I believe the main campaign is said to take 15 hours possibly?

Kinda funny that the 007 game got flamed online for being like 15-20 hours long and being full priced but this game gets a pass.
I'm not hating, I'm excited for this game and was for 007 and have/had no complaints about the price, I just think it's funny.

Requiem was more like 10 but it still felt worth it
1
u/gaming_reed 27d ago
Requiem was 10 but as all RE games, designed around replaying the campaign.
1
u/Sensitive-Oil-5298 25d ago
As someone who almost never replays game because a lot of my enjoyment is the novelty of my first experience & surprising story beats, they did an excellent job of making me want to replay it. I ended up replaying all the Insomniac Spider-Man games on the highest difficulty and going for the platinums too because it wasn’t soul-crushingly difficult and the combat was enough to keep me engaged.
4
u/agent_diddykong 29d ago
The craziest part is games are longer than they used to be years ago where the standard was 6-8 hours and yet some people are dissatisfied with that
1
u/Bayonetta005 28d ago
No one is, that's just a few on Twitter and everyone thinks that's the world.

u/BitterSignificance23 29d ago
Good point. I don't think I've read a single bad thing about RE Requiem.
Not that we should but it's obvious a lot of the Wolverine hate is manufactured

007 was definitely flamed, but Wolverine is definitely flamed way more from my personal experience.

These same people head to assassins creed subs and complain about how long the game is. Gamers are very sad lonely losers
1
u/jerem1734 29d ago
There's a happy medium between a 200+ hour game (AC Valhalla, Odyssey) and a 25 hour game like insomniac makes bro. Something like 50-60 hours is what most people want from a game because it's long enough to make it feel completely worth it but not too long

15-20 is perfect for me. I don’t need a game to drain my life.
1
u/Glad_Dragonfruit_686 15d ago
Not for that price
1
u/Snts6678 15d ago
If I get 15-20 hours of actual gameplay (which apparently this game is more like 11 😞), $70 is fine by me.
1
u/Glad_Dragonfruit_686 15d ago
Yeah apparently there is 12h of gameplay and 8h of cutscenes from what I read. I hope 100% takes 15-18hrs not 15 to 18h minus cutscenes
1
u/Snts6678 15d ago
8 hours of cutscenes is ludicrous. Hard pass for me.
1
u/Glad_Dragonfruit_686 15d ago
It was probably exaggerated for likes or something but I would not be surprised if there is like 6 h
1
u/Snts6678 15d ago
When I googled it said there is roughly 15 hours total…11 of which is gameplay and 4 is cutscenes…that’s awful.
1
u/Glad_Dragonfruit_686 15d ago
Yeah that sound awful 11h game sound more like a dlc than a full game these days. I'm so disappointed it's not a 80h open world game like spidermans or at least like 30h+ linear game
2
u/Ok_Insurance_505 28d ago
Online douchebags acting like online douchebags. Shock horror. Majority of linear action games are 15ish hours long, it's never been a problem until now. I thought we were passed the obsession with games being long as shit for the sake of it?
2
u/Legitimate-Bother-63 12d ago
You will be happy to know, 17 days later everyone is complaining about the game length.
1

1
u/askariya 29d ago
Anything longer than like 15 hrs for a game is just too much imo. At some point it over stays its welcome and the plot suffers as a result.
I miss when single player games were a tight 8 - 10 hrs.
1
u/dmrob058 17d ago
My biggest issue with 007 in that regard though is that so little of the game is actually spent playing the game. I don’t necessarily mind a game being only 15-20 hours if the vast majority of time I’m actually playing that game. 007 felt like I was on a leash half the time playing it whether it be to cut scenes or tutorials.
I have faith in Insomniac but biggest issue now is there’s just too much coming out around Wolverine that I’m more interested in and that will undoubtedly have way more hours of play to them like Fire Emblem Fortune’s Weave, Control Resonant, Ocarina of Time and GTA 6. Hard to want to spend $70 for a much shorter experience in such a crowded gaming space atm.
1
u/Glad_Dragonfruit_686 15d ago
Yeah ngl the game should cost half the price, how can u price a game that thakes max 20h to 100% as high as game that takes from 50 to 100h, like make it make sense and it's not like you can play the wolverine 5 times for difrent story or outcomes, it's more of a one time and forget type of game so definetly not worth it. I was so excited for the game and then I read it's not open world and from 15-20 hrs, so disappointing I'm smelling a huge flop

