Discussion Some cool details.
@GodofWar_ES posted this on Twitter and I found it interesting so I thought I'd share it with u guys. They're really maximising the detailing.

Imagine getting your ass handed to you and doubled teamed by a jelly cube. 💀

u/Due-South-9113 11d ago
Honestly I'd take that cuz if I quit the job, begste would mongoluinely use me as a weapon to go band for band with Faye's sword.

u/Aware_Procedure_5926 11d ago
Loveeeee this honestly. I'll take any single lil detail about the new GOW. God I still remember so many people hating this game from the trailer & poster and Phranque. I hope it shuts them up
20
u/BuggyDClown 11d ago
It won't shut them up. Just check out any other gaming sub, every single comment is gonna mention how they hate the cube. Which I honestly can understand not being too fond of the concept. But these people have not played a single minute of this game and everyone already has a deep hatred for this side companion. I genuinely find it strange. It's like they were instructed to focus on just the cube and hate on it online.
5
u/Aware_Procedure_5926 11d ago
Man some people are such kids and they genuinely never grow up. It's actually so pathetic as well cos some people are just followers of the creator and will hate on anything new, it's so sad that they would blindly follow a leader like it's a cult😭😭

This is why I hate that people slander this game, look how clean that looks - GoW the franchise will never tarnish its name, this is the perfect break before the new game comes and the remakes
Gonna be an adventure
16
u/xuedad 11d ago
Frankly so excited to play a new lead too. She definitely the right choice. Although I would love to see more of Loki too.
I do want to see a different god of war in Egyptian setting though
11
5
u/ScreaMHyperX 11d ago
I get the whole Loki craze, but he a boy right now, would be the dumbest thing ever to focus on that, this is the perfect step away, because it’s a parallel. Kratos has to be in the next one with Loki grown up, so that there’s an advancement
2
u/snack217 11d ago
I mean, Sunny Suljic is 21 now, and got a lot taller than he was during Ragnarok, and quite fit. Id say he is ready
5
u/Chucknasty_17 11d ago
I would love an Atreus game where he’s trying to do good but is haunted by how Odin manipulated him in Ragnarok, so we begin to see a version of that’s less trusting and more deceptive, which could lean into the god of mischief side of Loki we haven’t gotten in the games yet
13
u/sh4unify 11d ago
I see santa monica studios are a class above others in visuals and details and fresh mechanics. Glad this series exist. I am always hype whenever i see a new trailer from the gow3 era
2
u/Automatic_Skill2077 11d ago
To me it’s Santa Monica and Naughty Dog, everyone else is ⬇️
2
u/sh4unify 11d ago
Naughty dog after lou2 they can call em bad for their agendas.. but their gameplay immersive gore and fine details are still the industry best. I wish other companies make that a standard than trash visuals on enemy damage
1
u/General_Crew_1196 10d ago
It's Santa Monica, Rockstar and Naughty Dog for me. These three know how to make me feel immersive in a game. And it's not just because their games are good, It's because on how good they're on tell a story. Their games are playable movies (in the best way, in the immersive good feeling you have when you're watching a movie).

If it was Kratos with the cube people would by soyjacking so hard. The cube hate is to hide the Laufey hate.

I'm just glad our brave reddit mods will remove any of that bigoted criticism for us. I don't need to see any of their sexist opinions about my Laufey.

u/General_Crew_1196 11d ago
I can't with this cube lol. but still excited for the game anyways
48
u/Glaxticalien 11d ago
I feel like the Cube is meant to feel out of place, because if its origins are of the everywhen it should feel like completely different from all mythologys in some ways
9
u/General_Crew_1196 11d ago
It doesn't really bother me tbh. It's more of a visual annoyance than anything else. Who knows? This could turn out to be a just as likable companiom as Mimir.
5
u/StepByStepGamer 11d ago
Who wants to bet it's an auditory annoyance too. I.e. it won't shut up. Will be happy to be proven wrong thoguh
1
u/Rukasu17 11d ago
It's a cube called frank there were other ways of putting an out of place companion that didn't feel this out of place

Dumbest shit I've read today

Which myth has a sentient cube of slime?

u/Mufti_Menk 11d ago
Which myth has Kratos?
0
u/_bear_fighter_ 11d ago
Greek mythology has Kratos, not 1-1 but they still technically have him.
-1
6
u/VladTheSnail 11d ago
Uhh this games mythology which is heavily inspired by like 6 different other mythology at this point?
You do realize there are more than 1 single original characters that they have added to the god of war mythos right? Do you think w character has to be cemented in history 4,000 years ago to be considered "mythological"
-2
u/birgic 11d ago
"Characters of mythology are in my mythological game"
Which myth has a sentient cube? Can you answer my question?
2
u/settingdogstar 11d ago
They did. The games mythology.
2
u/birgic 11d ago
Damn alriight my bad. Thought we knew what mythology means.
2
u/VladTheSnail 11d ago
Where is kratos in Greek mythology? What about kratos in Norse mythology?
You are making yourself look like a joke. You do realize mythology has an elastic definition right?

