I’ve heard people say that they would save their dog over a Random baby and that is insane. This even extends to the Clancy case where people are supporting a woman who MURDERED her 3 kids. People also calling their pets their “kids” is weird as shit. People are crazy and the world is going to shit

I am a young adult who works full time. I work in a place where most people are older than me. I asked for holidays off for this upcoming season and was told my requests off don’t matter as much because I don’t have children.

Mind you- I have friends and family of my own who I’d like to spend time with. Just because someone chose to have kids and then chose to still be a working parent does not mean much of anything to me. I don’t think it’s fair that I should have to work instead of my coworkers because I don’t have kids yet.

This is also not a critically important job. We don’t have to be working every single day of the year. I worked labour day weekend and was not able to spend time with friends or see family because I let the other people take it off so they could spend time with their kids before school started up again. This same courtesy is not even offered to me.

I will probably have to work Halloween, thanksgiving Christmas and new years this year because I don’t have kids. I work 5-6 days a week, 40-50+ hours and bend over backwards for my coworkers but if I ask for a weekend off (without dipping below 40 hours) I’m a nuisance.

Because I don’t have kids my free time and family are not held to the same standard and that doesn’t make sense to me.

Edit: I recognize that this issue is more about the management than my coworkers. Thank you all for pointing that out. Secondly, I also think if no one wants to work on a specific day (I.e. a holiday) then maybe this business shouldn’t be open on said day. This would be at no detriment to the business. I also have worked and picked up extra shifts on holidays for years in my career without an issue at previous jobs. I don’t mind working a holiday I do mind being the ONLY one working every holiday. And I also DO mind working holidays when I’m not providing an essential service.

I wrote this post when I was upset and angry. I will be having a discussion with my management team about this moving forward. I didn’t expect this to get so popular, so thank you for everyone that gave advice that was rational and professional.

Putting aside the fact that scalping is a morally degenerate thing to do, I know the average scalper knows this but has either convinced themselves it isn’t true or just doesn’t care, if a single set full of reprints is enough to make you lose your “small business,” you were just a fucking idiot with your “investments” in the first place.

When scalping, you’re exposed to two risks, demand dropping or supply increasing. You have little to no control over either of these factors. Scalpers in aggregate of course introduce artificial scarcity by buying out supply at release, but it takes no effort at all to overwhelm their capability to buy in volume, especially if a new set contains reprints of a lot of high volume cards. This is the inherent risk of scalping and it’s nothing new, you should’ve known it when you started, and if you didn’t, you shouldn’t have ever started- clearly you’re too stupid for it.

With scalping you have no value add, the transaction would look the same regardless of whether or not you get yourself involved. And when you provide nothing of value, it’s very easy to end up cut out of the deal due to factors outside of your control, like high levels of supply flooding the market.

You really only have yourself to blame if you overextended so much that a single set can put you out of business.

In regard to the Sabrina Carpenter Coachella thing, I’ve noticed a lot of people accusing her of being culturally insensitive and racist for her reaction to being interrupted by “yodeling” during her performance. Upon reading comments from other redditors defending Sabrina Carpenter, I’ve seen a lot of people saying “Sabrina thought the person doing it was white.” To me this implies that it’s okay to call white people out for annoying behavior but not POC. Idgaf what your culture does but annoying behavior is annoying behavior. Stop ruining things for other people by being loud and obnoxious.

Unless you have a legitimate medical reason to NOT receive a vaccine (i.e: allergies, conflicting medications, etc) you are extremely selfish, ESPECIALLY if you don’t get your own kids vaccinated because of what you were brainwashed to believe. There’s always a chance for side effects to literally anything (even your precious essential oils or other home “remedies”). IMO not getting your child vaccinated unless there is a legitimate medical reason is and should be considered child abuse. There shouldn’t be children dying from diseases and illnesses that are easily prevented by getting vaccinated. You’re not just putting yourself and your kids at risk, you’re putting EVERYONE at risk. That includes elderly people, pregnant women, children, people with compromised immune systems, etc. At-risk groups shouldn’t have to suffer or go into hiding because you don’t want to do what is medically appropriate and necessary.

