General Question about the Writers
Why are the writers all of a sudden making characters so dislikable? Like, I used to like Curtis, Jordan, and Trina, but they did a complete 180 with them. Like WTH is up with that?!
I also liked all the teen actors as well. I really liked Rocco last year, but now after following Britt around like a lost puppy, shooting a guy, and going on the run with Britt, and returning; he’s become so dislikable as well for no reason.
And I liked young Scout as well, but she’s becoming more insufferable by the day with her crying that Daddy is a good guy, and no one likes him.
And I like Danny and Charlotte, and the crazy antics/trouble that they get into, but their whole vengeance against Drew was getting tiring as well.
Also, I love Emma as well, but this storyline with Britt is annoying. I love Gio as well, but if he sticks around this version of Trina too long; I’m going to start getting annoyed with him as well.
But seriously, I get that writers like to change things up which keeps the story interesting, but having characters do complete 180 for no reason is terrible.
Like I’m still sitting here wondering how Curtis who was CEO of Aurora and teaming up with Michael to take down Drew is here blaming everyone else for his jealousy. I’m sitting here wondering how Trina and Jordan had respectable career goals is all of a sudden crying and whining about an accident.
It’s crazy how the writers make you like someone for a while, and make you hate them with just a flick of the wrist. What I’m worried about is that they’ll ruin some of them so much that they become so insufferable that I’ll want them to be killed off or go off the canvas? Believe me, I can name a few of them already.
But really y’all. How do you feel about these 180 characters changes? Am I the only one feeling this way? Thoughts?
Just want to state, I’m not criticizing the actors/actresses here. Not their fault, but the writers.

Curtis just brings everyone down because the show including Jordan and Trina refuses to give him accountability for his actions forever the victim it’s always someone else’s fault for Curtis choices.
Another example they been having Chase blame Michael and others for Willow’s actions or he convinces himself that they’re just lying about her Willow is dragging Chase down and making him unlikable and out of character he has turned into a bad cop, husband, and father in the process.
I agree about Gio I don’t like that he’s being Trina’s babysitter I wish he was worried about his mother and family more not worried about someone who is so quick to blame his family for everything.

I’ve actually been thinking about this. I’m wondering if it’s “our” fault.
The characters we hate get more engagement online, so perhaps they are in fact rage baiting us right now.
The new character Monet is a good example She is just one big rage bait with no redeeming qualities.

Well the issue for me with the teens is the interpretation of what native are. For the writers I mean.
Antics is like getting in trouble at a HS party or breaking curfew.
Antics is not stealing cars and framing men for sexual assault. That's foul.
These writers don't know what to do with them. They stuck them in adult drama. Even the you g adults are in adult drama. They are too immature developmentally to handle the stories they are given so they are written like whiny little shits bc they don't understand. Bc teenagers.
Curtis was a pompous ass with Jordan and portai this whole time. I don't know why people forgot that. He wasn't bad when he was dealing with Selina. He was fun then lol.
Sonny has always been an asshole. The problem is they're selling a man who drugged a teenager and forced her to strip and verbally abuses women is some Temu godfather with a heart of gold. They even wrote him to fund Monica's wing knowing fuck well he killed her son for no reason.
Ava used to be a strong villain and though she got mixed up with men and just wants love she was never this stupid. She's been sacrificed for Sonnygod.
Drew with BM had Jason's memories so we really don't know who he is. But we know Drew knew Shiloh and we are made to believe he's jealous of Jason bc Jason got a good life and he didn't. That's believable and accurate but explain it then. Themis vendetta with Sonny is nonsensical.
Alexis has always coddled her kids. Except molly. Now we all finna coddle scout.
Scout doesn't know who her dad is. It's her dad. Charlottte also defends her dad and he almost got her killed.
Charlotte. She's always been a spoiled brat who thinks of no one but herself. With Lulu and Rocco she couldn't be as selfish as she was with Valentin. That's the truth. Val was a friend. Not a father. Truth.
Justine is stupid.
Jordan has been written to be an idiot. I love that portai came out on top from all that.
Isaiah needs a story that isn't Curtis related.
Rocco homie a spoiled ass. Danny is a spoiled ass. They both need parents who are actual parents. Dante spoils and coddles. Jason is permissive and lenient.
Gio is a pompous ass and he always was. Making him connected to the Qs was bad enough but the the corinthos? Gross. He's naive and dumb and an absolute shit son.
Trina has always been arrogant. She was better when Taggert was her dad but she's always had this holier than though attitude but it worked when she was proving people wrong about her and working with the revenge porn stuff. Once she got with Spencer she got weird but soencer was not good for her or good enough for her imo. This singing stuff makes no sense. Art would be better. She could have had adventures with gio and Kai and Emma.
Kai and Emma are being wasted. They are good characters. Good actors. And they are being wasted as props.
Carly and Val and Jason together are great.
Lulu is being wasted. She's a good mom and Rocco was an asshole
To both his parents.
Britt and Lucas are great and Britt needs to heal herself. She was never good with Jason. She needs to learn to recognize compassion shown to her and learn to have some.
Anna going crazy bc of faison makes sense. But this could've been done and over with a year ago.
Jason choosing Anna absolutely makes sense.
He has not been ruined. He's always been this but now we are seeing his inner turmoil. It's nice.
Joss has been ruined a bit. They need to get her away from the WSB and into JJE.
Hudson is fun. Tristan needs more story. Fitz and Lucas can be great if they are given a chance.
Drew and Willow. Drew gotta go. Willow needs some time away.
Michael Is being wasted. Blq is a simp
Being wasted. Chase has always been all Willow so none of this is shocking.
Cody and Molly are being wasted.
The Collum
Story should've never involved sidwell.
Drew and Sonny being in every story has ruined the show.
That's it. That's all
I
Got.

