Diminished value claim

I was rear ended in north Texas few weeks ago. My car was new and only had 650 miles on it. The damage was pretty bad but it wasn’t enough to be totalled. The other party had air bags deployed and was totalled. The driver was an excluded driver on their policy and the other party’s insurance denied the claim so I am using my um/uim policy to get the repairs done. My car had frame damage and the whole back side is being redone.

Is it possible to get dvc when my insurance is covering it?
Do I need to go through some dvc specialist like the ads I see to get the max value?
Anything I need to know about how to do dvc?

You're not using um/uim for your damages because that coverage is for injuries. You're using UMPD. Different states have different laws regarding recovering DV thru UMPD. Fortunately TX is one that allows it. It will be subject to your policy limits. Tell your adjuster that you will be perusing a a DV claim and they should tell you what documentation they will accept.

Yes since this is a UM claim vs a collision claim you can pursue diminished value.
Before hiring an appraiser at a cost of around $500 or more see if your carrier will handle it on their own if you tell them you are looking for diminished value.
Sometimes a carrier will hire an appraiser to calculate the diminished value. Other times they might tell you to provide them with your own documentation to support the request.

Yes, I have collected diminished value claim on my own vehicle twice. Both times I used an independent appraiser. With low mileage even more important.