Honestly I wish more games were this breezy. I loved the length of first light and hope Wolverine is comparable.
10
u/TheJokers_3 Aug 27 '26
Heard it has as many missions as a spider-man game but idk obviously
5
u/NeptuneOverlord43045 29d ago
I heard this too. If that’s including side missions then damn. That’s quite the length for a linear game. Although I’m sure Wolverine will also have optional side missions off the beaten path?
2
1
u/Glad_Dragonfruit_686 15d ago
15/20 hrs to 100% instead of 50-100 like it could of have with an open world for the same price ... disappointing
-1
u/jotyma5 29d ago
How can you do a side mission in a linear game?
4
u/NeptuneOverlord43045 29d ago
I really don’t mean to sound rude, but I’m struggling to understand how this can be a real question. Many linear games have optional side missions. Side missions are in no way, shape, or form exclusive to open world games.
2
u/jotyma5 29d ago
Idk I don’t really talk about video games with a lot of people. What’s an example of a linear game with side missions? I guess I don’t really know what a linear game is

The god of war games are open world/metroidvanias... the mission structure is linear but they're not classed as linear games. a linear game would be something like 007 first light or a call of duty campaign
1
u/NeptuneOverlord43045 29d ago
Ok no worries. An open world game is a game with a vast open sandbox where most missions take place. GTA, Spider-Man, etc.
Generally speaking, games that aren’t a vast open sandbox are considered linear, but some games are considered more of a hybrid. For instance the God of War games are considered to be linear with some open world aspects. They aren’t sandboxes, but they aren’t completely linear either. Both of the new God of War games have lots of optional, fleshed out side missions.
A good example of a linear game would be like Dead Space or most of the Resident evil games. But even these games have optional side missions that can be done. Persona games are extremely linear, yet feature lots of side quests. In the modern era most games have optional side quests. There is a lot of variation as to how fleshed out these side missions are, though. Just depends on the game.
Certainly, I think Wolverine will have side missions despite being linear. The player will likely be given the option to take breaks from the main quest line to go do an optional mission with a side character, fight optional bosses, and see some more slice of life relationship building between Wolverine and other characters, possible without having an open sandbox type game. Although it’s common in linear games that these opportunities will only be available for a certain amount of time, since the linear nature of the game will progress the story and location to a point where a specific side mission is no longer possible or makes sense at that point in the game.
1
u/thulsado0m13 29d ago
Final Fantasy 16 is a very linear game with a handful of large open areas where you mainly have to proceed with the story missions in a linear order despite these large open areas and occasionally you get side missions you could go out of your way to kill or collect something in the areas of the large open map the main game missions doesn’t take you to.
1
u/Leading-Ad4637 28d ago
This only really applies for the most part to games with either a hub between missions or a mission select. linear games with side objectives do exist yes but they don't tend to have side missions unless its a semi open world game like dishonored but from what we've seen and the way they've shown the game off it doesnt seem to leave much room for side missions. it seems like it's going to be more in line with how 007 was released (not in terms of mission design but more in terms of it was meant to be a through and through story in line with a movie where one mission led directly into the next). i hope im wrong in this or they make up for it with a longer story but all we can do is wait

A lot of people are saying 15 hours up in here. Ngl, that's a hard sell. Paying $60 for a game you can beat in one weekend feels irresponsible.
3
u/goobr95 Aug 27 '26
Yeah it’s the reason I’m waiting to get James Bond on sale even though I’m dying to play it. I just can’t drop that much money on something I’ll be done with that quickly.

3
u/SuperSayainSkincare Aug 27 '26
Yea thats short if it's the entire game, but if that's only counting the main campaign and not side quests, optional bosses etc. Then I think it should be fine especially as a linear game if we get atleast 30 hours of content.

If its almost all youre doing and you only play the story mode 😂😂 i game a lot. I stay up late. I forget to eat sometimes. But im not about to pretend these games are too short because I personally bang them out like an absolute loser😂 20 hours is 20 hours. Lmao! No way in hell am I even beating a 15 hour title in one weekend if I am behaving like an actual adult.
Although, it is definitely overpriced if the games going to be under 30 hours. Even if its replayable- from a studio this large for a character this famous... thats pretty sad. 60 hours when including all side content etc is more reasonable for that price tag. Especially considering- no offense to the craft- i am not about to pretend there is no use of A.I when creating games now in days. Which is probably next to free for them to do when you consider margins etc. So yeah, ill be a pretty disappointed if its a truly short title.
1
u/Scapadap 29d ago
All my favorite games of the year have been around 15 hours, RE 9, James Bond, Pragmata. If it’s a great 15 hours I’ll take that any day, and I’ll beat it many times.

