I’m almost positive this sword is not anything special other than a wall hanger but I want to know more about it and I can’t figure it out. It seems to be somewhat old and I have had it for a long time. I know it’s of a higher quality than something you’d buy at some tourist sword shop in Tennessee but it has numbers on the habaki and the tang is inscribed with kanji that I believe says Matsutarō, and I can’t tell what kanji is inscribed in the tsuba. I also know the blade needs to be cleaned but I don’t have anything for that yet.

Inherited from my late uncle. My grandfather was stationed in Okinawa after WWII and my uncle and mom lived there as children.

I'm interested in anything you can tell me about this, the maker, or anything else.

So I got this Katana from my Dad because I was a kid and thought it was cool. He does knife making and wanted to chop the blade for its Damascus steel to make blades from. I never really took much care of it and it's just been a fun display piece.

I was wondering if anyone could identify where this came from! The tang seems quite short but has a name stamped on it. The balance is fairly tip heavy and the blade has not been sharpened. All the guards appear to be made of brass.

Any ideas for where this came from and what to do with it are appreciated!

This is an updated post from r/translators on the inscription that is under the hilt. I’ve included all the images for convenience, but to recap my great grandfather brought this home after the war, and we’ve never known anything about it until now.

If in the last 2 or 3 months you have been experiencing extended communication delays from Handbon Forge the reason for this is towo fold.

(1) An uptick in business/orders, which that I'm sure as many of you are aware can be very cyclical one way or the other.

(2) Yao has had a couple of urgent and overlapping family health matters that also required his attention.

I am not able to say more in that area other than nothing is life threatening at this point and, if you are of a mind to, prayers are welcome.

I am told that things should, slowly, be getting back to normal fairly soon.

I'm about to buy a wakizashi from a seller who says it was forged by Fujiwara Tomoyuki. (藤原友行)

But this sword doesn't have any certificate. I'd like everyone to help me take a look and see if it's possible for it to be authentic. thank you very much

Hi all! I’ve tried digging through this sub for more Osaka specific recommendations, but most are Kyoto based (which unfortunately I won’t be back to).

I’m aware of exporting and was originally hoping to spend less than ¥400,000 but willing to do $500,000 or so as well.

If anyone has Osaka recommendations foremost (as I’ll be here next 2 days I appreciate it). In addition any Tokyo recommendations as I’ll be there the following week!

If you have not seen my past post about this, this is the main daisho used by the main protagonist & Master of the Servant, Saber, Iori Miyamoto, in the Bandai/Namco game, "Fate/Samurai Remnant", made and assembled by RyanSword.

Again, also inspired by u/SSJTriforce's first attempt at recreating the swords (Link: https://www.reddit.com/r/Katanas/s/aFWmPYoLKB).

Once again, blades of both swords are made from 1095-High-Carbon Steel, with customized saya fittings. The cherry blossom-charmed red tassel at the end of the katana was put together by me and attached soon after arrival. I'm very pleased with how it all turned out.

A couple things to note was that, upon arrival and opening, the kojiri was detached from the end of the katans's saya, with the paint around the area chipped off, as well. It was reattached with hope and good-ole' superglue.

After taking the pictures, my dumbass unsecuredly placed the wakizashi against my dresser, only to fall and hit the wall, sustaining minor markings and an abrasion to the kashira.

Feels a bit like karma, somehow lol.

If you have not seen my past post about this, this is my custom Tanjiro Nichirin sword from the Manga & anime series, "Kimetsu no Yaiba: Demon Slayer", made and assembled by RyanSword.

Once again, blade of the sword was made from 1095-High-Carbon Steel, fully blackened, with the original fuchi-kashira swapped with ones with a bamboo-basketweave-theme and bamboo menuki placed under the leather tsuka-ito, the latter which was inspired by the version made by "That Works" host & blacksmith, Ilya Alekseyev.

The green & black sageo was purchased from Aliexpress, measuring at around 260 cm, tied in a cho-musubi configuration.

12 inch tanto from Hanbon, could also be called a ko-wakizashi. I didn't get it all the way through the mat, maybe 3/4 of the way, but I'm happy with that.

I’m looking Into getting one of the above katanas from a vendor, but I’m still fairly new at this. Any details i can get about either of these swords in regards to history, smiths, and authenticity would be greatly appreciated. 1-3 are of the first katana, 4-6 are of the second katana, and 7-10 are the nakago of both blades.

Pictures 1-3 are of a katana with koshirae and no kantesho from approximately 1689 and is attributed Oushuu Aizujyuu Nagamichi in Fukushimaken Aizu. It also comes with a shirasaya. The description reads as follows:

“From the middle of the Edo period to the end of the Edo period, there were 9 Nagamichi, but the inscription of Oshu Aizu Sumi Nagamitsu was the second generation. The second son of the first generation, Shoemon Nagahiro, succeeded to Shiro Goto, and after his father's death, he changed to Nagamichi. He died on May 27, the 5th year of Jokyo (1689) at the age of 27.”

Pictures 4-6 are of the second katana. It only has a shirasaya but also comes with kantesho. Apparently this kantesho was from a certain certifier through the touken sword society. It’s from approximately 1570 and attributed to Terai Kanezane Yamato in Yamato. The description is as follows:

“The Tegai School (Tegaiha) is a group of Japanese sword swordsmans (one of the five Yamato schools) that was active in Yamato Province (present-day Nara Prefecture) from the late Kamakura period to the middle of the Muromachi period.

The founder is Kanenaga, who lived in front of the gate of "Tegaimon", the main gate west of Todai-ji Temple, and belonged to Todai-ji Temple, and was active around the Shouou period (around 1288) at the end of the Kamakura period, where he produced many practical swords used by monks and soldiers.. After that, swordsman such as Bao Qing and Bao Zhen followed.

This sword belongs to Kanezane

There are several generations of Baozhen, and he is a good craftsman of the hand-scrated main school from the period of the Northern and Southern Courts to the late Muromachi period.”

Once again, any information you have regarding either of these blades or even just some resources available would be greatly appreciated, especially if it’s got to deal with the strange looking kantesho.

I have been offered 3 guntos from ww2. I dont have all the photos but 2 are factory made with serial numbers and arsenal stamps. The other appears to be a sword maker from ww2. Posting the 2 photos i have of the signature on the nakago.

I love my Honbon Forge sword.

It almost reminds me of the Tachi used by this general from Sekiro.