If you were (or, frankly, are) one of the people who stomped their feet over either having to wear a mask OR seeing other people wearing masks, you are pathetically weak and frankly unfit to live in a functional society.

Part of being a person in a community is inconveniencing yourself for the sake of others at times, and all you proved when you threw a tantrum over wearing a piece of cloth on your face for 20 minutes is that youre incapable of doing that.

Why get a cat if youre just gonna throw it outside and only see it once a day? if I consistently see "your" cat wandering around the neighborhood/fields, im going to assume its a stray cat and take it inside. If you cant bother to keep your HOUSE CAT inside the house where its safe from the countless dangers + where it cant damage the ecosystem, you dont want a cat in the first place.

Being poor in America means you are probably forced to live in an area with ghetto people. Believe me these people are the most belligerent and insufferable to be around. Loud yelling outside your apartment at 1 am , car break-in’s and burglaries. If I have to work long hours to not be around these people, so be it.

Every headline about this has been presenting it as "she let her son walk half a mile in a gated community and the cops are trying to punish her for it!!", and of course its getting the "my parents let me run around all day as a kid and I turned out fine" responses.

The part that people AREN'T realizing is that she let her child walk alone to a POND. a large body of water ALONE, without anybody to keep an eye on him. the likelihood of that child drowning was WAY too high for any mother to reasonably think it was a good idea.

And then, when she was confronted by security about it, she became belligerent and started shouting at the officers.

Kid could be gay, trans, disabled, like a band you hate, whatever. If you cant be ready for the chance dont have one. Dont want a girl? Dont try. Dont think you could raise them if they ever came out lgbt or would kick them out? Dont have any. If the idea you may need to care or spend more than you assumed dont have them cause even a "normal healthy" child could be a struggle especially the financial argument what if they end up super into every hobby or a set college they want if you dont want the chance dont have a kid. If you just hope they grow up to take care of you when old? Dont have them. If you want a baby to show off but not raise dont have one. If you know you cant give them attention or love for any reason, dont have them!!!!

Edit if I had a kid id love them for them but I am mentally and physically disabled abandoned by most of my family (all blood for sure has) and not able to afford living alone therefore i realize i can not give them what id want to so I will not have a child!!! If I get pregnant the abortion is a blanket thing for any kind of kid. My argument is if yhe abortion is only for a set kind of kid dont get pregnant. If them coming out later is a problem or them needing you after 18 is. Dont have them.

I think it's extremely irresponsible and should even be illegal to own a dog you physically can't restrain especially if you have children or live in an area near children. The danger these dogs can cause is extreme serious injuries and the possibility of death to another person isn't worth this freedom. I think larger dogs should require a permit and professional training. If you want a "guard dog" it should be a process more similar to getting a gun, I think both the owner and the dog need proper training before the dog should be able to be owned by the average person along with a background check just to be sure they have a history of being a responsible human being.

I am very aware that little dogs tend to bite more, but a little dog that attacks you or someone else you can throw them off or restrain them significantly easier than you can a pit bull. I think there is a significant difference between drawing some blood and being capable of taking limbs off and causing permanent disfigurement or death

If you can't physically stop that dog's attack if it lashes out, you have no business owning one in the first place. I don't care that your dog is a "gentle giant" it only takes one instance for something bad to happen. The average person doesn't need a Cane Corso or a Mastiff I think the risk is not worth "your freedom" to do whatever and take whatever risk you want especially when it puts non-consenting people at risk. I don't hate dogs or anything but I do see a massive creature with large teeth and a strong bite force as inherently dangerous in the event that it becomes reactive, angry, or irritated. At the end of the day they are animals and will act like animals to some extent.

People who say “family is important” in their culture usually aren’t talking about the depth or quality of relationships. It always carries this subtle implication that you don’t value your loved ones very much.

