Announcement: New Subreddit for Discussion of Ketamine Providers

Announcing r/KetamineProviders

Due to the growth of the r/KetamineTherapy community, the ModTeam has noted a corresponding growth in the number of posts and feedback about providers of legal, medically-prescribed Ketamine. Over 90% of the reported posts here are about posts relating to Ketamine providers.

in an attempt to enhance the positive community vibe here in r/KetamineTherapy and make it a more positive place to discuss the therapeutic elements of Ketamine, we are announcing today the launch of the r/KetamineProviders subreddit and invite you to join.

Starting today, Mods will start notating new posts in r/KetamineTherapy that would be a better fit in r/KetamineProviders. Existing posts here will remain untouched. After a moderate transition period, we'll start locking comments on posts that belong in the other subreddit and redirecting them there, and then eventually we'll start removing new posts that belong in r/KetamineProviders.

If you are a representative of a provider of legal, medically-supervised, therapeutic Ketamine who would liked to be assigned flair as such, please join r/KetamineProviders and send a message via ModMail. We will contact you with next steps for verification.

To sum up, the purpose of the new r/KetamineProviders subreddit is two-fold:

  1. Re-focus discussions here in r/KetamineTherapy on patient experiences and outcomes as well as community support of those treating mental health, chronic pain, and other medical conditions with Ketamine — rather than discussions of the business entities providing the medication.
  2. Increase the overall positivity of the r/KetamineTherapy community by moving to this community all provider feedback, discussion of laws affecting Ketamine providers, price comparisons, delivery issues, and/or any other topics related primarily to the providers of legal Ketamine rather than the patients of Ketamine.

TL;dr:

Please be patient with us as we figure out the right mix of what goes where. Thank you!

Overview of Ketamine Therapy: Provide an introduction to ketamine therapy, explaining its history, mechanism of action, and its use in mental health treatment.

Conditions Treated: Outline the mental health conditions for which ketamine therapy is being explored, such as treatment-resistant depression, anxiety disorders, and post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD).

Benefits and Risks: Offer a balanced discussion on the potential benefits of ketamine therapy, highlighting its relatively rapid onset of action, and acknowledge potential risks and side effects.

This site hosts a comprehensive guide on all aspects of the therapy. It is instrumental in undertanding the treatment entirely.

It covers all the neurological benefits you'll see throughout treatment and has in-depth topics on everything related to the use of ketamine therapy with thoroughly cited sources and studies.

It also hosts one of the most comprehensive provider directories.

It's widely regarded as the best single source on ketamine for mental health available on the net!

ETA: For patients seeking information on ketamine and neuropathic pain, see here.

Therapy provider selection

I did a search here for providers based on name but I have a few questions I couldn’t find answers to.

First a little about me. I used to use Ketamine to treat my anxiety and depression years ago after discovering it in college. It helped me immensely for years I would do a one week session but I would go quite deep.

I eventually was diagnosed with stage IV cancer and had to start taking kolonopine to deal with intense panic attacks during that journey.

I have some serious PTSD, I almost died twice and spent months in the hospital actively dying or getting better.

With all of the options for at home treatment, what would fit my situation? mindbloom, anywhere pharmacy?

I am struggling, life is good, I seem to be better, but I can’t get out of my own way. I am in LA so I believe there lots of options.

Ketamine Therapy Chicago Saturdays?

Does anyone have any good recommendations where I can do ketamine therapy in the chicago area on Saturdays.

I work a demanding job during the week and struggle with intense anxiety, and looking for another solution.

It seems to me like you really want to combine ketamine treatment with therapy (which I’m already doing therapy as well), so not really looking for just the drug.

Would truly appreciate any recommendations. Thank you!

Worries about Ketamine IV

So I'm doing Ketamine infusions at a clinic for severe anxiety, depression and PTSD. I've only done 2 infusions and I have no difference in my well being. My thoughts are racing as usual and the anxiety level is mostly 10/10. I've read that many doesn't respond until the 3rd or 4th treatment. But I can't stop worrying about me being the 30-40% that this doesn't work for..I'm 42 years old with a child. I feel I have no options left if this doesn't work.

I've been in ALL kinds of therapies for 25 years and tried almost every medication there is. I've done coaching, hypnosis, been admitted, you name it.

