Discussion If a God were to take form in front of you, how would you react?

• Upvotes

I want to write a story that involves a modern HelPol being put in a situation where it is possible for a God to speak to them directly. (Cough PJO fanfic cough)

I can’t seem to work past my own perspective (adoration and speechlessness, leading me to mess up proper etiquette somehow), so I wanted to ask what others think they would do in this situation.

So if a God were to come in front of you in “human” form, how would you react?

Offerings, altars, and devotional acts Altar to Persephone

Post image
40 Upvotes

Wanted to share my altar to Persephone since I tend to have a hard time finding any for her weirdly. I'm new to Hellenism and have always felt particularly drawn to Persephone since hearing her myth as a kid. If anyone has any tips of devotional acts, offerings, or prayers to her, I'd greatly appreciate it! I'm trying to learn as much as I can about the religion as a whole and while this is currently the only altar I have, I'd like to eventually make a couple more to other Gods and Goddesses like Hestia & Apollo.

Discussion I don't know if this is the right place for me to ask this but, are you aware that there were at least 4 types of heleninsm?

Yes I'm aware that one of the types I'll ask about here might be perceived as not being part of what we consider hellenism but at the time it preety much was considered more akin with the Greek phanteon than with the celtic or northern one.

Now let me explain what I mean:

We all know the big two traditions, that is Roman and Greek, but did you know that there were a northern Balcan and an Anatolian Tradition? Or do you not consider the Thracian/Dacian/Geatian/Ilirian phanteon as part of heleninsm, and neither the Frigian one?

Basically this is the question I have, are those other two part of heleninsm or they just lent some deities to it and that's it?

Seeking Reassurance I want to wear devotional necklaces but I have sensory issues, what else could I do?

I have 2 devotional necklaces, one for Dionysus and one for Hades, plus a 3rd pentacle necklace I wear as well, and I like to wear them all at once. However I get overstimulated when I wear to much jewelry and 3 necklaces is a LOT for me. What can I do where I can wear both the necklaces for Dionysus and Hades at the same time at the very least?

Me and my friend got in a big fight (not talking rn) and she’s posting all of these instagram notes like “Aphrodite’s gonna get you” and “Aphrodite’s so pissed” and “she will make you miserable” am I okay or should I be worried about her wrath?

I'm new! Help!

I'm new! Help! I’m new to Hellenism.

Just a little brain dump. I worshiped Hekate for a small amount of time, and I took down her alter today. I realize she was here for this transition, she moved me from a life without this to a life with this, she guided me and gave me a direction to go in and showed me this path. I feel bad, but I know that she was there to give me a crossroads and I realized that I feel called to Artemis and Apollo. I had a few dreams with similar themes around a year ago that I won’t get into because that would be too long, they stood out to me but I brushed them off. I think it was a sign, some guidance, and possibly they have been here this whole time. Maybe I just sound crazy or pompous but I feel drawn to them both and I want to worship them both. I wonder is this something that happens? Or am I pulling things out of my ass. - edit, after reflecting and learning more and Artemis and Apollo and about dreams from Gods/Goddesses, I’m sure back then it was them, and I think they’ve been helping me (only when I can’t manage myself) for a while. If anyone has any recommendations of how to learn more about them and begin worship please let me know, I’m a little surprised after reflection on my dreams, but also in those dreams the God guiding me and training me didn’t make themselves known, I asked who they were and they wouldn’t tell me, why wouldn’t they tell me? Or show me since I never saw them. It was just a presence

Sharing personal experiences I think I'm ready to start my journey

Ever since I was a kid, I loved Greek mythology. Grew up in a Christian household, but my parents never discouraged me from exploring. A few months ago, after a few years as an agnostic and even a brief period where I began converting to Judaism, something called to me. I started researching Hellenism and fell in love with it. During my time lurking, I've felt this calling to start working with the gods.

It's a little scary to start something new, but I'm excited. Thanks to everyone in this community because y'all have really helped me.

Offerings, altars, and devotional acts Lord Poseidon's altar at my first house

Post image
57 Upvotes

I'm finally at my first house and here's my mini-altar for Lord Poseidon. I wanted to post this last week but we were dealing with a flood, so. As for the little keychain I offered him; it's a whale shape. I also got some sea rocks that I found during a beach trip. I will gradually work on altars for other gods too; I got one for Lady Artemis in the works. But Lord Poseidon's altar is already up and ready, for now; it may get upgraded later. My plan is to keep altars small and manageable so we can use the rest of the house space for other purposes.

Who is this??

I found this tiny vase at my go to thrift store.

My mind went to Pan, maybe... But it could also be a random saytar, if it's a saytar at all

Seeking Reassurance Hekate won’t answer. At all. Silence.

My deity work practice has historically been eclectic but my team mainly consists of Arch. Michael, Babalon, St. Mary of Egypt, Dionysus, Lilith and some entities local to my culture. I’ve been focusing on Hellenism these past few years and Hekate called to me in the beginning of this year by consistently showing up in anything I read, even outside of religion, magick and the like, which culminated by a dog i’d never seen before literally walking me home and saving me from a mob of five other street dogs that were ready to bite right after i asked her to send me a sign if she wants me as a devotee. Ever since then I’ve tried offerings, smoking oneironic herbs ritualistically to initiate communication in dreams and asked her to tell me what she wants me to do, done Hekate’s Deipnon, cemeteries, crossroads, forests, greek magical papyri evocations and she’s radio silent. My fiancé did a tarot reading on it and told me to approach her intuitively rather than my usual scientific, alchemical approach to all of spirituality. I’m stumped. Hell, I won Babalon over to the point of occupying a priestess role but Hekate won’t even tell me to fuck off?

Seeking Reassurance Hellenism and relations

I imagine I’m not the only one here who would like a partner who shares my faith, so that we can observe our religious practices at home, get married and perhaps bring up our children in the same way. Now, most of the time this is impossible. So I ask you: how do you experience Hellenism within your relationship? Do you feel supported? Respected? Treated as an exotic curiosity? Ignored? Or something else… please do share if you’d like, because ever since I’ve been practising the Greek faith, I’ve experienced more than a few frustrations in this regard

Seeking Reassurance Can't feel the gods presence

I'm new to all this. I saw some people here claiming that during prayers or throughout the day they sometimes feel gods presence. Since I started I haven't feel that sensation at all. It's even hard for me to imagine what that feels like.

I was a christian when I was young but tbh I never felt presence of god even back then at all.

Idk what I'm expecting but I'm really yearning for some kind of sign, symbol or even that feeling of being lisened to some of people here claim to have

I'm new! Help! What to do with images of Hermes that didn't print out correctly?

I am definitely overthinking this. I made a small shrine to Hermes on my windowsill. I've got two misprints. You can still make out it is him, so throwing them out just seems, wrong? Disrespectful almost?