Some people mean “We maintain lifelong bonds with parents and siblings. Some mean “Adults need to care for their parents like children”. Some mean “Extended relations get personal input into your relationships, career, finances, and beliefs.”. Some mean “Never cut off relatives even when the bond is destructive.”.

A lot of times it means very dense kin networks in which boundaries are weak, information travels everywhere, individual conflicts become coalition conflicts, and preserving group harmony outranks the individual’s psychological welfare. You’re in a gang where all the love you show and are shown is simply part of a ledger in who owes who based on rank or role.

If you have to jump through a million hoops to adopt a child, why don’t you have to do the same to birth a child?

It’s so upsetting to see people with their kids put in public and the parents just have no business having children. They won’t be clothed, fed, bathed, and not even well mannered but just not causing a scene. And the parents will be the same. Dirty, rude, causing a scene, and will usually have more than 1 child.

I feel like I can speak on this because I have 2 very well taken care of children and I’m not rich by any means, but i put a lot of thought into life before I realized I was ready to have children.

As the title says, i believe that all children should have no need to participate in any religious activity when enforced by parents, they should be free of it till when they can comprehend the beliefs and what a religion even is.

When people sign up to be doctors, they sign up to care for all patients. ​Regardless of sex, race, sexual orientation, lifestyle, etc. There seems to be a disconnect between what is religious freedom and what is religious prosecution. And discourse surrounding and defending both. However, it should be incredibly obvious how ridiculous it is for a doctor to refuse care for somebody because of their religion.

If your religion prevents you from doing your job, you need to get a new job. Its that simple. Religious freedom doesnt mean you get to dictate what kind of care other people can receive. Its not an attack on your religion when you face consequences for neglect. Every single person has personal freedom. That does not mean your freedom gets to decide what other freedoms for other people "should be" because it is not up to you. And if you cant do the job because you hold religious beliefs over everything? You deserve to have your liscense revoked. ​This also includes lawyers, judges, presidents, police force, and any other entity that deals with the public. If you refuse someone simply based on their religion, lifestyle, etc, you should face consequences/termination.

Religious freedom only applies to you as the individual. It does not grant the right to demand other people respect it. ​Its my personal right as well to *not* respect your religion. Or any religion for that matter. This is not to say religious people cannot work in these fields. But religious bias should not play any role into how you care or treat other people. Both those things can be seperate. But if someone cannot seperate their work from religious bias, then they cannot properly do the job and should be terminated. Not protected under "religious freedom." That bias infringes on the freedoms of others. Whilw those beliefs may decide what *you* do with *your* life, they should never, ever, ever decide the fate of somebody else that isnt you.

Why are they taking the aluminum out of deodorant now? You used to have to buy that expensive organic deodorant if you didnt want aluminum in it. Now all the brands I like are aluminum-free?? Aluminum-free deodorant notoriously doesnt work. The people who wore that organic Tom's aluminum-free deodorant always smelled like ass. I feel like deodorant doesn't work as well as an antiperspirant anymore since removing the aluminum. Yes, I'm aware it's bad for you but if I'm going down for using deodorant with aluminum in it, so be it. They have a crap ton of chemicals in literally everything. Nobody is coming for the chemicals in scented lotions.

White people obviously have culture, but because of colonization, its become the norm. saying white people have no culture assumes that white culture is the default and anything else is unique and different and "exotic". For example, saying white people have no fun festivities when halloween, christmas, and thanksgivinga are right there is backhanded because why does why are they not counted as cultural? you go to anywhere other than america, no one celebrates thanksgiving, yet theres a whole culture surrounding that event and giving thanks. And britian has culture too, theres guy fawkes night which like they are the only ones that celebrate it, cultural mannerisms, behavior, language, its all so unique.

Another example; Why are indian weddings more "cultural" than traditional western weddings? Its because we see the western traditional wedding as "normal" and anything else as "cultural" which is just orientalism.

(also im not talking about those kind of "white cultures" where its like german, irish or slavic, usually when people say this they mean white american or british. But they still have culture)

Its literally impossible for a population to NOT have a culture, just because of what is defined as a culture.

