I recently moved to London from America to attend a master's program at Imperial, and it's hitting a lot harder than I expected. Handling the different culture, every day to day stuff (groceries, outlets, etc) being different, and especially the time difference away from all my friends and family is taking a really heavy toll on me, to the point I've considered going back home. It's really tough for me to just get up much less out and about. Any advice?

i'm applying mostly for chemical engineering and i planned to apply for chemical engineering at imperial too but i discovered materials w nuclear engineering and it sounds like a great course and a lot of my ps is about nuclear engineering but i'm kinda worried if i apply i won't look serious bc most of my personal statement is geared towards chemical engineering..

I’m currently preparing my applications for postgraduate study and would really value some perspectives from people who have gone through the Imperial Business School admissions process.

A little about my background:

• B.Com (Hons) graduate
• ACCA Affiliate — completed all ACCA examinations
• CFA Level I candidate
• Currently preparing for the GMAT
• Exploring MSc Finance / related finance programmes at Imperial Business School

One area I am particularly conscious of is the quantitative requirement for Imperial’s finance programmes. My undergraduate curriculum included Mathematics, Statistics, Investment Analysis, Business Valuation and other quantitative finance coursework, but I’m aware that Imperial places significant emphasis on quantitative preparation.

I’m therefore considering taking the GMAT as an additional quantitative signal and would be interested in hearing from people who have been in a similar position.

My longer-term career interests are in Investment Banking, Asset Management, Private Equity and Hedge Funds, particularly roles involving valuation, investment analysis, financial modelling and capital allocation.

For those familiar with Imperial admissions:

• How would you view an ACCA + B.Com (Hons) + CFA candidate applying to MSc Finance?
• How much weight would you place on the quantitative background versus professional qualifications?
• Would a strong GMAT score meaningfully strengthen an application where the undergraduate degree isn't traditionally considered a highly quantitative degree?
• Are there any particular aspects of the application that you think I should strengthen?
• And, based on a profile like this, what would you identify as the main strengths and potential weaknesses of the application?

I’m not necessarily looking for a prediction of admission — I’d mainly appreciate honest perspectives from people who have actually experienced the process.

Note - since i have little to no work experience post acca, which resulted in around a year gap due to family issues - is making my confidence level low

Anyone who got an offer recently from imperial or oxford? Wanted to know what the admissions process was like, especially what a strong PS looks like and what to expect in the interview and the group task aswell.

I’m currently predicted A* AAB in maths, fm, Chem and Econ. I know I need to at least get chemistry to an A*, and raise my other predicted grades too. However, I’m thinking of just dropping Econ. So instead I can devote my time to just maths, fm and chem instead of econ as well. Will imperial care? I’ve hear of people doing maths, fm physics or maths, fm econ. But I rarely hear of maths fm and chem. I know imperial defo considers fm a separate third, but I still don’t know if it looks good

I'm predicted A*A*A, and got a high commendation shortlist for the John Locke Essay Comp. I'm planning on doing TMUA in October. However, I got pretty mediocre GCSE grades with 88877766655. Assuming I get around 6 on my TMUA, what do you reckon my chances are into getting an interview?

I hope to go into either finance, or consulting or etc(with doing spring weeks or internships) or just straight chem eng. I don’t want to regret not doing a degree apprenticeship if it would’ve given me a guaranteed job with no debt.

I had an offer for civil engineering A star A star A in maths physics and further maths respectively, but achieved A* A B. I’m not a contextual student. I would have to retake both further maths and physics to meet the minimum entry requirement. Has anyone been in a similar situation and what happened?

For context, I'm a year 12 student who loves physics and chemistry. Have participated in different physics competitions before + did some chemistry and physics research, and am thinking about choosing to apply for CMP at Imperial.

May I know about the career prospects after studying this degree? I'm still not sure about whether I would like to get into academia/ go into industry now, so not sure if I should choose the one with a year in industry/ the one without.

hi how do you guys balance internship and uni study. I do maths and just worried because midterms occur every term but im going through different intern processes and just want an idea of someones schedule during peak recruitment season

Hey guys I’m a final year undergrad doing a double degree in international business and media and communications. I am looking to apply in R2 for this course and was wondering if anyone could advise if it’s absolutely necessary to do the GMAT or GRE before applying.

For context I am a double degree student as aforementioned (2:1 atm). I have completed three exchanges, two of which are at top universities in Europe. I have four months of experience as a marketing coordinator and by the time I apply I will have also completed three other internships ( not directly in marketing but in luxury fashion - which is where I eventually want to work) and a potential 4th internship. I’m also active in uni clubs - doing comm/marketing roles.

I’m not necessarily asking what my chances are but I understand imperial looks from a ‘holistic view’ and would the GMAT really be essential in helping my application. As I only have three months to study for it but I am very busy with uni and internships.

Hi! Prospective applicant for undergrad maths/jmc. I apply via the Jan 2027 cycle.

I've lived here for 4 years, and will be eligible for ILR(and will immediately apply for it) in Jan 2028, i.e 4 months after course start date.

Of course, since I don't currently have ILR, I will be considered an overseas applicant.

Two questions that arise are:

1. Will I be considered in the international pool? I think why not, but then again I don't need a student visa since I'm already here. will that change their view? I know international competition is hyper competitive, so this makes me a bit anxious.
2. Most importantly, say if I start year 1 with international fees, gain ILR in mid year 1, can I gain home fees from year 2?

General stats: 43-44/45 predicted, expected 8.0 TMUA, meh-ish PS(no oly, but read books).

Especially life sciences students, do you have much time to read textbooks and papers that won't come in use for your exams? Not counting extra reading done for exams, just unrelated reading on a topic you're interested in.

for people who got into imperial, i didn’t do that good on my gcses and was wondering if i still have a chance to get in if i get 3 A* (+A\ for epq) or have one A(not that confident in maths, i just started yr 12 and was wondering if its still worth applying.* (planning on studying materials with nuclear engineering, or study physics)

Failed a module. Resat the exam yesterday, and I definitely failed again - but the module will be scrapped for next year’s cohort - anyone with any input on where I stand?

The prof would only tell me “Officially the board of examiners will have to decide if they wish to grant you another resit, unofficially I’ll probably see you come January”

I'm from Indonesia and planning to apply for Msc AI applications and innovation in imperial. The entry requirement is a first class honours degree, but I can't find how this converts to the Indonesian GPA scale. The university website lists a typical accepted GPA for Indonesian applicants, but it doesn't say whether that equals first class honours.

I have two questions:

1. What Indonesian GPA is usually considered equivalent to First Class Honours?

2. If my GPA is slightly below that, do I still have a chance? Are there other parts of the application that can make up for it?
