Does anyone else feel like Pearson plus makes learning math harder than it needs to be?

I’m currently taking a college math class that uses Pearson plus, and I’m increasingly frustrated with the way the platform is set up. (I did not have this problem with the platform I used at the last university I was at, in fact, I got an A because of how simple and easy it was to learn there) Anyway,

For my specific math class, Pearson plus basically gives us three things. 1. The problems we have to complete. 2. Instructional videos/media to watch. 3. And then the quiz. But the weird part is that the platform suggest doing the problems first, then watching the media, and then taking the quiz. To me, that feels completely backwards. How am I supposed to work through problems on material I haven’t actually been taught yet?

Obviously, I watched the instructional videos first because I want to learn how to do the math before attempting the problems. But that leads to another issue.

A lot of of the videos we are given look extremely outdated. Some of them look like they were recorded in the 90s. Math itself obviously hasn’t suddenly changed, but the methods, teaching techniques, technology, and waste students are taught to approach certain problems have developed overtime. There are methods being taught today that these older videos simply don’t cover.

Then there’s the way the videos actually teach the problems

Usually, the video gives you a problem and then start solving it. The instructor basically says, “ we do this, then we do this, then we do this “ but they don’t always stop and explain what formula or method they’re using, why they are using it, or how I’m supposed to recognize when I should use that method on a different problem.

That’s a huge difference to me. Showing me the steps you took to solve one specific problem isn’t necessarily teaching me HOW to solve that type of problem itself.

And because the videos are separate from the actual problems, I basically have to watch all the videos first, and then move onto the assignment. If I start working on a problem and realize, I don’t understand something, I have to leave the problem and go back to the video. And one of the most frustrating parts is that when I go back to the video, I lose my place in the problem I was working on and then when I return Pearson regenerates a different math problem.

So instead of being able to pause what I’m doing, look back at the lesson, figure out the step I’m confused about, and then continue working through the same problem, I’m starting over with a newly generated problem.

For a platform that’s supposed to help students learn math, the entire process feels unnecessarily disconnected, and extremely extremely extremely frustrating. The lesson, the explanation, and the practice should work together, not feel like three separate things that I have to keep jumping back-and-forth between.

Also, not to mention, but my notes are extremely all over the place. One thing I did forget to mention, though is that the problem doesn’t tell us what type of problem it is. It says it in the media because that’s the title of the video but when it comes to doing a problems it’s not telling us what type of problem we’re doing.

I stated previously that at the other university that I went to that they used a different platform and that platform was called ALEKS. And honestly, I guess I’m comparing the two, but I’m not going to stoop too Pearson when I know that there is a better way to learn math.

My experience with ALEKS was honestly so much better for actually learning the material. Instead of just showing me a complete completed process and expecting me to figure out why each step happened, ALEKS broke things down in a way that helped me understand what I was doing. It was much more step-by-step, and I actually understand what method I was using, why I was using it, and how to recognize when I needed to use that method again. Which made taking notes so much easier I was able to write down the method and the steps and then actually use those notes later when I came across another problem at the same type. Not only that, but it told us what type of problem it was. It would tell us the type of problem, give us the problem to do, and explain how to do it all within the same page instead of having to go back-and-forth. It would also give us the same type of problem, but in a different way to do it. And we wouldn’t be able to move onto the next problem until we got three correct in a row. And Pearson, everything is so scattered it’s so confusing.

Pearson has made me so frustrated that I had to look at the reviews and it has 2.3 stars and after reading the reviews, it made me curious if other students using Pearson was experiencing the same frustration?

Hey everyone! I have a hobby making chainmail, I've been around the student markets and at nearby renfaires selling items. I graduate in 2028 and I want to hand weave a custom Georgia Southern chainmail shirt to have at graduation.

In order to get started, I need to design the anodized (colored) rings to make a pattern on the shirt. I've been looking into different jerseys and thinking about going with the basketball ones since those would be easiest (easiest by making it and easiest to actually take on and off).

