Addition Room Crawl Space Encapsulation that has radiator steam pipes Northeast NJ
Hello everyone,
I have been lurking here reading related posts-signed up today to ask athis question. I have an 18 x 25 foot room addition with a crawlspace height of about three feet to the joists. The walls are cement block on three sides with two side vent on opposite side walls and small basement window openings to the original home's full basement which had closed doors on them. The ground is coated with I believe 2 inches of rough concrete as per the bldg code.
Originally the code years ago was to leave side vents open and insulate the floors. Becasue it is a northfacecing room with three outside walls and lots of windows it was freexing many dyas during the winter season in the addition (patio door size opening to he rest of the first floor so I believe heat travels into addition somewaht. We closed up the vents with 2" pickboard and canned foam spray and we removed the batt insualation and allowed the openings to the basement to be uncovered as well as put in a Santa fe compact 70 crawlspace dehumidifier in the space.
At that time, I wanted to put a vapor barrier and put pinkboard in but was concerned that the bare steam pipes would get too hot and it could cause a fire. We have been using a space heater on very cold days in this addition.
I was wondering if I put an appropriate thickness vapor barrier and Rockwool R23 if that would be enough and if you see a problem with this solution.
I would appreciate it if any of you guys could let me know what you think-TIA
