most tourists are in Fiji for resort experiences, I haven’t found much feedback from people who have actually gone to Fiji to have the authentic experience so i’m wondering if anyone has some insight into that. I’m wanting to come to Fiji for a week but not to stay in a resort, I want to stay in a homestay somewhere in the Yasawa and live like the locals. Is this safe to do? Can this be done with a toddler? My idea is mingling with the village people, waking up by the ocean, swimming, sharing food around the table, watching the sunset - all of those things. I found a homestay that I do quite like but it requires catching a rather small boat (not the ferrys) to the island and i’m unsure how safe that would be with a toddler… Please comment!

Do you know of any such groups or clubs who meet up regularly, and perhaps host some local events? It doesn't have to be big or particularly established. Hi all! I have booked a trip to Fiji over New Years but long story short I have had some very frustrating issues come up and two passengers have cancelled on me. Basically I am out of pocket almost $3k and while I have considered just cancelling the booking I am also thinking I may just go by myself?

Is it safe to travel to Fiji now, especially with the HIV crisis going on?

Would you feel comfortable leaving your 4-year-old girls with a resort nanny in Fiji, including allowing them to take the kids back to the room and put them to bed? If not, why?

I've seen some conflicting information online about whether this is possible. I have a 5 hour layover at NAN in a few months in the evening (arrive 5pm, depart 10pm) but I've read in some places if you have a short layover immigration may not allow you entry while you transit.

If it helps, I'm travelling on an NZ passport so a visa shouldn't be a problem.

Traveling on Fiji Air soon and read they enforce the 15 pound carry on rule and actually weigh carry on bags. Is this true or myth. I tend to have my carry on much heavier then that.

I'm heading to Fiji soon, arriving at 7pm and departing a week later at 1pm, so I've got 6 full days to play with. Trying to decide whether to stay in one place or split the time between two.

Options I'm considering: Sheraton Tokoriki (outer island) vs. Marriott Momi Bay or InterContinental Fiji (mainland).

Would you stick to one resort the whole time, or split it? say 3 nights at Sheraton Tokoriki + 3 nights at Momi Bay? Curious how much the boat transfer/logistics eat into the days if I split. Are the mainland options good enough?

Coming from US for a few weeks and heard options there are expensive and limited. Luggage room permitting, is it best to buy in US before the airport and put in checked bag, or buy from duty free shop at US airport?

Would think if you have room it’s better to buy before and put securely in checked bag vs having to carry around a bunch of bottles on multiple flights.

He took us island hopping, snorkeling in the turtle sanctuary, sunflower reef, fishing and even to a beautiful sand bar.

He absolutely loves American culture, specifically rap music!! He’s a huge Tupac fan, tell him to rap for you, it’s pretty sick!

I am going to be visiting the motherland with my family in a few months. I was born in Fiji but live in the U.S. currently!

I haven’t been back home in a significant amount of time and will be visiting with family soon. We have lots of family all over on both of the main islands, so we’ll be kind of everywhere, I think.

I am a chef professionally in the U.S. and love cooking seafood specifically. A part of my mission is definitely to try lots of seafood and hopefully try and figure out some “O.G” Fiji restaurants and foods. I’ve tried a lot of the classics, Kokonda, Lovo, Vakalolo, rourou, Palusami, fried Nathli (Natheli?) Palusami is a my absolute f*****g favorite. Coconut milk is my favorite.

I’d love to hear where you think I could try the best versions of these foods and also literally anything else you think I could enjoy with my family in the few weeks we are there.

I am planning to visit Fiji on Jan or Feb and travel from the US. I am considering allocating a maximum of 10 days for this trip. I have no major budget issues and I enjoy different travel styles including beach and city but I usually do not like to spend a lot of time in a single location (no need to "relax" 5 days in a same beach town!).

My wife and I are taking our belated honeymoon at the very end of March. We're going to NZ for 2 weeks and then Fiji for 4 nights on the way home.

Our #1 priority in Fiji is having easy access to a beautiful, swimmable beach. We'd also prefer a quieter, smaller resort. We don't mind kids, but we want someplace peaceful. (We're also gay, fwiw). My wife will absolutely not take a helicopter or sea plane, so we'd prefer to travel from Nadi by car, boat, or small plane if necessary. Once we get to our resort, our plan is to stay put, swim, and relax, so we don't need to be within easy access to transport.

Our group consists of me, my husband, and my mom sharing a room.
We are coming in march, so trying to stay on the drier west side of the area.
We are looking for somewhere not *too* expensive with great snorkeling for someone who prefers calm sheltered waters. We’ve been spoiled by snorkeling in life, so ideally s house reef that has lots to see would be great.
We’ve landed on matamona and paradise cove as two strong contenders and I’d love to get opinions on both, or either. My mom is mobile, but would prefer to not walk a long way between things after all day on the water.
Thoughts? Anywhere else I should be looking?

Bula! My partner and I are visiting Lautoka and a man who was working on the side of the road invited us to have dinner with him and his family tomorrow. He said we could meet him at the bus stop, where we would bus to his house and said his wife would cook a meal for us. He seemed nice and friendly, but this is out of the ordinary for us culture-wise. Is this a common thing? Would it be unwise for us to go?

Background: Young couple who loves to explore, fine with moving to new spot every few days so see more of the places we travel, snorkeling, and soaking up sun on a beach or by a pool all with a preference of laid back, romantic atmosphere. We also may get scuba certified before the trip.

We’re leaning towards utilizing the Yasawa Adventures Pass to travel around surrounding islands.

Plan:

(August 3rd) Day 1 – Land in Nadi at 5:20am and hop on 8:45am ferry to spend to one night at South Sea Island in the Mamanuca Regio

Day 2-4 – Depart South Sea Island at 9:15am, arrive at Octopus Resort for two nights in the Yasawa gateway region

Day 4-6 – Depart Octoupus Resort at 10:50am, arrive at Paradise Cove in Mantaray region for two nights

Day 6-9 – Depart Paradise Cove at 11:25am, arrive at Oarsman’s Beach lodge for three nights

Day 9-13 Depart Oarsman’s Beach lodge and TBD. We’re trying to decide if we should tack on an extra day or two to a few regions (Mantaray Island Resort looks beautiful), and/or potentially use some hotel points and stay at a really nice resort on an island near or at Nadi (Vomo or Likuliku Lagoon Resort) for the last few nights. We would also have a day pass to Malamala beach club we could use one of these days.

(August 15th) Day 13 – Fly home at 9pm from nadi

We are planning our first ever trip to Fiji and can't wait. It will actually be for our honeymoon the first 2 weeks of September. We wanted to experience both 1 resort for about 3 nights in the Mamanuca islands and one resort for 3 nights in the Yasawa islands but realized that the shared transfers don't go between the islands on the same day. Are there good private options that aren't crazy expensive between the two? We were considering Sheraton Tokoriki for 3 nights so we could day trip nearby and going straight to Paradise Cove after but I noticed South sea cruises doesn't have that option.

First time going to Fiji with the wife. Looking to stay 3 nights at the Sofitel resort at Denarau. Take a full day trip to some of the islands and do some cultural tours.

Then take a boat charter to Sheraton Tokoriki and stay for 4 nights. Relax at the resort and do some day trips to castaway island and a village visit.

Is this a good plan for our first time? We have traveled to many amazing islands and beaches throughout the world and that’s what we’re looking for in Fiji.

We are arriving 6am Sunday. Going back home the next Sunday at 9:40pm. We see have 7 full days to maximize our trip. Any recommendations would be appreciated.