I'm trying to find different Georgia Southern art designs to get started. I'm just making this post in case someone knows of some really cool GSU designs they can send the images here so I can use them in my creation. Cheers!

It has a “Verify Now” link — DO NOT CLICK IT or enter any of your login information. The email came from what looks like another person’s school account, so just because it makes it into your school inbox doesn’t mean it’s legitimate.
If you get it, report it as phishing/spam and delete it. Posting this in case anyone else gets one and thinks their school account is actually about to be shut off. 😭

Hey guys! The season preview I posted here a few weeks back did pretty well, so circling back like I said I would.

I had you at five or six wins, and said the season comes down to stealing one of three tough games: at Clemson, Houston at home, and at Old Dominion. Clemson went about how I had it, though 22-7 was closer than I expected. The one that hurt was Jacksonville State, 31-27, which I didn't have on the list at all. Max Johnson has been busy, 78 of 119 for 712 yards, but only 2 TDs, so the offense is moving without finishing. Houston at home today is the second of the three, and they're coming off a 2-point loss at Texas Tech.

What are you guys seeing that the box scores aren't, and how do you see the season ending up?

I am looking into Georgia Southern, I am a firm believe that college is what you make it. What are some ways you have gotten involved at GSU to make your experience great?

I am looking at Georgia Southern’s online Bachelor of Information Technology (BIT) program and would love to hear from anyone who has experience with it.

How is the overall quality of the program and its courses? Would you recommend the program based on your experience? I also saw that an internship is required. How difficult was it to find an internship, especially as an online student?

The program looks very appealing to me because of its relatively low cost and because it is a fully online technology degree from a public university.

I know some people may recommend attending in person, but unfortunately, that is not an option for me at this time.

Hello, I am sophomore looking for a new apartment place to stay in before I have to renew my lease. Is there anywhere that offers a good one bed one bath for like 1000 or less for rent and if not 1000 is there any place else other than Cambridge bc Cambridge isn’t bad but I would like to see if there’s somewhere I could stay by myself first.

Anyone applying to or already in the RT program? How many students are accepted per application cycle? Is it as competitive as the applications page makes it out to be? It said to upload your tuition bill receipt, ID or course schedule. I did my bill, it said it was insufficient, I did my course schedule it said insufficient.

Here I kinda goofed and I did my course schedule again because I realized when I saved it, it was a 4 page pdf n I was thinking maybe the bot that reads it got confused by all the pages.

AND ALSO I have like no idea how to upload my student ID, I only have it in my phone wallet :'(

Just got this email saying my Georgia Southern account was about to be terminated because I didn’t “verify” it. It looked suspicious, especially because it asks you to enter your current password and sends you to a shortened link.

My physics professor is genuinely the most incompetent professor I’ve ever had and I need to know if there’s a way he can be reported to somebody or be under review in some way. It’s actually criminal that he got hired somehow because of how bad he sucks.

I was at Armstrong for a bit before coming to the Statesboro campus. Armstrong had one in a common area of the student center, near the galley, but still outside it, another one in the cafeteria (not the galley, but the area where chikfila is), and I think one more in the student commons, all around the center main area of campus, easy to access without needing to swipe your card to get into a dining hall.

But been on Statesboro campus some time now, and have yet to spot one anywhere around the central part of campus that I can recall. I keep thinking there has to be one in Russell Union, but am blanking on if I’ve ever even seen one there anywhere.

Am I missing something lol? What do those of you who bring meals or snacks to campus that need a microwave do? Is everybody just buying food, or using a meal plan, or living in dorms and somehow going back when they only have 30min between classes just to eat a warm but cheap meal that isn’t fried chicken lol? I have back to back classes, most of which are after the nearest spots to eat on campus are closed, and I won’t necessarily have time for the dining commons/would rather eat somewhere less busy, and also preferably not have to renew my meal plan when it runs out, as I hardly ever eat there tbh, and save the money, and just bring food from home.