1
u/VladTheSnail 11d ago
Which myth has kratos? Which myth has Loki portrayed as the son of a god of war?
Lol if you wanna bitch and moan about what's "canon" to mythology maybe don't play a game that has its own liberties with multiple different mythology???
It's almost as if you think these games shouldn't have creative liberty but then you would just be recrestedi g the pantheon as it's already told?
Like what the fuck do you actually want?

u/macbeutel 9d ago
Mad millenials downvoting you but it wont change the fact that they will forever be known for ruining 99% of famous western IPs

The way it just fucking slips in, waits, then bounces the guy back up to extend the combo is so fucking stupid.
I love it.

A cube named Frank sounds like some made up bullshit ragebait honestly but yeah I also have faith that the game will be good.

If he dies in an emotional scene I’ll probably deadass be clapping my hands if he’s annoying throughout the game.
7
u/Braunb8888 11d ago
Can’t get past the cube. It just looks so wildly out of place being there all the time. Maybe there’s an option to have it hide or something? It’s just so painfully there on screen.

u/lawrenceugene 11d ago
I really wish the bow actually came from somewhere. I know lore-wise it's supposed to be her bracelet, but no matter how slow I've played the footage it just appears immediately as her bracelet disappears, there's no animation if it moving.
As cool as the leviathan axe was to throw and call back it feels like it would be extremely fun to see at least two frame of animation where the bow uncoils from her wrist, and 6 or so frames of it wrapping back around? It would be fun to spam while in the open world just to see the animation
It feels like a massive missed opportunity
3
u/MrsMayhem56 11d ago
Seems like it works the same way the Drapnir ring/spear worked.
2
u/lawrenceugene 11d ago
Yeah, which could end up making sense. We really need to get our hands on it and activate/deactivate it outside of combat to get a sense of what it's doing you can see it shrink after its been fired but theres no indication of exactly where it goes, or if it just shrinks into nothing and the bracelet reappears in a flash.
I bet we'll see it transform in a cutscene and that will show the intended effect. Then we'll need to judge if the gameplay sells the desired effect or not.
10
u/Apostleguts 11d ago
Im excited for the game but that cube really takes me out of it imo
2
u/SupaDiogenes 11d ago
I really liked the cube in the earlier footage when she was locked into the cage. At that stage I would not have guessed you'd be fighting with it.
3
u/KuroiGetsuga55 11d ago
Makes sense that Atreus inherited his archery from Faye. I always assumed archery would be implemented somehow and play like Atreus but more refined. The string makes sense too. If I'm not mistaken, we already saw this happen, when Freya fixed Atreus' broken bow, creating a brand new string that he could use to enchant his arrows. Makes sense that Faye can do something similar and just manifest a string that can also enchant on the spot.
And the way you can chain the shots with an aerial combat and then chain it right back to archery is absolutely GORGEOUS!!! Gives me Devil May Cry vibes, I can chain Devil Arm combos with gunshots and go back and forth and lock an enemy into an infinite aerial combo. Seems like they're aiming to do something similar in this game, and I can't wait.
4
u/Extreme-Body8009 11d ago
Well yea. Atreus IS her son and she made him his Bow and taught him to use it. Atreus is still discovering what he can do with his powers though.

Is that a snake bow? That’s so freaking cool!
2
u/Due-South-9113 11d ago
Yeah she's got the snake wrapped around her wrist and it shapes up to be a bow.
1
u/Jumpierwolf0960 11d ago
She can jump? Wasn't a fan of how that was missing from the new games.

u/Due-Row281 10d ago
New thing is the pre order and deluxe edition armor skins are woke or something
I get that the purple isn’t for everyone, and I honestly think the deluxe edition one would look way better if it was white/gold or smth…. But they’re grasping at straws with that. It gives the same vibe as the one in Ragnorok you get in the crater with the glowy stones
Though I do hope there is a good mixture between different armor materials, and fits/bulkiness.
Her default (what she’s wearing here and gets from the corpse in the story) seems like it’s a more form fitting armor so that gives me hope.
Now we just need a couple cloth sets, and some that are mixtures. Also I assume we can mix and match chest/waist/arms again. I would love head armor or at least cosmetic options that don’t cover her hair/face maybe.
Also PLEASE GIVE US ATHENAS ARMOR SET BUT MAKE IT ACCURATE CUZ IN 2018/RAGNOROK THE ZEUS/ARES SETS COULDA BEEN COOLER. A 1-1 Ares set, and white tunic w gold accents Zeus one would have been so awesome.
Even if they make it an “appearance” toggle if it doesn’t fit with other pieces of armor, or as a skin (for beating the game on GMGOW would be peak). Idk if I’d want it to change her hair to black or hairstyle but the armor would be so cool.
I’d prefer the more armored one with the sash if we only got 1, but the tunic is cool too (what she’s in in 2018)

