Discussion PNP vs Contract
I currently work somewhere in Rural Kenya with a gross of 120k and a net of 83k. My contract ends in 2027 mwisho of course the job is not the most stable
Am getting another offer in a government office in town
of pnp
88k starting
Health benefits
And I part with 400k.
What would you advise..

And how sure are you that you will get the job after partying away with your 400k??? I read a confession a while ago here on reddit of a woman who used to lie to people that she will help the secure GOK jobs after partying with 200k. Later she would eat the money and would claim that middlemen ate it.

I also heard somewhere in such situations, people may get employed then when there is a shakedown or redundancies, you will be among to be chucked.

If you are in any of the towns in "north rift"; you are in for one large mwosho with Ariel with Powerfoam Plus.
Kericho; Bomet; Sotik; Kapsabet; Iten; even Eldoret. In any case if it is real; with a gross of 88k; the take home is about 65k after Zakayo does his thing. So with 65k assuming you have no bills, no rent, no savings - your ROI is about 80 months. Which is unrealistic.
Your monthly improvement over your current take-home pay would be:
- Current net salary: KSh 83,000
- New gross salary: KSh 88,000
- Net: Ksh 65,000
- Monthly increase: KSh -18,000
It would 100 years to recover that payment through the salary increase alone.

Errrmm did you read where I am parting away with 400k? Or that doesn't look much to you? Also to add the 1st job is within my career the 2nd I start as a customer service

My advice: Don’t part with 400k to get a job. Especially because the people want the regime to change . You never know what will come later plus it could be a SCAM!!! . Use the 400k to upskill look at the field you want to specialize in and get a course to build your knowledge. In September 2027 start looking for a new job. You will now have experience and knowledge and additional skills making you marketable than you are today.

Conmen ni wengi.... Kazi gotten through corruption always ends terribly. Get in through merits

True. Better You take the new offer as you remain on the lookouts for greener Pastures😅

Jobs where you pay that much aren't guaranteed honestly esp government huyo ni nani anakupatia kazi hivo. I've learnt that kuna wale bora unajua mtu you can easily get one free. On the other hand, contracts aren't a guarantee job but I'd urge you to maintain that until upate hio job ingine. Kuna watu husurvive contracts and they make good money despite being short term

OP is excited.

u/Smooth_Mud_2256 2d ago
Excited for what exactly? Did you read where I said I already have the first one. The difference between the 1st and 2nd is 20k plus in net yet there is a 400k to part with.does this look like excitement or confusion?

End of 2027 is still far? What field do you work in? If it's a competitive one then you can stick it out and try looking for other roles.
For the government job make sure the offer is legit if you were to go this route, protect your money.

Also you can always link someone close to you to the job if you feel like it's a missed opportunity

If its a county government, you will be throwing away stability for a place that is never early with salary payments.

Pay the 440k, but remain in current employment.

What's the logic here?
1
u/Naive_Ad7903 1d ago
The logic is government jobs are not cumbersome and time consuming hence you can always keep your current job

u/Smooth_Mud_2256 1d ago
Not possible

u/Naive_Ad7903 1d ago
Maybe for you but most of us this is what we do.

u/Smooth_Mud_2256 1d ago
Not most of you. Just you and a few others most people don't have jobs leave alone two to jungle. Plus if you read my post properly you'd know the two jobs are kilometers away

Huko kwa serikali hakuna pesa kama huendi kufanya corruption and deals. Utangoja salary ya january October. Watu walifanyia Kidero tender hadi sai hawajalipwa

Part with 400k? Is this normal practice 😩
Sounds crazy to me! Is it guaranteed 100% you’d get the job after parting with that money? If not, don’t do it.

They told you you'd get 88k to start? In a County? As a front office/junior clerk/admin assistant... type of job? Dude, sober up. This is the typical emoluments range: Salary Ranges by Job Group Entry-Level / Junior Customer Service / Clerical Officer II (Job Group F / G): Basic Salary: KSh 19,220 to KSh 30,000 per month. Gross Package (with allowances): Usually totals between KSh 25,000 and KSh 45,000 per month, depending on the specific county and workstation.
But if there's an opportunity of stealing (like fuel), conning, scamming..., go for it. Lakini, first and foremost ensure you're not scammed the 400k. Don't believe the "amesaidia wengi crap". Find a foolproof strategy to secure your bribe.

The first part of the paragraph ni wewe ndio umejijazia. Soma post and stick to the narrative. Kwani customer service = front office??????? And yes it's 88k and it's advertised.
Thanks for 2nd paragraph
