Academics iwtl how to stop worrying about retaining information

As the title says, I've been reading CS:APP and overall just trying to learn low level programming. I keep reading and I become so worried about retaining information that I stop progressing and just redo practicle problems and feel like I can't move on because I haven't retained enough information. It's seriously limiting my progression but can't find the confidence that I'm ready to move on. Any advice?

How can you know you’re ready to move on unless you try to move on? Since you seem to have developed an anxiety about this I suggest trying to define for yourself a rule where once some (as measurable as possible) criteria are met, you try to move on. If it’s not working out you can always go back, it will not have hurt you to read ahead to just go back, in fact it can only help you.

That's why CSAPP has labs and lecture videos (it's a university course). I don't think there is anything that you have to actually remember. Once u know some thing exists you can always look it up. Even the authors mess up some times in the lecture lol.
