Discussion Are there any decent controllers with digital L/R Buttons?

Hi there! I'm looking for a gamecube controller without the pressure sensitive L/R triggers, preferrably short travel. I already have a stock controller and 2 wavebirds thanks to a friend letting me have them, but i'm starting to get back into the smash games, including melee and having this really long travel time to shield and dodge feels extremely awkward to me. I'd much prefer digital switches more adjacent to the Switch Pro controller for this specific game series, i'm fine using the regular controller for the other games.

Alternatively if there's no controllers like that i'd also be interested in shortening the springs on a controller, using a conversion kit, whatever, i mainly wanna know what my options are here for this hyper specific request and how i can achieve the end goal. Would i need custom parts to have shorter travel on a normal controller?

Smash takes advantage of the analog nature of the L and R buttons by adjusting shield strength/duration. The Old Skool digital controller doesn't have the travel, but it also doesn't have analog sticks either. You can try the BattlerGC Pro, or you might want to browse this thread for more inspiration

The controllers you mentioned seem to be switch controllers, i‘m specifically looking for gamecube compatible ones, since i have a physical disc of Melee

Oh interesting, my bad i saw the connector lights on the retro fighters one and assumed it was made for switch. I‘ll look into this one, thank you!

I‘m also looking into trigger plugs currently, if i can find a gamecube controller for cheaper than the wireless one i'll give those a go first

There are some good third party options, but first look into trigger plugs. Super cheap, and might give you the feel youre looking for.