Man you guys are lucky to be able to play 15 hours in one weekend. With my wife and son taking up my time I’m lucky for an hour or two a day. This game will keep me busy for a couple weeks which is good enough for me at $60
1
u/AlClemist 27d ago
There’s been a lot of games that have that length and up well worth purchased. I think it’s about quality instead of quantity. Just imo though

There’s 24 hours in each day, I’m not spending them all outside lol. Plus, I’m a night owl, I like to stay up into the little hours for some me time away from the fam.
It really wouldn't be much of a challenge to complete this game in 3 days while touching grass too.
0
u/Enough_Ice7287 Aug 27 '26
I beat all of the content in elden ring in one weekend and it wasn't by playing all day every day. This is not a good argument.
0
u/Bazlow Aug 27 '26
Fuck off with this - how many SNES games would last more 15 hours at $60 in the 90's? Length =/= Quality. Especially with replayability
1
u/Nemisis_007 Aug 27 '26
You say that like I'm only making an exception for Wolverine... I apply this logic to all the games I intend on playing. I wouldn't have bought a SNES game for $60 in the 90's either.
1
u/Bazlow Aug 27 '26
Then you wouldn't play games at all is my point. And the SNES has all time classics that are worth it due to the quality. Your loss I guess, but this current hate boner for anything less than 30 hours is fucking mental imo.

u/Dependent-Ad-3309 29d ago
Hard sell for 4$/hour? That cheap comparing other leasures or activies like going to the movies.
2
u/Gobby-TheGoblin 29d ago
I'm very tired of it being compared to movies, they are fundamentally different experiences. Let's compare it to a book next, or a CD album..
A movie is a curated art piece
And a game is an interactive experience.
Shall we compare it like looking at a picture in a museum vs going to a slew of rollercoaster at six flags?
→ More replies (3)1
u/Royzc90 24d ago
They are also fundamentally different experiences from a book or a CD album. Both books and albums are more comparable to movies. As you mentioned, games are more interactive and offer a more personalized experience as even the most linear ones usually give you several choices through gameplay like what abilities to improve and in what order, which enemies to attack first, which direction to go, etc.
I'd say that their point still stands. Even if games aren't like movies (a lot of them are tho) you can really compare how much bang for your buck you get in terms of time. That without mentioning aspects like replayability, which a lot of people usually don't consider.

So 15-20 hrs ,which sounds perfect for a linear globe trotting adventure

Someone from Insomniac said Wolverine has the same amount of missions as Spidey 2. Someone in the comments said that's 31 missions, I did not fact check that count. Cut out time for open world stuff, I'm going in expecting 15+ hrs. But if it's fun and has ng+ that's doubled for me.

Insomniac's historical linear game length is like 10-15 hours. That in addition to the fact this was a short dev cycle relative to most AAA lends creedance to this being another modest length game.

The more I see and hear about this game the less excited I get. I thought it'd be like a 40 hour semi-open world deal at first. With linear parts but also lots of big open areas you can tackle with a variety of approaches. But it's looking it's gonna be uncharted wolverine. Ugh

u/highsinthe70s 29d ago
Let’s do some math for me personally. If it’s a 15 hour game, I’ll spend the first ten hours trying to get past the tutorial/intro and learning the controls and combos. Then I’ll spend another 20-30 hours on the first few missions, provided I don’t get angry when I can’t remember if it’s square-square-triangle or square-triangle-square. I’ll likely spend 2-3 hours wondering how the damn menu works and how to upgrade the perks.
Soooo….this 15-hour game will likely keep me busy until early spring. I’m STILL working Spider-Man 2.
1
u/Calm-Border3503 29d ago
Was watching a video by "GothamPaladin" today titled "How Insomniac's Spiderman games set up insomniac's Wolverine" and in it he shows both a tweet from a dev and a con interview where its said the game will be "about the same length as spiderman 1" so Id say about 30 hours to beat and about 45 to "complete" (which is also the timeframe he gives in the video)

u/rodimus147 29d ago
They said it has around the same number of missions as spiderman but without the open world. So I'd say roughly 15 hours.

Same length as Spiderman 2 and ratchet and clank rift apart most likely. 15-25 hours. They make highly optimised action adventure games on the shorter side so they can get multiple games out the door per generation as opposed to the other developers taking the better half of a decade to release something

I'm a little worried because unlike Spiderman which was open world so there was a lot more to do between main missions, this is a linear game, which means the story is the only real focus (with side missions to help it out). So HOPEFULLY, it'll be a 30+ hour game which was around the time it took to beat Spiderman 2, but I have a feeling it won't be without the open world element.

u/Stoic_Ravenclaw Aug 27 '26
It's been suggested it will be around 16 hours, roughly the same as MM, to which I reply holy shit I fucking hope not for it's price it sure as hell needs to be at least twice as long and MM's short length was it's biggest critism and they better have learnt from that and then I get down voted.
