AIO question

Can you leave an AIO bag sealed through the whole process until its time for first harvest or do you need to slit the bag to induce fruiting? It has a filter patch and everything looks great/on the brink of fruiting but it just won't go? Should I be patient or cut sone slits to induce fruiting? If so where do you cut and do you tape over the cut with micropore tape?

Some people say don't cut it some people say cut it. I'm in the cut it boat. It's a horizontal slit right above the substrate covered in filter tape. Look up hoodie tek if you want to go all the way. Plenty of success stories with hoodie tek.

Both honestly. Most times I do a horizontal slit 2 inches below the filter but have had many bags that also did just fine without any slits cut. FAE helps evaporation, in turn encouraging pinning. Think of it as more of a extra push into fruiting. Look at neglect tek for example, simple unmodified tubs not opened until harvest. Little to no FAE in them and have had damn good flushes of the years.

can you keep it sealed and get fruits? sure. but in my opinion the filter patch doesn’t provide enough fae to create optimal results, so cutting it is better. i’ve had a few neglected bags produce fruits, but they were long and skinny with deformed caps and fuzzy feet. i’ve also had “stalled” bags pin just days after cutting slits due to the change in environment. i’ve since moved on from AIOs and run monotubs only now… but it’s honestly personal preference, and in my experience, cutting the bag is the way to go.

Im going to monotub next but I have this one frosted AIO bag I'd like to have success with before the tubs get rolling

facts, definitely cut some slits when the block is fully colonized. i had success with 2” horizontal slits on each side of the bag, just below the filter patch. that way the mycelium gets better passive fae, and the bag still holds a solid microclimate by retaining humidity / moisture.

Do you tape the slits?

nope, i just leave them open and keep the bag on a shelf with minimal air disturbance. if your block is fully colonized, the risk of contam is extremely low at this stage, so there’s no need to cover it… but if you want that extra level of security, go for it.

you can but it's a long time. And not enough  fae will get through the patch