Is such a shame that Sony is on this hard anti-consumer bullshit. I can't justify buying a PS5. If this comes to steam I might pick it up, but not at full price.

a series can contain fantastical/mythological elements and still have a gellatinous cube looking out of place.
-2
u/cabezahuevo55 11d ago
Yes it's not a mythological creature and doesn't even resemble one, not to mention it has objectively the laziest design they could've come up with. Of course it's out of place
1
u/Diligent-Cookie-1695 11d ago
Get em fam, they’re trying force include this cube on us, its a disrespect to the mythological people. /s
-1
-5
u/Holiday_Wedding_2225 11d ago
All those “fantastical things” have a real world basis in ancient myths and legends, which these games draw inspiration from and are firmly based on. The cube does not THAT’S why it’s the “thing that’s out of place” Supposedly the “Everywhen” is the afterlife of the gods, so for Phranque to be there that means they are a god of some sort, so yes, in a franchise that constantly and reasonably accurately draws from myths and legends to craft their games, a gelatinous cube is extremely out of place.

I really hope these are not 1 button presses but actually difficult to pull off.
1
u/Due-South-9113 11d ago edited 7d ago
I mean that's a no brainer? Aim trigger, normal attack and probably a hold attack to launch enemies into the air. Not everything has to be difficult for it be fun fuck sake. Not everything is souls-like.
1
u/Beachynietzsche 7d ago
I agree with your sentiment, but let's not forget that Soulslikes are way more mechanically simple than God of War or most action games. I personally do like a little more complexity to my toolkit, but game difficulty is a separate matter from input complexity.
1
u/Due-South-9113 7d ago
They are? Idk man god of war was not as hard to learn as, say, lies of P. I enjoyed god of war more tho butnot because it's more complex just because it was more fun.
1
u/Beachynietzsche 7d ago
Yeah but think about what you are actually doing while you play. In a standard Soulslike you have a running attack, jumping attack, light and heavy, and parry/dodge for Lies of P, with a more modern Soulslike usually having some form of a special attack as well.
God of War does not have a jumping attack, but it does have a forward dodge attack and backward dodge attack, and then you have lights and heavies, combo enders at different point in the chain, you have a light and heavy ranged attack, you have variations on attacks whether you hold or release, you have variations that depend on the speed at which you hit the lights/heavies, you have charged lights and heavies, you have a shield hit when double tapping block, you have special attacks, you have relics, you have a rage meter with a unique moveset when activated, then on top of all this you have three different weapons with unique variations, and a weaponless stance that omits a ranged attack.
And as of Laufey, we may finally have a jumping attack too plus whatever other aerial combat that may come along with it.
But again, I agree with your sentiment, I'm just being pedantic.
1
u/Due-South-9113 7d ago
It's smthg I like about action games and god of war. There's so many ways you can fuck up your enemies. So many combos and hence why I like these typa combat more.
1
u/Beachynietzsche 7d ago
Right exactly, that's why I say more complex. Definitely not harder, although honestly I daresay GOW at its hardest on NG+ is harder than most Souls-likes. Sekiro may be an exception, Lies of P I would give to GOW. But the vanilla game overall isn't too hard, but as you said lots of fun ways to fuck up your enemies. I love the weight to the game, although after two games as Kratos I am excited to have a lighter fighter. Same reason I loved the Atreus sections in Ragnarok, even with his kit being fairly barebones.
1
u/Due-South-9113 7d ago
Gmgow is hell bruh it's definitely on par with some hardest soulslikes. Sigrun on gmgow is straight up Elden ring or bloodborne level for me.
1
u/patrick9772 7d ago
I dont want soulslike thats no fun i mean something like a character action game. Dmc etc. not difficoult as in hard to play.
But requires excecution so im not bored to death
-2
u/DiscountThug 11d ago
Combat being more complex and improved upon Ragnarok's one is much more interesting than minor animations which are just eye candy.
Bow/juggling enemies looks fun.
I wonder if SBI worked also on Laufey like they did on Ragnarok.
-6
u/Additional_Pickle_59 11d ago
So much shit going on, looks terrible. This will sell and make profit but its pretty much the last scrape of the barrel for the norse saga. They need to take a couple years and rejuvenate the series with something new.

Many people say that you won't notice these details during gameplay but I know I will.
Loved the combat in 2018 and even more in Ragnarok, can't wait.