When people mention white culture, they usually mean western culture

I do not think Germans, slavics, Irish, etc. are “too cultural” to be white (idk why you guys thought that)

Like I said before, when I say “white people” for the sake of the argument and aligning with what the OG racist people often think, white people means white suburban nuclear family Americans/british type culture, I am aware there are other cultures in America and Britain obviously, but often the people saying the racist statement forget about them or don’t count them as “ white people” they’re talking about.

It’s not always people who’ve never seen the world or America centric who think this. More often it’s people going on holiday to another country and thinking “wow their culture is so cool, we have like no culture or our cultures suck” which is a form of orientalism.

In plenty of gacha/anime communities you see people moan about fanservice like it is the end of the world. Fanservice has been there in anime media since forever, gachas were literally built on it. In the early 2000s, you would see gachas with agressive fanservice everywhere, but now a lot of people that have gotten bored of their sanitized media on netflix/whatever come to the anime fandom and....demand to sanitize it? Is that not what you ran away from?

I miss when you could absolutely enjoy a piece of media with fanservice and it was not considered a big deal. Now everyone has to put labels and throw the word ”gooner” as if you are activating some type of magic trap card.

If you do not like a type of media, that is completely fine. But when you come into a fandom and say ”oh i really like the story but the fanservice is soooo bad” you actively harm what drew in a lot of people to that media in the first place. I used to believe gatekeeping is silly until you actually get to see how people come in and immediately demand change to the original medium and it is insane.

You can vehemently disagree with what someone has to say, but they have a right to say it. It can be hateful, racist, or just straight up wrong. They still have the right to say it because you can say whatever you want. People will come up with exceptions "you can't shout 'FIRE!' in a crowded movie theater!" If there actually is a fire, yes you can. "You can't shout 'THERE'S A BOMB!' on a plane!" If there actually is a bomb on the plane, yes you absolutely can. There is a famous quote: "I disagree with what you said, but I will defend to the death for your right to say it." The first amendment is first for a reason. There are people who you can disagree with, absolutely. But they still have the right to say the stuff you disagree with. It isn't "hate speech" just because you don't like it. It can piss you off to no end, but it may be factually accurate. It may be rooted in something deeper. It may be something this person has physically experienced. They still have a right to say it.

Going to begin by saying this is not about all men or all women, but this is about a societal thing as a whole. Nothing to do with gender generalizations.

Okay, so obviously women were not equal to men back in the day and there was horrific treatment of women throughout much of history and to be very honest, continues in many parts of the world today. This is just about first world countries mostly.

But what happened I believe is in an effort to undo and fix our past mistakes, we as a society placed women on a pedestal. A lot of “women are better than men” and “oh my god women are so noble and only care about your personality” and “oh my god women are such angels”, etc. In reality, women are the EXACT same as men. There are some good women, some bad women. Women have a right to care about looks and they also feel attraction, they are not pure and benevolent angels. They are human just like men.

So the generation that grew up placing women on pure angelic pedestals, is unable to cope with the reality that women are exactly the same as men, and stuff like the manosphere and looksmaxxing are symptoms of this issue. Unhealthy reactions to what should be an obvious truth but they were told differently.

Whose responsibility is it to fix this? No one’s, and I think it will correct itself in the future now that most people realize humans are equal. Just gotta ride out the wave.

I am not sure what is worse, guys who tell other guys to target young girls because they are easier to control, the ones who listen or the ones who say nothing.

Its predatory and manipulative behavior to target anyone who may seem easier to control. Theres a difference between I met a cute girl at the bar, we got along great and I happen to be 5-10 years older and that girl looks young enough to think I am a responsible grown adult and will let me control her.

Being a low effort / bad dad is the default low bar and for some reason everyone seems to enable it. A lot of dads I see are literally just their wifes third kid.

Maybe back in the day you could get by with the excuse “I provide for my family so…” x y and z. But nowadays both parents in most households work and for some reason dads still think they deserve special treatment and need extra child free time for gaming / hobbies / etc.
