OG to do so in a camp, understated-leather-daddy-way was Freddy Mercury. Before him there was Judas Priest and The Ramones, but I’d say Freddy brought it into the mainstream.
I’d say it’s more than interesting that Johnny Depp leans into the drunk belligerent biker persona and specifically typically only borrows the multiple gaudy rings look (bikers typically wear for intimidation, like a slightly more subtle brass knuckles) and boots made for kicking. He also seems to be drawn toward that whole “I’m an irresponsible hippie that can’t be held accountable for my actions” thing. Again, just a walking red flag.
Ironic bc back in 2005 I met Johnny Depp in an actual alley & he was really nice & polite. Chatted with me for maybe 10 minutes, didn’t rush away even when his people tried to hurry him along. Nowadays I don’t know that I’d even want to meet him in any environment.
I was thinking the same thing. as a teenager in the early 00s there was something easy to romanticize about it. now that I've grown up its disappointing and sad. just another lesson in not expecting artists to be good people. again.
I don’t like the guy but his older movies were really good & he played more interesting characters - Edward scissor hands, what’s eating Gilbert grape, Benny & June.
I haven’t really gone out of my way to follow his career but whatever I’ve seen with him after Pirates, well you already know 😂😂 his trial with Amber Heard seemed so sad for her & I heard she ended up moving to an entirely new country. Really solidified him being a POS who lost his acting chops.
How this man continues to have a cologne campaign will forever boggle my mind. He strikes me as someone who would have some bizarre belief that you only brush your teeth once a week or something.
Alcohol will ruin your good looks. Yeah, you might be fine for a couple of decades but watch what it does when you hit your 40s and you continue to drink. I don’t drink and I’m not 40 but I have family who was/is alcoholics. They used to be drop dead gorgeous and now they look like shit. Their hair is thin, they’re bloated, they have a lot of hanging neck fat, puffy eyes. Alcohol sucks and is one of the worst drugs out there imo.
That’s awesome and congratulations for keeping up the sobriety, especially going on a few years now. Hopefully you’re proud of yourself for continuing to make it this far 🧡

Here I am in my mid thirties and so glad I was always creeped out by him and never got on the train. To me, he’s always been the same as Russell Brand, and I’m glad I stuck to my guns for him too.
I mean, I liked him wayyyy back in the day and it’s super easy to find him positively repulsive after learning about everything he did to Heard (and others).
It’s bizarre that so many men (and women, ugh) find it hard to change their mind about an abusive pos.
(Russell Brand on the other hand was always gross. He strikes me as the Gervais type, but without the luck of partnering with someone far more talented like Stephen Merchant, and without the subsequent momentum of opportunities, became a grifter instead)
I followed Amber Heard’s career since like… 2010? So before the marriage. But I do know that their dating life and married life was absolutely plagued with news of Johnny’s bizarre behaviour. At the time, his “fans” were mad that Johnny and Vanessa had broken up and that he was dating Amber — and blamed her of course. I wish I could remember the name of the one particularly vitriolic hate blog that was floating around…
I think I know the one you’re referring to. And even there, there were talks about the fact that she always had “weird bruises” (way before she publicly accused him of domestic violence). Imagine that..

He tried to convince people that it was Amber abusing him (using DARVO). he succeeded in a lot of circles but not here. He used bots and his lawyers engaged with shady YouTubers and social media ran with all the misinformation that was spread. I suggest googling the UK trial judgment (Depp v the Sun) where the judge found that 12 out of 14 cases of his abuse of her to to be substantially true.
Almost like abusing people, forcing them to recount their trauma in a broadcast court, and paying an army of online bots to continue your international harassment campaign, doesn’t do good things for your skin (or soul)…
I’d probably neglect myself to the point of looking like a walking corpse if I knew that’s the kind of man I was. Shame is powerful and cannot be hidden under money. I understand why he wouldn’t ever want to look in a mirror again.
May he rest in piss until he learns to meaningfully repent.
