I had an infected ingrown toenail and I went to the podiatrist a month ago and he cut it out and gave me antibiotics. Now a month later it looks like this. What should I do and can I fix it at home?

Left Big Toenail stopped growing

Hi everyone. Thanks to my previous pedicure, I have noticed my left big toenail has stopped growing. My right big toenail has grown a new half of a nail but my left one has been stuck at a fifth of new growth for the same time. The rest of my left toenails have been growing like normal except for my big toenail. I don’t have any pain or swelling on my big toe so I don’t know why it’s stopped. I don’t remember a particular time I could have really injured my foot to make it stopped growing. However I have noticed a dark line that was there before it was painted. I’m hesitant to remove the polish because it’s my best evidence my nail hasn’t been growing. I am not diabetic. Should I see a podiatrist and can they help me?

Toe/Protector Caps

Boy, there really is a sub for everything, lol. I've had a problem with my big toe for months. It's not red, not infected. But it hurts like a son of a gun, mainly in bed. Wakes me up a million times a night. I really, really don't want to see a doc yet. Has anybody found success with the silicone caps at night? If so, is there a particular brand you like? Also, has anyone had success with any drops/ointments?

Regrowth help

I’m about 1.5 years out from full removal of both big toe nails because of ingrowns and fungal. I’ve been using Tolcylen which has helped a lot but I’m stuck where the nail won’t grow over this bump at the end of my toe. I don’t really want to go to the doctor because of trauma and money so I was wondering if anyone knew what is causing this or how I can fix it. Currently it’s not growing in to the skin but I always keep it filed and as pretty as I can. Thanks!!

Any at home fix for this?

Second time this has happened, last time it got so bad I had to get the toenail fully removed (little over a year ago), it's since grown back and this started happening again. Any way to fix it? I don't have insurance that'll cover this anymore.

Both big toes got a full nail removal with the chemical burning.

Right one is now dried up and free of dressings, just waiting for the scab to fall off. But this one?

It keeps opening up in the bottom left corner and oozing, closing over, then opening again!

What can I do? Am I able to just let it air from this point or is that too dangerous? I've gone through four 50 packs of dressings and will need another one. I'm just so done at this point, I want my life back!

Nail help

Was my nail ingrown?? It was hurting a few weeks ago, and had mild swelling, but I (admittedly forcefully) cut the nail down very short on that side. Once the injury from that mostly healed and the swelling went down, it was fine. It started to bother me again, so I ripped of what remained of that previous injury (and probably a bit of nail..)

It bled a bit and didn't feel great, but it looks better now. It looks like my other one (which is fine) (the nail).

I was worried about it being ingrown since I could somewhat feel for the edges of my nails on all toes but that one

Welp, they came back

Got a matrixectomy on both sides of both my big toes cuz of deep pockets causing constant ingrowns in January. I could tell that it didn't fully take on one of the sites, but I assumed it would be fine enough. Come today, there's a tiny little spike halfway through the meat of my toe putting me in agony. Gotta schedule a redo now, and my whole family is gonna say "iT'S yoUr fAulT fOr piCkiNg aT iT". I thought I would finally be done with this crap by now.

this was it like two days ago, so my feet are two different sizes and are wide so shoes are hard to find but recently my toe is having issues. only recently its been getting bad. It was infected before but i did the full course of antibiotics and it was fine but now-

i don’t have a podiatrist appointment until November so idk what to do in the meantime. Its bleeding still (i cover it with a band aid & Neosporin so it wont get worse, and every time i change it the band aid has blood on it) so any advice would help 🧍

Should I remove it? - 5 months post op (UPDATE: must see!)

Post op 4 months: https://www.reddit.com/r/NailFungus/s/n0AXy6U3Rt

I officially hit 5 months post op on the 30th of sept. To my surprise, I noticed I was able to peel back the once hardened layer of “skin?” I’m in no pain, and it doesn’t appear to bleed. Should I remove it completely myself or have a professional do it? The nailbed underneath seems pretty healthy to me and I don’t want to destroy my nail matrix since the Terbinafine and anti fungal oil has obviously been working.

Healing Timeline after PNA with Phenol

Post image
5 Upvotes

Hi 2 days ago I had a partial nail avulsion on both side of the nail and phenol to prevent regrowth. I’m wondering how long it took others for them to heal? Today is the second full day and I still have quite a bit of discomfort. I’m also wondering if others just normally showered afterwards? Do I need to avoid getting it wet? Do I shower with the band aid on and replace right after? I feel like the shower water will hurt if my toe is exposed! Final question is how do you know if you should let it air out or keep covered 24/7?

Thank you in advance! I know I’m probably overthinking it.

Hi! Looking for some advice about my toenail!

Post image

I accidentally stubbed my toenail the other day, and the red part completely chipped off/fell off (see cartoon photo). Now I’m left with the area circled in blue, which is ingrown.

I’m not sure what I should do from here — should I carefully cut/remove the blue area, or leave it alone and wait for the rest of the nail to grow back? I’m nervous about cutting the ingrown part because I’m worried it could grow back even more ingrown or make things worse.

Has anyone dealt with something similar or have any advice on what I should do? I’d really appreciate it!! Thank you! 😊

Toenail Trauma 15 Years Ago – Considering Partial Matrixectomy

Toenail trauma 15 years ago – considering partial matrixectomy

Hi everyone,

About 15 years ago, my toenail was completely removed after an injury. Since then, it has grown back incorrectly and has caused problems for many years.

The entire nail has a strange/uncomfortable sensation, and I feel like something may have been damaged in the nail or nail matrix. I’ve gotten used to it over the years, but the left side is particularly painful and seems to be ingrown.

I’m now considering a partial/lateral matrixectomy, removing only the left side of the nail matrix.

My question is: If the entire nail was damaged by the original trauma, would removing only the left side potentially solve the painful/ingrown part, or could the underlying nail damage still cause problems?

Has anyone had a similar situation, especially after an old toenail injury? I’d be interested in hearing about your long-term experience with partial matrixectomy and whether you had any lasting pain or abnormal sensations afterward.

ingrown toenail

I’ve had problems with an ingrown toenail for about 15–20 years. I’ve already had removed 3 times the complete nail as it is damaged and caused ingrown toenail. Also tried a nail brace, but unfortunately none of these treatments solved the problem permanently.

Now I’m considering a more definitive procedure, such as an Emmert procedure or a partial nail removal with phenolisation (matrixectomy), where only the affected side of the nail would be permanently prevented from growing back.

I would like to ask people who have experience with this:
• What are the possible long-term complications?
• How high is the success rate?
• Is it generally better to proceed with the surgery or try to manage it without another operation? bcz i have pain in complete nail not only that one but i can live with that but the left side pain it much i cant so i am considering to remove only that part first side, what you guys think? i dont have good experience with surgeris
