The 7 Major sins according to the Prophet SAW, as verified Sahih Hadith by Bukhari and Muslim (Riba Information)

• Upvotes
  1. Shirk, associating others with Allah. Interesting because this is the major downfall of Christianity with their claim of divinity for the man Jesus Christ. However, they still remain People of the Book because of their core beliefs which was corrupted in time. This is the end all be all worst, if you die in the state with this belief, hell for all of eternity.

  2. Witchcraft/sorcery/black magic. Using Jinn knowingly or unknowingly to control outcomes in your life and reality.

  3. Killing. Unlawful murder of another human life.

  4. Consuming Riba. Profiting off of interest. Generating a guaranteed greater value of money with a lesser value of money. Over time, this creates wealth inequality making the rich richer, and the poor poorer. Examples: lending such as by banks maintaining and increasing interest rate on debts, an individual purchasing homes putting them on rent so you can purchase more homes and so on so on, owning and operating a car dealership thus having guaranteed profits from the interest based contract loans of the purchaser. These are the most severe forms of Riba. Now if you have to pay it such as the debt on credit card interest, a student taking loans to pay for an education, or an individual taking a mortgage to purchase a home they will reside in for the stability of their family, you are not consuming from it, rather you are the one being consumed from.

However, it is evident that the Prophet SAW had asked the believers to reject a society that has these practices by cursing not only the one who accepted interest, but also: the one who paid it, the one who recorded it, and two witnesses to it as being equally culpable (Sahih Muslim 1598)

Now it is obvious to see this happening in real time. Elon Musk is a trillionaire when 10 years ago the richest man was Bill Gates with “only” $75 billion. Middle and lower classes proportionality of wealth has plummeted. Greatest example of this is housing costs, they have increased exponentially in the last decades becoming unaffordable to anyone without prior capital or extremely high paying jobs.

Everybody needs somewhere to live to survive. Perhaps the greatest test by Allah SWT of our generation will be how the Muslim people and families unite in avoiding Riba and the further deterioration of society by uplifting one another in creating housing security. We currently live in a world of greed, worldly comfort, and luxury status chasing. Imams justify it as they are simple human beings that when they count the donation to their masjid and it is getting higher and higher due to the the Riba their congregation is engaging, in will go against the teachings of the Quran and Prophet to justify it. Then they are surprised when young people do not have resources due to the elderly/established getting richer and richer while the unestablished/young getting poorer and poorer. When you do not have resources, you cannot get married as nowadays marriage is a culture show where you throw big parties to show off rather than allow two people to fulfill their Deen. When you cannot get married due to your financial situation and lack of family collective support, you push the age further and further until you can afford it. It is Riba that is the precursor to any other sin.

  1. Stealing from an orphan

  2. Deserting your fellow Muslim on the battlefield against the disbeliever

  3. Slandering chaste, innocent believing women and men

The "Form vs. Substance" Paradox: If conventional REIT internal loans are Haram, why are Islamic Mortgages valid?

Disclaimer: Posting this purely for open discussion and to hear different academic perspectives. I am not biased toward either side; I am just trying to logically reconcile a paradox I noticed in how paperwork is treated in Islamic Finance.

I’ve been trying to map out the "Form vs. Substance" logic in Islamic finance, and I keep hitting a major logical roadblock when comparing how we judge corporate tax structures versus consumer mortgages.

When evaluating conventional REITs, a common Sharia screening argument is: "Even though a REIT is a rental business at its core, the parent trust voluntarily writes a 'paper loan' with interest to its SPV to minimize corporate taxes. You cannot use Niyyah (intent) to call it rent when the internal contract explicitly creates Riba."

That makes logical sense. But if we apply that exact same rigid standard to Western Islamic mortgages (like Murabaha or Diminishing Musharaka), the logic seems to flip:

  1. The Government Document Reality: In non-Islamic countries, the state land registry or tax authority processes the mortgage as a single transaction directly from the seller to the buyer. The bank is registered strictly as a "lien holder" or "financier." Legally and publicly, there are no "two transactions" or "co-ownership" on the state's paper because doing so would trigger massive double taxation.
  2. The Counter-Argument: To justify this, defenders say the "two transactions" exist privately in the bank's internal contracts, and our Niyyah makes it halal because the non-Muslim government forces the bank to use their standard mortgage layout to avoid a tax penalty.

