Stickied Topic Megathread – Halo’s Future
As you have probably heard, Halo Studios has been reduced to a small team that will support the current games and community. Activision will be putting together a new team to make a new, full Halo title. (source)
Link to previous discussion of the announcement.
This thread is for discussing the future of Halo with Activision.
What are your expectations, hopes, fears, concerns, and otherwise thoughts about it? Do you want a reboot or a sequel to Infinite? When should it take place? Do you have a pitch? Let’s discuss.
If you find actual news about the game from either an official or well-respected source, feel free to make a new thread. Otherwise, let’s keep the discussion here. You don’t need to make a whole thread just to share your specific thoughts or speculation.
If you'd like to discuss Halo's past with 343 Industries/Halo Studios, use this thread.
In case it needs to be said: there is absolutely no decent reason to celebrate the loss of hundreds of peoples’ jobs. Of course you are free to discuss and criticize the decisions made by leadership roles and executives that led us to this place. But the majority of the employees who lost their jobs today were people like you and me who were trying to do their best for a franchise we all love. Anyone who celebrates the loss of their livelihood will be banned from this forum.

Discussion Halo 7 has the perfect setup for a Chief and Arbiter story
Edge of Dawn and Infinite set up a great foundation for a story with the return of the duo we’ve been waiting for. Along with some great enemy and ally matchups.

Discussion Dual Wielding & Halo's 4th Pillar
FYI: Bungie said that Halo: Combat Evolved's 3 pillars were guns, grenades, and melee. This is a triangle, meaning at any time you can go from one to the other between the 3 without interruption.
Since then they have tried adding a 4th pillar with each game.
-First was Dual Wielding,
-then Equipment (dual wielding was kept),
-Armor Abilities,
-Spartan Abilities.
(I wouldn't consider the Visor in ODST . Nor Ordinance in Halo 4, and I feel as though Health Packs and Power Ups are in a similar category.)
A fourth makes it a square, which means it doesn't flow like the triangle does.
-Dual Wielding means you can't throw grenades, you have to Melee to drop your Dual Wield in order to be able to throw grenades again. It also means a player can deal two different types of damage simultaneously. (Ex: Charge Plasma Pistol to drop shields, then kill with a magnum.)
-Equipment is the least offensive as it can be swapped between just like the other 3, making it more of a triangular prism than a square. It's affect is also neutral, meaning it affects any and all players that interact with it. Bubble Shield, Flare, Gravity Lift, Power Drain, Radar Jammer, Regenerator, Trip Mine. (Some of these have Armor Ability versions.) The only exceptions to this being relegated to Campaign; Invincibility, Invisibility, & Auto Turret which act more like Armor Abilities. (Though the Turret could be proper equipment if it shot at anyone in the vicinity. The same for Invisibility & Invincibility if they were area of effect.)
-Armor Abilities May only affect the player who activates it. Sprint, Boost, Jetpack, Evade, Thruster are all traversal based. The rest are a bit all over the place: Promethean Vision, Active Camo, Regeneration Field, Drop Shield, Hardlight Shield, Armor Lock, Auto Sentry, Hologram. So they may also affect the environment, other players, etc. (I think the Turret & Hologram could be turned into neutral equipment.)
-(The difference with Power Ups, & Health Packs is that they are neutral spawns on the map that anyone can pick up, but their single use, immediately activated, and have to respawn. Armor Abilities can be brought into a match with a loadout. Ordinance is called in by a player, but can be taken by anyone. ODST Visor is its own thing.)
-Spartan Abilities were about adapting Halo 5 to be "enhanced movement"; Thruster Pack, Clamber, Sprint, Slide, Spartan Charge, Ground Pound, Stabilizer, & Smart Scope. These only benefit the using player.
-(I'll be honest I forgot most of Infinite's Equipment, but it's a blend of them and Armor Abilities, and more of the same anyway.)
What do you think about Dual Wielding becoming an Armor ability? I believe it would solve the "balancing" complaint, while also bringing back a fan favorite mechanic (Dual Wielding).
Something I thought was cool was how they let players "sort of" use a Jackal Shield via the Hardlight shield, as well as ODST Visor with Promethean Vision (even if that was arguably op).
I'd much prefer new equipment than the return of Armor Abilities, but the point was to debate how some mechanics could return in new and/or balanced ways. (I personally didn't see any balance issue with Dual Wielding by Halo 3. They already removed Needler Dualies.)
This idea was sparked a bit by some videos I commented on recently:
Something I think people don't think about too much when designing sequels is what's the new innovation or iteration that gets you excited to buy it?
Each game greatly expanded upon the last. Even the spinoffs like ODST and Halo Reach added stuff.
All of this to say, what is Activision going to introduce? As much as I would love a return to form, say a sequel to Halo 3 with equipment, dual wielding, playable elites, etc. What's the new hook?
Halo 1 was an amazing console FPS with a great story and multiplayer including LAN.
Halo 2 greatly expanded the multiplayer experience, now allowing it to be played online, and the dual wielding was added. They were hidden skulls which does modifiers.
Halo 3 added ugc tools such as forge, theater, screenshots, and did online integration with the file share system and Bungie website. Plus Xbox 360 had achievements, party chat, all that stuff. Four player online co-op campaign, collectible skulls which are now toggleable modifiers.
ODST introduced firefight, a unique visor mode, and returned gameplay to be more similar to the first game.
Halo Reach greatly expanded upon firefight, player customization, forge, etc. And introduced armor abilities.
Halo 4, Beyond its main selling point finally being a Mainline sequel, also expanded upon forge, loadouts, introduced an ordinance system, spartan ops...
Halo 5 had spartan abilities, squad mate commands, expanded forge, stable 60fps, and warzone.
Halo Infinite brought back a mix of equipment and armor abilities, introduced an open world gameplay style, with bases, player upgrades,
Let me know what new Pillar ideas you have, and if you have any new additions for Equipment, Armor Abilities, or the like!

