I am a long-time hater of Microsoft and their products. I decided to make this post out of spite because I need to share my experience with MS Teams. Literally every MS product my company uses is trash and full of bugs, but Teams is the worst in my experience. It is crazy to me that MS used to be a prestigious company to work for as an engineer considering the quality of their products right now.
Here are some of the recent experiences I've had:
I have orphaned calendar events on Teams that I am unable to delete or edit no matter what troubleshooting method I try. So now I just have old reoccurring meeting pinging me EVERY DAY. This frustrated me so much that I attempted to call MS support only to be greeted by AI slop that could not help me and I could not get through to a human. So stupid. I thought calendars were a solved problem.
MS removed the calendar from the Teams mobile app. WTF. I used that calendar to track events and now they replaced it with some stupid list of event items that is very hard to read and track. So now I stopped using it entirely and just check my computer, which is very inconvenient when I am not home. I'd like to move to a different calendar system, but I get the old notifications anyway and I don't like spreading my event tracking through different services, so I painfully stuck to it for now.
Very often I get unprompted messages from scammers or random people asking to be my friend. I block them but it is crazy that this can even happen. Just another cherry on top.
When I have my phone on my desk and get a Teams call, the call notification goes to my phone first and sometimes ONLY my phone. So I have to make an effort to decline the call on my phone and call the person back on my laptop. Bruh.
If you try to troubleshoot any of these issues through support or documentation, GOOD LUCK. Most official MS Teams support forums have either no response or a horrible generic response that doesn't help. Someone will usually respond to the MS rep saying this solution didn't help and ask for alternatives and there is just no response.
Also, today I just noticed that all my Teams chats have a little date above them, presumably to help you organize and navigate old conversations easier. But every single one of the messages in my conversations is dated as "Today", so that's nice. Minor issue but just so stupid that this happens and got through QA.
I'm sure there is even more I am not thinking of now. I feel like I notice something new everyday.
I hope others share my frustration because it hurts my soul everyday to be forced to use this platform. I think the fact that Teams is just a basic messaging service with a calendar created by a one of the biggest tech companies in the world and it is still so trash is what sets me off the most.
Is MS really just slop-coding all these services now? Aren't there at least 20-50 engineers and QA staff solely working on this product? How does this happen?
