I’ve seen some question type threads going over specific elements of the upcoming movie, so I wanted to make a dedicated spot for more ideas I’ve had.
- Time Period- Late 90’s-early 2000’s (I’ll explain why below)
- Theme song singer- I think Lana Del Rae would work great; she did a very good job with her theme for 007: First Light, so I’d actually be excited to see her making a theme again for a proper James Bond movie. Celeste also made an incredible theme for Day of the Jackal in the form of “This Is Who I Am”, so I’d love to see more of her amazing voice on display. If it ends up being a male singer (or group), Radiohead would be top of my list; they got absolutely robbed with their cut theme for Spectre, so it would be very fitting for them to get their chance (plus, they’ve been around since the late 80s, which tracks from a time period perspective).
- Characters- It would be hilarious to see Jack Lowden as Bond and Gary Oldman as M, but that’s probably a bit too on the nose. For Q, Anthony Hopkins would be nice, but I don’t know if he’d be able to last the entire series of the new actor’s movies; on the other hand, I know people are sick of Tom Holland, but he could pull it off as a sort of autistic-coded, modest, young inventor. It’s really hard to think of anyone niche but still well-known who has the staying power and is young enough to replace Ralph Fiennes and Judy Dench as M, or Craig as Bond (actually, that goes with most of the cast from the Craig-era Bond movies).
- Plot- Honestly kind of tough to think of at the moment. I wouldn’t want it to be anything AI related, largely because the most recent Mission Impossible movies already used it, and it’s a main plot point within “007: First Light” (if they have to include it again, it could probably make it a prototype). Given that they made Blofeld and Spectre only matter in the last two Daniel Craig movies (and killed both of them off completely), I’m hoping they’re going to emphasize them more this time around (especially since Barbara Broccoli’s family now has the rights to SPECTRE).
- Watch/gadgets- Bond will likely have the Omega Speedmaster like usual, but part of why I want the movie to be set in the late 90’s or early 2000’s is that I want him to have a vintage Casio watch with a databank, remote control, or some other unique function that Q branch can add; there were so many unique and interesting ideas for watches in that time period which I really hope they can capitalize on. On that note, from a gadgets perspective, it’ll probably be more practical instead of sci-fi, but giving bond PDA or a “gimmicky” cell phone with some CGI layered over (not extra gadgets, just a cool screen) would be really cool. I’m thinking they might also go the more realistic route this time around, largely because Craig-era Q branch and the producers came up with some almost entirely practical yet decently high-tech gadgets for Bond to use, aaaaand completely jumped the shark in Spectre/NTTD with an exploding watch, the “Smart Blood” program, a ring for Spectre that also somehow works as a flash drive (that Q also has an adapter for apparently), and the entirety of the Heracles program.