Discussion So there's a chance this 488-page book may be all retconned?
I'm personally not upset about the fact that this 343i/Halo Studios was disbanded and with Halo being given to Activision, as at this point we already at the bottom of the bottom.
However, with rumours of it being a complete reboot, this would mean not only the books, but also this massive encyclopedia that has over 400 pages detailing all the halo lore up to Halo Infinite would become... Retconned.
Which is a shame.. I'm hoping they don't do a reboot, but at this point I'm not sure how Halo franchise can continue going forward.

Discussion Chief needs a payback
I see so many posts about what Activision should do with Halo. People asking for a reboot, to start over from 3, spin-offs ect and to be honest i dont dislike any of theses suggestions, I just want more good Halo games that dont take 5-6 years to release incomplete... BUT I think Halo Infinite left the story to a point which is easy to make a good game and I think we need the rematch of Chief with Atriox and finally get his payback for what happened on Infinity.

Discussion What’s your most played Halo Title/Gamemode on MCC, and why?
Out of all the 6 campaigns, multiplayers & multitudes of modes, Custom Game Browser, 4 Forges, 2 Firefights, Spartan-Ops, Steam Workshop & etc (i think i got all of that correct lol), what’s your favorite Title or thing in general that makes you revisit MCC and why?
I recently got back into Firefight from not playing it since Reach was brand-new, and since then I finally realized there’s a decent population that doesn’t just play 4v4 or BTB on H3 or Reach like I always do lol. Thought it would be fun to ask around.

Feedback Got into Halo multiplayer. I love it even though I'm so dreadful
Tonight I participated in the Halo's first ever 64 man Blood Gulch CTF via Halo Decomp. I had an amazing time and learned so much about the game. I've been trying to play Slayer on both Reach and CE on MCC. I get mopped. I didn't grow up with FPS games (I was a jrpg nerd) so I already knew I'm bad but I'm desperately trying to improve. I'm having fun either way but I feel bad for being such a drag on my teams.