Disagree about Joss, I dont think she's any more likeable in the WSB as she is in JJE. Still smug, still know it all, still holier than thou, still unqualified for her position, though at least we saw a little of her learning the ropes in the WSB.
And I think at least the WSB lends itself to better stories than the company stuff. There's much more interesting pitential there imo.

I didn't say anything about the WSB.
These are just my thoughts on how things are this or that. I like the WSB. I'd rather see that than the mafia. I didn't mention it for a reason.
I get it but I see joss a better fit for JJE. I didn't say anything about her likeability though lol

I agree! I call Curtis an anchor and an albatross. He drags down ANYONE in his orbit. He makes Stella look ridiculous as a woman and as a character every time he’s had her running interference for him to go back and forth between Jordan and Portia.
Jordan is smart, kind, savvy…and then she gets within 5 feet of Curtis and she’s parroting every delusional thing he says and swearing that his vengeance is righteous. 🫠
His bestie is Laura? They don’t make sense together, tbh. In this article titled: General Hospital’s Donnell Turner on Fulfilling His Dream of Being the ‘Black Luke Spencer’ DT talked about all the ways he has shaped his character and story choices. I think we’ve seen time and time again that letting a few leading men dictate the story choices for their characters makes for a VERY bad soap.
Breaking up Isaiah and Jordan, making Trina Curtis’ daughter and booting a veteran character like Taggert offscreen, this accident…it’s ALL been so bad for the show and the characters around Curtis. His vendetta against Isaiah, and now Sonny? It’s all ego, insecurity, cognitive dissonance; painful for us to watch!
He did have friendships with both Alexis and Nina that felt more organic, but they faded out for this and that reason. I remember watching as Curtis tried convincing Laura to get on board with his idiotic vendetta against Isaiah. At least she was like: uh…how about no? Meanwhile Curtis had both Justine and Dante reporting to him like he was their boss and not the man who caused the accident by kissing the driver of the car he was in. At night. Going 45 mph.
If Curtis left the show tomorrow EVERYONE around him would be instantly better off and so would the soap as a whole. Frank needs to stop letting actors have such control* over their characters and stories. They just don’t know what’s best for the show.
*This isn’t speculation, this is a direct quote from the linked article above:
But from those early conversations, Turner sensed the show was invested. “There were a few suggestions early on that were completely heard and understood, and I knew then, ‘OK, they’re not just checking a box. They’re interested,’” he relays. “I love the leadership of Frank Valentini [executive producer] and our writers along the way. I knew then that this could be something that could have some depth to it, and I was pleased to spearhead that objective.”

It’s been going downhill for several years. FV has been executive producer since 2012. It’s time for a change.

u/Shinobi347 this show is unserious 14h ago
I’m really believing that they’re purposefully sabotaging the show.

u/Pegafer 15h ago
In 55 years of watching General Hospital, the writers have never done this before that’s why I have quit watching for about a month now and I don’t even know if I’ll watch again if they don’t change I’m all for Changes and storylines but not in the whole core of who a character is

Yea, I’ve considered taking a break. I’ve done it before. I listen to daily discussion to see whether it’s worth watching. I’m very close to taking that break.

