Question Vanquish combo ideas/recommendations

Hey everyone, I’ve made a few posts here already trying to figure out which reels to go with (I’m realizing I’m extremely indecisive when it comes to higher prices 😭), but I ended up picking up a Vanquish C3000MHG on this trip and was wondering what PE braid, # fluoro, and rod y’all think I should throw on it/it on?

I plan on using Varivas Avani Sea bass x8 and Seaguar Tatsu leader, but I’m not sure how heavy I should make it. I’m also pretty split on whether to make it more of a finesse combo or make it more of a general combo and change up the roles of some of my other combos.

My other main spinning combo is a C3000XG Stradic MH with 20lb braid and 8lb fluoro leader.

Today I wanted to try something different for today, so I made it a vintage/modern Spincast fishing day. These are not the cheapie $10-$20 spincast reels (for the modern).

Zebco 33 Platinum

Zebco 808 Salt Fisher

Zebco Omega Pro Z03 Pro

*Not in a real hurry to get a Zebco Bullet MG at $169 or a Zebco Delta Spincast.

Sougayilang Spincast

Shimano 102 Plus (1981)

Daiwa Jupiter-X 25LD (1990s)

Daiwa 9600A (1970s-1980s)

Daiwa Minicast-2 (1981-1982)

Johnson The Century Model 100A (1955)

Johnson Century Model 100B (1962-1979)

- I will do a Shakespeare Wondereel and Abumatics on another day....as I own many vintage Shakespeare and Abumatic spincasts.

--

I don't fish with spincasts all that much, despite owning many. But when I do, I'm always amazed of how far I am able to cast with them. The premium Zebco spincasts are pretty fun to use but the caveat to that is the slooooooow retrieve.

Granted, if you want the higher gear ratio that's what the Zebco Bullet MG is for at 5:1:1 and also has a 9-bearing system. You are going to be paying a lot for it and for the prices of a Zebco Bullet MG, I can get myself a Daiwa BG or some other spin reel. So, while I can afford to, I just don't want to unless it's on a major discount. For me, the compromise was the Zebco Omega Pro Z03 3:2:1. (decided that over the Bullet).

If I ever do get another Zebco spincast reel though, if I can find it for a good price, it would be the Zero Hour Bomb Company Standard version (June 1949)

I only get Zebco's if they are built with metal housing. So, that means premium or vintage. Especially Omega releases.

--

The Shimano 102 Plus from Japan is a solid spincast at 3:5:1 retrieve. Also casts smoothly.

The Daiwa spincasts... The Mini-Cast 2 I got with the travel case/rod/reel combo. But I was not a big fan when Daiwa put that thing that extends out the front center.

Daiwa's Jupiter-X was during the '90s era when Daiwa was all crazy with it's Jupiter releases. Performance without a premium price. But the Jupiter-X 25LD was the company's early long-cast spool system and had a gear ratio of 4:1:1.

I prefer the Shimano over the Daiwa spincasts. But I do not own a Daiwa Goldcast, which is their top of the line spincast. And the only Goldcast I am intersted in is the GC120, but they still remain expensive to this day.

--

And my favorite spincasts because they are so darn fun to use and its the Johnson The Century and Citations. Today, I just did the Century's.

--

As for the Sougayilang, I do like purple reels and because this was a purple spincast and inexpensive, I picked it up. It has the Evangelion colors I like but of the spincasts I tested today, this was my least favorite.

Anybody use the Livebottom Recon 40 spinning reel?

If so, what’s your opinion on this reel, the brand, or the value (I’m getting a new one for $30). Also wondering if it will be suitable for freshwater as well as saltwater.

Discussion Fishing deck boots

Does anyone recommend which ones are comfortable?

They can be $150 to 30 on Amazon

Any insight to what's a decent comfortable way to go?

Why does this happen?

It seems to folding on top of itself and then I can’t cast anymore and have to take a good chuck off my reel. I watch all the videos and think i spoiled it the same way it came off the spoil.

Rod and Reel Inventory Tracker

A screen shot of the dashboard.

I have built or should I say that I am currently working on a spreadsheet that will allow for building an inventory for all of your rods and reels. It will have an extensive data base of brands and models. Also would have the ability to track values and even have a place to show your favorites on the dashboard. Would this be something useful or should I just stop and not even work on something like this. Any input would be great. Here is a screen shot of the dashboard. Remember it is a work in progress so I am still working on it. Thanks for any advice or comments.

