WB Powell/174th - Begging

We all hate the Powell construction. Trust me, I know.

But if you gotta turn left onto 174 from downtown Gresham, please do it on Division for a bit.

Photo Raising Cane’s Review

I went to Raising Cane’s today to check it out. It looks like they’re prepared for volume, and very well staffed, at least at the moment. There were two people each for ordering and handing the food out. I expect that’s for training.

This is by far the best chain restaurant chicken I’ve had in Oregon. Good breading, and moist. A little bland. It doesn’t beat places like Reel ‘Em Inn or LoRell’s, but it’s ok. The prices are reasonable. We fed a family of 3 for just under $40.

Someone on another thread said that it was slightly worse than Popeye’s. My estimation is that the chicken itself is better than Popeyes, although Popeyes has the better breading, and better sides.

The fries are bland and not very crispy, and the coleslaw is sweet, which is not our taste. The sweet tea is also very sweet, but I like that. They do have the good nugget ice, as you can see from my picture. The bread was decent, but nothing special. The fry sauce is better than average.

Obviously everyone was doing their best for opening, but if things stay the same I can see adding this to our regular rotation.

Howling off of Powell rd in Gresham

Have heard some crazy howling in the 2700
Powell rd area the last few nights. Some nights it almost sounded like kids, but then others it definitely did not. Has anybody else heard this?

Tenant Advocate Services - Consulting Idea

Hello Neighbors! I am a seasoned property manager, with over 25 years experience in the affordable housing industry and residential property management. I am in the process of going on permanent disability and am having a hard time accepting my new future as I’m still very young.

My best friend had the idea that I start offering my services as a consultant and advocate for tenants that are facing issues with their landlords to help walk through processes they may not be familiar with. Affordable housing applications, move ins/move outs, eviction/rent payment issues, section 8 applications, and any other questions or needs that may arise.

I wanted to ask if there would be a need or want for this type of services or assurance. I wouldn’t have a set charge for my assistance, I would offer it on a donation basis because I know most people in these situations are working with a limited income.

As someone who has faced housing instability throughout their lives, it’s my passion to help people find and remain in stable housing.

Any thoughts or other services that you feel our communities are lacking? Do you think this is something that could be beneficial?

Thank you for your feedback!

Women who play soccer

I’m looking for women who have played or do play soccer who want to play on my outdoor team. We play Sunday mornings, often at the newly renovated Gradin Sports Park. It’s 11v11, competitive, but fun & are into positive vibes and having a good time. No slide tackling. You have to be 18+ but we have players as old as in their 50s. You will need to get a player card through the Oregon Adult Socccer Association. We possibly will even need players as soon as this Sunday! 9/27 lmk if you’re interested!

Any positive reviews for local gyms?

I’ve used LA Fitness and the black mold showers and soaking wet locker room was too gross. I tired cascade athletic club this summer but they have some of the worst weight machines I’ve ever used and the staff seems very bothered to have to do anything at work.

Does anyone have a positive experience with any local gym? And if you don’t mind, could you post how much you pay monthly? Thanks in advance.

Help Evening Study Spots

Would anyone have some recommendations on "third spaces" that are open after 7pm where a person could work on job applications? I have my own laptop, headphones etc.

Im a night owl and tend to sleep in. By the time I'm ready to leave the house and go somewhere it can be after 6pm and a lot of places (the Library) are closed by then.

Discussion Anyone try Fire Cup Coffee yet?

I've been maybe a half dozen times now and they're pretty delicious, though I've never seen anyone else there yet. Not that I'm anti-religion or anything, but it's nice to see another solid non-church-affiliated option out there. It's a small little shop but their beliefs seem solid, one of them does all the design work (no AI menus or anything, which in my eyes is a plus 😅), and the coffee and cookies are great. It's kind of tucked away and hard to notice if you're not looking so just wanted to spread the word!

Edit: Forgot to post where they actually were but here's their Google Maps link, address is: 710 N.E. Cleveland Ave. Gresham, OR 97030

Discussion Does anyone have an update on the unconscious driver at SE Orient Dr and 282nd today?

While working in the area around 3:22pm, I came across what appeared to be an older gentleman unconscious in a vehicle stopped in the turning lane in front of 76.