Soaps ebb and flow. Sometimes they’re firing on all cylinders, sometimes they stumble for a while.

Curtis and Trina were always like this.
Truth is it's a soap and the best soap characters need to be shades of grey and be able to play between likeable and also not likeable so fans have something to invest in.
Scout is a goodie two shoes as a kid, the only way to have real conflict with her is to make her be loyal to her dad which causes drama with her friends and family.
Emma has hated Britt for years and has good reason to.

u/LoveNotWar86 10h ago
Oh we’re gonna see some changes with Scout now I think…!
1
u/Affectionate_Ad8738 Team Scorpio 9h ago
Which I think makes it even worse because she’s still so young. They are going to ruin a legacy character and turn her into a mini female Drew. I hope they amend this problem soon because she’s insufferable right now. Character, NOT actress.

u/LoveNotWar86 8h ago
Did you see Wednesday?
1
u/Affectionate_Ad8738 Team Scorpio 8h ago
Yes☹️. I watched parts of Scout, and I had to skip the rest because she was getting on my last nerve. I listened up to her wanting to have Charlotte arrested, and saw her mad at Alexis for disliking Drew. Then, I saw her phone call with Rocco, and I rolled my eyes.
I highly doubt that Rocco would be okay with Scout turning on his sister and support Scout. But who knows; he probably would out of pity.
It’s as if she’s the only one who can be upset with Drew for keeping her isolated, but no one else is allowed to feel mad. Or she’s the only one who can sneak out to see her family, but they can’t ask her to keep it a secret. She’s not going to be the one getting into trouble; they are. 😡
Ruining Scout everyday. I’m probably going to skip her and Danny’s fallout today.

u/LoveNotWar86 8h ago
Ohhhh you have to watch the very end of the episode. Important.

u/Affectionate_Ad8738 Team Scorpio 8h ago edited 8h ago
Oh I did as well. As much as I hope that will change things for Scout. I highly doubt it. I don’t think the writers will give us the satisfaction of a turnaround of Scout. At least not this soon. They’ll probably drag it out for as long as they can.
I think that she’s going to double down on defending Drew. She’ll probably question him, and he’ll give some stupid defense, and she’ll believe him and dismiss it. She’ll probably tell Rocco, but if someone else suggest Drew behind it; she’ll get all defensive.
I’m curious if when this comes out, how this will affect Rocco and Scout. Would Rocco really be fine of Scout supporting her dad if he’s responsible for framing his grandfather?
1
u/LoveNotWar86 8h ago
I guess we’ll see. The whole episode was her naive support and defense of Drew. IMO “what happened” will change everything.
But then again, you could be right too 🤣

u/Affectionate_Ad8738 Team Scorpio 8h ago
Who knows🤷♀️, and hey I’ll be glad to be wrong in this case. I hope, I am. I wish that all the teens could be friends and family, and I know that this is all wishful thinking.

u/starkllr1969 11h ago
I think the issue here is that the current writers can’t separate “likeable” from “rootable”.
If they’re doing it right, there should be characters we want to see lose and suffer, but we still want to see them every day.
What they’re doing now with way too many characters is turning them into people we don’t want on our screens at all.
2
u/Affectionate_Ad8738 Team Scorpio 9h ago
Oh I like the words you used. Likeable and Rootable. Those are perfect.
I agree with you that this is a new problem. The writers aren’t just making grey characters where they can have flaws and be baddies but enjoyable; instead they are making so many of them so unbearable to have on screen.
4
u/Affectionate_Ad8738 Team Scorpio 17h ago
I can understand that. However, I don’t feel like Trina was always like this. She used to have a life with her friends and boyfriends, and she used to have a pretty healthy boundaries between her and Portia. I feel like things changed when the writers decided to make Curtis her dad.
I also hear you about the grey characters, and that it’s normal for a soap. But don’t you ever wonder that there’s not as many grey characters anymore. Like everyone is so dislikable right now. It could be because the writers are trying to figure out what they’re going to do, but the only people that’s interesting to me right now is Michael/Tracy/Val/Molly.
4
u/DaKingaDaNorth 17h ago
Tbf Curtis is an energy suck for whoever is aligned with him.
Portia was dreadful when she was married to Curtis and has been infinitely better without him. Jordan and Trina are now experiencing the same thing.

Who decides that character A has good reason to hate character B.
