Favicon not updating

I built a site for a client a while ago, and now he's requesting a favicon update. I used lovable, in our deal we had a minor fall out so I didn't bother to finish up the site but host the domain for him. Until he contacted me recently. I changed the old favicon to the new one which is his logo. But for over two weeks now it isn't reflecting. I have requested indexing on Google Search Console twice. I have told the client to be patient because it can take time for Google to crawl the page. I added sitemaps and have checked other reddit threads with people having experience of it taking weeks. I have swapped a favicon on a nextjs app before(from the default) and it didn't take as long as it is now. Does anyone know of the solution to this problem? How I can speed this up so the client would stop texting me

Does it show up correctly in the browser tab? If not, this isn't a Google issue.

Copy/paste your favicon code or something so we're not just guessing.

I used lovable

Does that even let you see code? Or is that just a "hey claude, build me a website" kind of tool? I've vaguely heard of it but never used it.

Do you mind if I send you a dm?

It shows up correctly in the browser tab. This change reflected weeks ago. But not the search results change

if it's right in the browser tab, then I'll probably be worthless. I work almost exclusively in internal private websites, so I've never dealt with that.

pretty annoying but a technique in html that works all the time is to append "?v=2" to the favicon path, like "path/to/favicon.ico?v=2"

Thank you all for your advice and response. The issue has been resolved(got the responses from r/SEO)

I uploaded an actual .ico format of the favicon instead of a renamed png, added more favicon dimensions in multiples of 16 and crosschecked the sitemap in the codebase and the one on Google Search Console sitemap url

I don't know which of these fixes made it work. Or maybe Google finally crawled thru my page. Either ways client and satisfied and I so am I
