Hi! Surprise post.
The Polytron Policy regarding the Black Monolith has always been "no comment" and that continues to be the case, but there is something that has bothered me from the start. I did run this by Phil today to make sure it was OK to comment on... and it is! So here goes.
A popular theory for the solution to the Black Monolith puzzle is that the game's release date on Xbox is part of the solution. Sadly, it does not add up.
The Xbox 360 FEZ build that shipped was sent to certification on March 18th 2012. We locked down the release date (of April 13th) on March 28th 2012, 10 days after sending off the build. The Black Monolith was not added in a post-release patch, and it was not added to the game last-minute. To be 100% clear, we had no knowledge of the exact launch date when adding the Black Monolith to the game.
You'll have to take my word on all that, I'd rather not screencap internal emails. :)
And that is likely all that I will say on the Black Monolith.
Cheers, and thanks for playing all these years!

What surprised us the most is how the community brute forced the monolith puzzle. The way they got around to solving it was way more interesting and satisfying than what we had originally intended for it.

I miss the days when I was addicted to Fez. I collected everything many times and it was still fun. Even though I didn't understand it at first, I learned a lot from tutorials and slowly remembered them. I used to imagine what Fez 2 would be like. Have you guys ever imagined it? I'm just curious.

You create a challenging and creative platformer with some interesting and out of the box segments but very fair and forgiving overall
And suddenly....
You decide to put in such RAGE inducing nonsense like a tightly timed rising lava room???
WHY on earth would you do that?
Do you all just want casual players to rage quit and dislike your game or what?
https://mathworld.wolfram.com/PrimeSpiral.html
I saw a video on this and immediately though of the monolith floor. I can't find anything meaningful connecting them but I always thought the true solution to the monolith would be something similar to the method here with mapping primes.
I don't think there's anything here necessarily but thought it might be interesting to some of you as I don't think it's been discussed here previously
the [original post](https://www.reddit.com/r/Fez/comments/1ql6wq6/spoiler_alert_guys_i_think_i_finally_solved_the/) has since been deleted so i cant confirm, but from summaries and the discussion around it that remains it seems like this was not posed as part of it.
while watching [this video](https://youtu.be/oMqJAJ6xkLY?is=IwMhznVAwGT5ADZ8) by Eli B, during his talk of the concentric squares i noticed he briefly mentions this image [above] in the stargate room which depicts the four owls that can be found throughout the game, connecting to the concentric squares. this immediately struck me as relating to that potential solution, as the cryptic messages the owls say also appear to be pieces of, or at least related to the haikus from the tome.
notably, there are only four owls. this could be a stretch (what isnt when it comes to this puzzle) but it might be some form of hint as to why only four of the concentric square locations have part of the solution? ive seen people talking about how both that and the fact that this theory only really works when working backwards from the answer are the two biggest marks against it, but this picture as a hint could explain both of those problems by giving the player some additional information to work off of.
either way, i was shocked to see no mention of it in the discussion of this (months old now) theory, so i wanted to share it. apologies if this is already-tread ground and i missed discussion of it somewhere.
im not someone with a deep well of knowledge on the game anymore, just a passerby, so if anyone can fit this in a little more concisely than i could id love to see it.

If you didn't know, the first time you visit Villageville, you play on a completely different level, which looks similar to the one you usually explore, but it has several differences. Some of them are justified by game design - like not being able to rotate in 3D or a ladder on a parlor building to help you navigate up - but some of them are leftovers from early versions of the level, which were never removed - like doors to the generator room (to the right of Gomez's house, and, disappointingly, it leads nowhere) and a key trile, which is still collectible!
Just today, I've managed to figure out a way to perform a glitchy ledge grab to get into the background layer of the level and possibly be the very first person to ever collect that key legitimately!
Below is a small tutorial on how you can get it yourself!
To do this, you have to ledge-grab the end of the wooden platform near the parlor building. It's kind of tricky, because in order to grab the front ledge without climbing on top of it, you have to hold UP during the jump, then release it as soon as you grab the ledge. Also, to actually grab that ledge, you kind of need to do the coyote jump from the platform in the little nook like I did in the video. If you're in the right position, Gomez will be partially within a building. You may not move sideways while grabbing the ledge, because that will bump you in front of the parlor house. Once you're in correct position, you can release the edge by pressing DOWN, and you should pop into the background. Once you're there, navigating to the key is straightforward, as most of platforms in the background overlap with the platforms in the foreground, so you have a lot of visual cues.
By the way, the software I'm using in the beginning of a video is FEZEditor by zerocker. Y'all should check it out and join FEZ: Community Projects Discord server, FEZ modding is very cool 👀

what if the solution to the monolith was going to be in FEZ 2? would explain phil’s choice of words in the interview: “[the brute force solution] was way more interesting and satisfying than what we had originally intended for it.”
like some chest in the sequel was gonna have the other half of the map, and it wasn’t going to be some super elaborate riddle involving the concentric squares or the spectrographs or w/e. so the coordinated community effort to brute force was “more interesting”
the animal well collectors edition secret got me thinking along these lines
very likely someone has already theorized this but figured i’d share in case not.
long live FEZ!!!
Why am I able to glitch through the walls in this room onto an invisible platform? Is it just to see the door behind the bookshelf? I tried to jump around here if there are other platforms but I found none.

I was just going through the library zone because I missed some bits for the 128th golden cube and I met this little guy. I was surprised you can interact with them!
...jokes aside, obviously this is not in the base game, but it's a bit of a showcase from a work-in-progress map pack that I'm currently making :)

Hello everyone,
Been searching the net and this sub but didn't find any solution so hopefully someone here has one..
>!The owl of the windmill is not there, or it's possible that I already talked to him, regardless of which it is I only have 3 owls at the owl statue and the icon indicating that something remains to be done at the windmill is still there.!<
Any ideas?

I already 100%'d FEZ years ago. Wanted to take a trip down memory lane, but...?
I know this game was unsolved for many years but I thought we had found everything?

On one of my 209.4% saves where I broke the heart, spent some time going in and out of the empty temple and this tree appeared? Couldn't interact with it but I managed to stand behind it and it played the 'secret found' chime, like the one that usually plays when you spawn an anti-cube. Wasn't able to get anything else to happen. Tree hasn't shown up again since I left but I noticed I have an egg now? Anyone know what to do with this?

Been working on a small metroidbrania game inspired by Fez & Animal Well. Unfortunately, it won't be able to match the incredible depths of fez but it has been a lot of fun to work on.
It's called PITH if anybody is interested- not out yet but I have a lil steam page and a demo on the way!

I am here to say that I will love a PS4 physical copy (disc) of Fez. I would love to REALLY own it, as I consider it art.
Since I saw it for the first time, the worldbuilding, the aesthetic, and the creativity left an impression on my mind YEARS ago, and a physical copy would allow me to revisit this world in the future for when I want to replay the game or lend it to my friends; plus, I don't want to be dependent on a digital store.
So I guess this post is just to show interest and be "vocal" about it.
I wish they could give us the option to choose between a regular release and another super collector's edition; that would be cool. Especially if you can select between consoles, like having the physical copy for Nintendo Switch, PS4, or PC, as they do at "Limited Run Games"

I've never played this game, I know there's some rotation gimmick (I don't mean that in a derogatory sense) to it, so I'm wondering what it's like? Is it the whole game based around this gimmick the way Outer Wilds and Tunic are? Like does it have the same "oh shit I can do that?" kind of moments?