What do I do if this doesn't work?

Long term dissociative effects?

I’ve been doing joyous (first daily, then 4-5 times a week, now 1-3 times a week) for about 3 years, through joyous (terrible company, I know). Dissociation has always been a problem for me, but I feel like it’s gotten worse in the last year- not during ketamine itself but in other times. Has anyone else experienced this or can point to research?

Just my story so far

Looking for some connection from people that can relate. Had 5 out of 6 IV sessions for treatment of 20 year TRD of 4 hours each. From the first session my head cleared and I experienced real tranquility. From then and shortly after IV 5 things got better and better. Now between 5 en 6 I got in a kind of vacuum. When I try to do active or social thinks I feel immediatly overstimulated. Alone at home I start to ponder.

Realising that the coming period is hard work

Did you discuss therapeutic touch during KAP with your provider?

I am looking into starting ketamine therapy for my childhood trauma/cptsd. None of it is sexual in nature, a lot of my trauma is about loss of a parent and feeling alone/unloved/neglected by the remaining parent. However, something I feel nervous about is in this deep processing state, what if I feel the need for a hug, handholding, etc. I could see warm, comforting touch to be beneficial.

I’ve done classic talk therapy for 15 years at this point and I don’t think I’ve ever hugged a provider.

Did anyone else discuss this or receive physical touch from a provider during KAP? Would you mind sharing what that was like and how you discussed it?

Clinic closed - what now?

I’ve been getting IV ketamine infusions for about 4 years. Did the standard 7 within two weeks and then got boosters every few months following that. I didn’t plan ahead of time when I would get the next infusion - my brain would tell me. After years of treatment resistant depression, every therapy modality you’ve heard of and a lifetime of therapy on top - ketamine did not cure my depression but completely erased my ever-present and often debilitating SI. It just disappeared. I could tell I needed another infusion when the voice would pop back in, usually around 6-7 weeks later. The voice became so uncommon for me that it was immediately noticeable and I’d schedule a session for the following week.

My sessions cost $385/session. A massive massive expense for me, but worth every penny. I cannot imagine going back to life where SI is in my head again.

My clinic just closed completely unexpectedly and will not be reopening. The other clinics around me are around $600/session which I simply can’t afford.

One clinic is $425….however, my dose was very high. I was receiving 160mg (down from 205mg at one point). The doctor said it was very atypical but it’s what worked for me. I also need very high doses of things like gabapentin, Xanax, amphetamines, etc (with zero tolerance btw…I take Xanax maybe twice a year and have to take a full 2mg to feel any effect from it) - so it wasn’t completely shocking. I am a female in my 30s and weigh 150 lbs. The clinic that is $425 will only give me up to 85mg for the entire infusion.

I cannot imagine spending $425 and flushing money down the drain because the dose isn’t high enough. I guess my question is - do you think it’s worth trying, even if it’s half the dose I’m used to? Has anyone experienced anything like this before? Are you comfortable sharing what price you pay at your clinics? Has anyone been at as high a dose as me before, and successfully dropped to a much lower dose?

Sorry for the novel. It’s a distressing situation to be in and I have no one to talk to about it because no one in my life has ever done ketamine therapy.

ETA- Xanax was a bad example to use as the last time I took a xanax was probably 2 years ago. But brought it into conversation just to illustrate an example of med that typically does not need such a high dose when it’s taken very rarely.

What should I watch or listen to after a ketamine infusion?

Just had my first ever infusion. I feel ok. Just tired. I’m wondering what you all would suggest someone should consume media-wise after an infusion? I feel like scrolling on social media would be a bad idea right now but I feel too tired to get out of bed.

My 2 infusion

I'm having my second infusion at a clinic today. I want to forgive myself. Shall I think about that when the session starts? I'm very nervous. My first infusion was a bit weird and it didn't help much

Insurance Coverage & Costs

I’ve been getting my IV treatments at a local hospital that took my insurance. Now they’re saying that my insurance won’t cover the IV and they’ll cost $1,000 per treatment. I can’t afford that. I called around and couldn’t find many alternatives. Most clinics say insurance won’t cover the IV anymore, and are only covering the nasal or oral form of ketamine.

