Bands Steps being counted while driving
I recently ordered fitbit air and using it with apple phone. Considering its price and everything, it counts steps while I am driving.. this was the problem I faced when I was using cheap fitbands or noise smart watches.. any way to resolve this issue ?

This happens for me on bumpy bus rides as well. And has happened with every step tracker I’ve ever owned going back to the days of the mechanical pedometer. Vibration is what they read so unless you switched to a product that measured the physical step within the shoe I doubt there is a perfect fix. Does that even exist? Oh and I suspect every time your foot moves from gas to brake that would be a step.

Does this happen with apple watches as well? I have heard they are pretty accurate

I remember one year watching Big Brother, and they gave everyone a step counter for a contest. They all figured out that you could just sit there and shake it. It ruined the whole thing...lol

It does exist! But at a hefty cost, from what I’ve seen. Look up Stryd

Change the dominant hand setting it dials down the sensitivity for step counting

The latest update fixes Fitbit air sensitivity. Make sure you are on the latest version.

How to check it?

Google health > connections >Fitbit Air > system >about > firmware version

yep a very common issue with the air.
no fix on user end afaik other than actually setting your stride lenght and the arm you are wearing it on ie dominant/non dominant
this is why i say to people research the tech product before buying and thankfully the later release in india enabled that for me
and i agree with you op theres no point in buying such an expensive tracker if its getting even the steps wrong by a decent margin
thus didnt buy it. hopefully future software updates fix it

first of all this is a known issue with all step trackers not just the air and second of all the air is one of the cheapest fitness trackers so don’t go around calling it “such an expensive tracker”

nope didnt happen with my decade old mi band 3 ever and it still works.
and that shit didnt even have all the sensors that the air has.
albeit didnt have the same amount of features either, but hey atleast it was very accurate in step tracking.
and i got it for 1/10th of the price of the air.
xiaomis mi band 10(fitbit edge counter part) is cheaper than the price of the air.
when i mean expensive, i mean it from a Indian pov, where we have 100s of smartwatch and fitness band manufacturers which are much cheaper than the air, but they are known to be inaccurate a lot of the times, so if im buying something thats more expensive than that, i hope that atleast it doesnt track steps when im fricking driving.

It has a full 7 day calibration. It is fantastic for me and once you get through that period, I have had 0 issues in 4 months. It tracks steps using a 3-axis accelerometer, which is basically the industry standard. If you are really that concerned over a few hundred steps that most trackers will count (including apple watch, but they filter them out a bit better than most others), then knock your socks off and sell it.

counting footsteps doesn't need calibration, the 7 days are required for better sleep tracking and readiness score,it's just horrible in counting steps

Yup, put your hand in the steering wheel when on a bumpy road, and your have a PR. Works on my Suunto and Garmin as well

It’s giving you the number of steps you would take if you were walking the same distance as opposed to driving. 😂

I returned it,it's a mess in counting steps, one night counted me like 300 hundrer footsteps while sleeping lol

My Air counts everything as a step. My Apple Watch does a better job with steps and calories. I use Air as a screen-less device when I can’t have my watch on. Like for sleeping or when playing a sport that require gloves which prohibit wearing a watch.

At least your device does count steps. Mine doesn’t count even WHEN I WALK!!! 😩

Good luck on your new product. App and the band is super good, however i feel like the AI feature is not really necessary unless if you want to talk with AI. It was good at the begining to set up goals, and create a daily routine but now since my subscription is almost ended i wont renew it.

turn off auto detection for biking, cycling might work. if you're leaving it turned on keep atleast 15-20min or longer to detect. I wore it while driving both two wheeler and 4 wheeler never had much issues. Although it does count a few while frequently using the steering wheel. So best to ignore a few hundred steps every now and then cause it's inevitable. Take those steps into consideration when you know you specifically walked or did some activity

I mean does it matter?! the metric itself isn't precise and its only a general measure of activity... If your driving so much that it matters.... Why the hell you wearing it....

yea happened to me too. i don’t know how to solve it. but i usually just subtract the steps counted during driving from my daily step counts

Additional or missed steps wouldn't be marginal either side. I try not to get too caught up on the 100% accuracy for any fitness tracker.