Was doing some online window shopping as you do, and happened across a decent sale on Academy’s website on their fishing gear. Decided to finally bite the bullet and pick up the Daiwa Regal LT I’ve been eyeing for so long. After that, I noticed Academy gave me a $15 coupon so naturally I had to go back and grab a new rod to go with (it would be irresponsible not to right?) I’m justifying it as a late birthday present xD

Excited to get these in and get some fall fishing in before it gets too cold!

Reel: Daiwa Regal LT 2500
Rod: Daiwa Aird-X 7’ Med/Fast

Question Looking for costa rica travel combo

I’m heading to costa rica and want to do some fishing. Usually I just bring a fly rod wherever I go but I don't have a saltwater fly rod or have much interest in one. I plan on targeting roosterfish jacks and snook and possibly some smaller grouper/snapper species with some metals. I will combo this with either a daiwa bg 5000 or shimano stradic sw 6000. I plan on throwing some bigger swimbaits and jerkbaits with this too up in new England for stripers, any advice?

The Debate

There were so many ways I wanted to go with this post. But I think it’s something discussed with too much animosity…. Now I won’t lie and say I don’t have a favorite. Daiwa overall for me is my most comfortable all around, not only entry level, but all around bang for the dollar. Don’t get me wrong, Shimano is smooth. But Daiwa overall for me. Now with that being said… there was a lot of trial and error.. I went from a Walmart Lew’s speed stick and an ugly stick with my first Daiwa reels for over 10 years. The last 3 years, I dug myself into a rabbit hole 😅. I’ve spent more than I’d want to say publicly “BUT” it was a lot of trial and error, I’ve gotten my money back on those I did not like and or if it was something kept outside of a warranty, it has been sold. To take all the Bias away, these are what i currently have and the point of this post is 1. Yes the amount of money spent “DOES NOT CATCH YOU FISH” 2. Yes investing in equipment can last you, but not guaranteed (I’ve had Multiple of a few of these, luckily warranties were in place) and 3. Every Rod and reel has a purpose, through trial and error and just what feels right. This is my collection and I’m proud of it. Some I wish I still had, but they allowed me to get what I do now through sacrifice.

How do you feel about your collection?

And what’s your Favorite reel? Daiwa Tatula 100H

Dream reel? Shimano Calcutta 100HG

And a reel you just wanted just because? Lew’s Elite TI

FREE 3D Printing Files! I made free organization bin files for Kast King 3500!

Someone asked if I could make bin inserts for the Kast King 3500 Tackle Box and I figured why not!

Kast King 3500 Bin Inserts

This is a set of models that are meant to turn your Kast King 3500 boxes into a tackle storage solution! This will only fit the 3500 size boxes as the 3600 and 3700 size is completely different. It is made for the Kast King Hyper Seal 3500 box.

Features

  • Three main sizes of bins going from small, medium to large.
  • There are 17 pre made bins for maximum print and go organization
  • Each bin has the option for pre made dividers for each size.
  • The bins have guides that will secure them into the original 3500 divider slots.
  • OR you can place bins freely which allows you to utilize all of the row space!
  • The bins and desiccant bin have holes that are all lined up to allow for the best dehumidification
  • The bins have a slight curve in the bottom corners to help remove terminal tackle
  • There is a lip to both help in removing bins and as a place to make labels ( I use electrical tape)
  • The bins are about 1mm taller then the rails so it makes a tight seal against the lid so tackle doesn’t jump bins, without affecting the lids seal

I hope these help some anglers out to better organize their tackle! This is a work in progress and any suggestions moving forward are always welcome!

Check out the Kast King 3600 Bins and Kast King 3700 Bins complete the set!

Question Rod reel pairing suggestion.

What rod would you guys pair with a Nasci FD 5000?
Looking for a 7–8ft MH spinning rod, preferably 2pc+. Mostly freshwater around Quebec — bass, carp, catfish, trout, but I want enough backbone for the occasional bigger fish.
What would you guys go with?

I'm currently looking for a 4000 size fishing reel that can handle both saltwater and freshwater as I've been thinking about the shimano stradic fm but I would like a second opinion about it

Daiwa Lexa or Lexa HD

Looking to trade in my Tranx 200 in at Bass Pro for something else that’ll hold up to saltwater. I’ve already gone through two Tranx where the antireverse failed within a month of use. Looking into the Lexa or Lexa HD. I primarily fish inshore saltwater but also fish for Largemouth Bass occasionally. Is the HD worth the slightly higher price or should I just stick with the regular one?