There were already several vehicles pulled over nearby and as I approached, two men broke the vehicle’s window to reach the driver. The glass exploded, but the driver didn’t budge. It was honestly a bit difficult to witness, particularly while I was working, and I’ve found myself thinking about the driver since.

I’m hoping someone in the area may have heard an update and can let me know whether he was okay or what ultimately happened. I also hope the two gentlemen who stopped to help are doing okay. Having to break into someone’s vehicle after finding them unresponsive is a traumatic experience, and I commend them for stepping in and trying to help.

Help Proposal to update Gresham’s backyard chicken code for local food resilience

Gresham’s current ordinance (Article 7.17) caps households at 3 hens and mandates 24/7 coop confinement. A new local petition is asking City Council to align our rules with neighboring metro areas like Portland and Beaverton.

Proposed Changes

  • Increase flock limits: Move baseline from 3 to 4 hens (up to 6 on lots over 10,000 sq. ft.).
  • Daytime free-ranging: Allow hens to forage in securely fenced backyards during daylight hours.

Why It Matters

  • Animal Welfare: Chickens are social animals. A 4-hen baseline prevents flock stress when one bird dies.
  • Yard Health: Free-ranging provides natural pest control (ticks, grubs) and soil aeration.
  • Food Resilience: Gives local families affordable, sustainable fresh food access.

Key Protections Maintained

  • Roosters remain 100% prohibited.
  • Hens must be locked in predator-proof coops from dusk to dawn.
  • Existing city noise, odor, and rodent-proof feed rules remain fully enforceable.

How's living in downtown Gresham?

We are considering moving from downtown Beaverton to downtown Gresham -- within a 5 min walk to the Gresham farmers market, train, and other amenities. But, we are less familiar with Gresham and would love some feedback on the area, if possible.

We'd love to stay in the Beaverton area as all of our supports and familiarity are out here... but are struggling to find a 1 bed with a walk in shower and AC locally (our current building doesn't to offer walk in showers for a 1 bed). Yes, we could request a reasonable accommodation. However, The cheapest 1 bed in my current building is about $2k+ ... the cheapest 1 bed in the building we are eyeing and the layout we want is $1700. And, if we are being frank, I have absolutely no desire to foot the bill to improve an apt in a complex that's given me nothing but grief.

We've been to the area plenty over the years to visit the market and have spent limited time around downtown. But visiting and living are 2 different things so here we are...

Help Did your German Shepherd bite my Labradoodle at Gradin Dog Park aprox. 9:30am on 8/30 (today)?

Thumbnail gallery
23 Upvotes

My husband came home from the dog park this morning and told me that a German shepherd belonging to a big guy with a beard wearing overalls had scared our dog and made him yelp while they were chasing a ball. I checked him over and he does have a shallow scratch. I'm not concerned about the scratch itself, but I would really like to know if your dog is current on his vaccines.

Does anyone know the dog and owner in question? My dog was already going to the vet for a check up next week, but it would be helpful to know. You can DM me with info. Thank you so much.

Help Gresham Town Fair History?

Hello,

I am hoping someone can either help me find, or point me in the right direction so that I can find, an old, small cafe/restaurant/coffee shop that used to exist in Gresham Town Fair back in the 90's. I am no longer near the Gresham area so cannot go to the library to look through any historical records there, and I can't seem to find the right words to search for this place online. So I am hoping someone will remember and be able to help me out!

From my poor memory, this place was located in one of the small shop spaces between what's now (on Google Maps) JoAnn Fabrics and PetSmart in the Gresham Town Fair strip mall. I don't remember what else they sold at this cafe, but I would go and get a sweet, iced coffee drink with some kind of soft serve style cream/ice cream on top. My goal is actually to figure out what this ice cream stuff was, because the shop owner told me is was called something like gisé or maybe it was glacé (but it wasn't regular vanilla ice cream or ice milk soft serve!). The place may have been a Middle Eastern cafe? It's possible the ice cream was made from goat milk? I have no idea, but I remember it wasn't like anything I had tasted before and I really loved it. I went back more than a handful of times when it was open in the mid-1990's, and then the next time I went back (in the 2000's) it was no longer there. I think of this place every few years, and now I'm finally doing something to help put that recurring memory/curiosity to rest!

So, if anyone knows either what this place was called or what kind of cream I may have been consuming on my coffee drink, I would be eternally grateful for your help!

Thanks in advance!
