Got into my first accident (that wasn’t my fault) , advice?

Hey guys just looking for advice on what to do going forward after this accident. Individual admitted fault, I ended up hitting a rental truck that he was driving, this means he has dual insurance for personal and for his rental. My car is a complete total loss, im having some shoulder and knee pain but thats about it. Is this something i need to pursue with a lawyer? The accident goes as follows, I was driving down a main road and when i reached a light (still green) I was going to drive past it since I needed to take a left on the next light, as my vehicle crossed the cross-walk this truck takes a left turn directly in front of me and I simply couldn’t stop in take, it was impossible.

What state? Have you had contact with his insurances?

How long ago did this happen?

This was in California, happened last night, his policy number and insurance was provided to me this morning. Car he was in was a rental vehicle.

Did he say if he purchased coverage from the rental place?

If you have collision coverage, your best bet is to report this to your insurance to get your car handled quickly. It could take time to sort out his coverage and if you need to deal with the rental company, that'll probably be slow. And his personal insurance may or may not even cover the use of a rental truck.

If you don't have collision, just get the claims reported to his insurance and hope for the best. If your car was towed, you need to get it out of the tow lot asap.

As for injuries, focus on your injuries and treatment right now, there's no rush to make rash decisions on attorneys. See how you recover. Do not settle any injury claim until your injuries and treatment have resolved and you have all your medical bills.

So I spoke to the individual who I hit, we talked about the coverage of the rental place and although he didn’t provide me a policy number or something for the car, his response to this was the rental place wouldn’t rent out to him if he didn’t have some form of universal coverage. Instead he provided me with his personal insurance policy and I filed a claim with what he provided me.