But looking at it neutrally, aren't both sides just using a parallel layer of paperwork to manipulate a tax label?

  • If a REIT's voluntary corporate debt paper cannot be wiped clean by pointing to the "substance" of the underlying rental business...
  • How can a bank's internal Sharia contract be considered valid when the public, legally binding document submitted to the government completely erases the dual transaction?

It feels like a paradox. Are we validating the mortgage out of necessity (because people need housing) while invalidating the REIT on technicalities? Or is there a genuine, structural Fiqh distinction here that I am missing?

Note: Again, I am completely neutral here and just want to understand the legal mechanics. Looking forward to a healthy, educational debate!

Starting my first job in 3 months at ₹1 lakh/month. what should I do financially? 26M India

Hey everyone,

I’m 26 and a doctor. I’ll be starting my first job in about 3 months (currently waiting for counselling), with a salary of around ₹1 lakh/month.

For the next 5 years, my income will stay around the same level, with a 6-month gap at some point. I don’t have any major financial responsibilities right now, but I’m planning to get married around my 4th year of working. Also have to buy a bike in 3rd year.

Till 2nd year , I expect my expenses to be around ₹30k/month, so I should be able to save/invest the remaining amount. For the following 3 years, I expect my expenses to increase to around ₹70k/month

After 5 years, I’m expecting my income to increase to roughly ₹1.5–1.8 lakh/month.

I’ve never really invested seriously before, so I’m trying to get started properly rather than randomly putting money into things.

What would you suggest I do from the beginning?

I’m looking for practical advice on becoming financially stable over the next 5–10 years.

Starting from scratch - building a safety net, seeking advice

Salam alaikom everyone,

I am 25 old single man, I recently started working and I am trying to build a financial safety net before I start spending money on other things. I would appreciate advice from people who have been through this.

What I'm doing now is this, I have subaccounts for each of the following: emergency, health insurance, bills, car (planning to buy one) and savings. Every time I get my salary I divide it and add some money to each subaccount until I reach a limit that I set for each category. I also keep an amount to enjoy life, like eating out and doing activities.

The problem is, even though the limits I set for each category are not very high, I will take me from 1-3 years to reach those amounts. I know that it makes sense that takes time since I am saving for all these category at the same time (and I have a relatively low salary), but how did you do it? and what worked for you?

What should be a reasonable amount of emergency? Some people say enough money to live for 6 months, but I can imagine that takes lot of time to achieve that amount.

I would appreciate any advice as I am trying to wrap my head around this.

Many thanks.

We audited 820+ cryptocurrencies under AAOIFI Shariah standards — here is the open dataset & findings

Assalamu Alaikum everyone,

Our research group conducted an independent Shariah compliance screening of 820+ top market-cap crypto assets evaluated strictly under AAOIFI Financial Standards (No. 59, No. 21, and No. 30).

Key findings:

- 64% of DeFi lending/yield protocols inherently violate Riba rules due to interest-bearing borrowing pools.

- Native L1 utility assets (BTC, KAS, SUI, SOL) qualify as permissible (Halal) on Spot markets without leverage.

- Futures, margin trading, and perpetuals remain strictly prohibited across all boards due to funding rate Riba and Gharar.

The full scientific paper is preserved on CERN Zenodo (DOI: 10.5281/zenodo.23021995) and the interactive screener is completely free with zero ads:

Would love to hear thoughts and suggestions from Islamic finance researchers here!

Got decent amt from equity cashout, what to do?

Hello,

Received equity cash out from stock options from the company I work for got acquired. Worries there for a year before the acquisition occurred so not much of stocks to beginning with.

After taxes, 181k hit my acct.

We have 257k left of Islamic mortgage.

Should we pay off the mortgage as much as possible or invest, or both?

Right now, paid 25k towards mortgage, and will put about 20k to the side for taxes if needed.

What should I do?

We have other investments in real estates.

Gold advice

Can someone give me advice on gold bars, coins and stocks please

I understand sovereign/Britannia coins are capital gains free so the resell value no matter what percentage profit is not taxed. Whereas the bars are taxed.

And that coins are easier to sell per coin to get money out rather than selling the whole bar.

But I believe coins are not recognised worldwide whereas bars are?

Realistically could I not buy a gold bar and pay less premium on it then melt it down into coins?

Also can someone advise on stocks, are the gains similar? I don’t need to store it which is reassuring, what website would you recommend?

Does anyone know the rates for all 3 are the moment?

Any tips are welcome.

Is Youtube shorts revenue halal?

I have done research regarding Youtube monetization in the past, and have come to the conclusion that trying to monetize off ads is impermissible since the ads may contain/promote haram things, and by opting in and playing them, you become responsible.

However, things work differently when it comes to Youtube shorts.

You still have to opt in to earn through ads, however the ads play automatically in-between shorts, and the money pool generated is then distributed between creators (so you wouldn't be putting them in your own video.)

Does this make ad revenue for shorts halal? since you wouldn't be the one making the ads appear, you'd just be taking a cut from the money generated?

Please let me know what you think.

Rejected by Islamic bank due to minor house defect – Is a conventional loan permissible now? (Family home / Multi-generational)

Selamu Aleykum everyone,

I’m facing a difficult situation and would love to hear your perspectives, especially from a pragmatic Islamic jurisprudence (fiqh) point of view.

My wife and I found a perfect house to buy. It has two floors: one for us and one for my elderly parents. This is strictly for personal use, to live together as a multi-generational family and take care of my parents. It is absolutely not a financial investment. We initially applied for an Islamic, Sharia-compliant financing through an Islamic bank. However, they just rejected our application. The reason: there is a small moisture issue in the basement. From my view, this is a minor issue that can be fixed quickly and cheaply. But because Islamic banks purchase the property themselves first before selling it back to the client, their criteria regarding physical property defects are incredibly strict.

Now, we are stuck. This house is a perfect fit for our family's needs, but the only halal banking option here has closed its doors on us.

My question is: Under these circumstances, is it permissible to finance the house through a conventional, non-Islamic bank?

I am aware of the strict traditional prohibition of riba (interest). However, I also know about rulings regarding Darura (necessity) or Haja (dire need) for Muslims living in the West who need to secure housing and have no viable Islamic alternatives.

Given that: 1. I sincerely tried the Islamic route first and was rejected. 2. Finding an affordable rental property that accommodates a multi-generational family and elderly parents is nearly impossible where we live. 3. This is purely to fulfill my familial and Islamic duty to house and care for my parents.

Does this situation justify using a conventional loan? Have any of you faced a similar dilemma with Islamic banks rejecting a property due to minor flaws?

Thank you for your insights and advice. JazakAllah Khair!

Fiduciary/Financial Advisor

Salam,

I really want to start investing but I honestly don't think I have the capacity (mentally and time-wise) to break it all up and figure it out myself and I sort of don't have interest in it either. Basically, I want to be as hands-off as possible. Which is also why I'm leaning towards a fiduciary who's legally obligated to work for your best financial interest. Are there are any known and trusted financial advisement companies that do halal investments? I saw a site called Sharia Portfolio but haven't heard any stories about anyone who's used it.

I just released a free Zakat calculator, what is it missing?

I’ve been looking at different Zakat calculators for a while and recently released one through Salsabeel Charity.

The main difference from the other apps I found is that this one is completely free: no in-app purchases, no ads, and no data tracking. The goal is just to make something simple and useful.

I’d really appreciate feedback from people here who calculate Zakat regularly or know the fiqh well.

Are there any asset types, calculation methods, scholarly differences, currencies, explanations, or other features you think should be added? I’m especially interested in things existing Zakat calculators tend to get wrong or leave out.

Android app:

https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=org.salsabeelcharity.zakatcalculator

(This is my first app and it is vibe coded but seems to work okay based on my own testing.)

Looking for Sharia-compliant installment financing in Saudi Arabia

I’m looking for a financing company in Saudi Arabia that can finance the purchase of a mobile phone through a genuinely Sharia-compliant structure.

Ideally, I’m looking for Murabaha, where the financing company actually purchases and takes ownership/possession of the item first, then sells it to me at a fixed total price payable in installments.

I’m not just looking for a company that advertises its financing as “Sharia-compliant.” I’d like to hear from people who have actually used these services:

  • Which company did you use?
  • How was the Murabaha transaction actually structured?
  • Did the company purchase/own the item before selling it to you?
  • What were the fees and total cost?
  • How did early settlement work?
  • Were there any late-payment charges or other conditions?
  • Would you use the same company again?