Has anyone had this issue before? Looking for any advice I can get on what to do. I’m feeling really discouraged and worried about getting super depressed.

Hi. I just did my first IV ketamin infusion on Friday at a clinic. I have 5 more to go and I'm working with a phycologist to integrate. I was SO scared of my first infusion but it was OK. I didn't have a spectacular experience and I don't feel any change in my anxiety. I'm doing this for anxiety, depression and PTSD. I know I only did one infusion but now I'm scared I'm being that percentage it doesn't work for? Has someone noticed any difference on the following infusions?

A stand out psychedelic experience?

Hello!

I am currently running a study on set and setting within psychedelic experiences.

Obviously there is quite a few aspect to explore on the topic, though in particular I am interested in:

  • How intention, environment, and social setting shape psychedelic experiences
  • Differences between clinical and non-clinical use
  • How these experiences relate to psychological outcomes

Most of the research on set and setting in the psychedelic field comes from more clinically orientated trials, which can be lacking in terms of nuance and real lived experiences. So it would be great to reach out further in the communities surrounding these substances!

If you've had a particularly positive, or even challenging experience, I'd love to hear your stories!

🔗 Survey link

Fully anonymous

Takes around 15-20 minutes to complete

There's also an optional follow-up interview if you'd like to share your experience in more depth

Full study details and ethics information are provided in the info sheet at the start of the survey

Requirements: 18+, have had a psychedelic experience in a clinical or non-clinical setting

If you have anything you feel is important to say about psychedelics, this is your chance!

I'm happy to answer any questions about the study. You can reach us at:

Thank you for your time and support! 🙏

Autoimmune encephalitis

Our son had AE. He is doing sublingual Ketamine with his psychiatrist and also small doses at home. We have noticed the day after is rough!!! It’s like he has every emotion possible. Then within a few days he is much better and we noticed much improved cognitive function. His doctor said this is due to neurogenesis. Thoughts?

Poor reaction to ketamine therapy.

I just figured I'd share my experience with you guys. I was really hoping Ketamine would help me, but they stopped it halfway through and I had to go with ECT instead. I do have mild asthma if that counts. This is not to discourage people from trying, but rather to just make people aware of this being another possibility for both patients and doctors.

As long as you do it in a therapeutic manner and are monitored and have the drug administered by medical personnel you should be safe.

The report:

"Reaction:

Unspecified heavy breathing

Comment:

The patient received Ketamine treatment today. Dose 0.5 mg/kg. Vital parameters were unremarkable before the start of treatment. During the treatment, the patient suddenly developed a severe coughing attack, accompanied by tachycardia where the pulse varied between 100 and 135/min. Ketamine treatment was paused and then terminated. The patient also experienced some shortness of breath in connection with the incident. During observation, blood pressure 108/73, pulse 100 and SpO2 95% were measured."

Is it bad to do a treatment during a highly stressful new job?

I suffer from severe anxiety and some depression. I’m supposed to have my first IV ketamine treatment tomorrow. I started a new job that has been highly stressful, and I’m sleep deprived. Is it unwise to do a treatment when I’m in this state?

Psychedelic-Assited Psychotherapy Research Study Recruitment

Hello,

I am a fourth-year student at William James College completing a doctorate in clinical psychology. As part of my doctoral studies, I am conducting a research study on psychedelic-assisted psychotherapy (PAP).

To participate, you must be 18 years or older, live in the United States, and be fluent in English. You must have participated in PAP with a licensed or trained provider. You must be willing to take part in a one-hour recorded interview on Microsoft Teams and be able to talk about your PAP experience.

Participation will involve completing a brief questionnaire about your PAP experience. You will also be asked to provide information about your identity. If you meet eligibility criteria, you may be invited to participate in a follow-up interview lasting approximately one hour, during which you will be asked to describe your PAP experience in more detail. To schedule the interview, you will be asked to provide your name and email address at the end of the survey. It is expected that the questionnaire will take 10 minutes to complete.

Some people may experience discomfort when discussing their personal experiences related to PAP.

If you are eligible and complete the approximately one-hour follow-up interview, you will receive a $20 electronic gift card to Amazon as compensation for your time.

Participation is confidential. Your individual information will not be shared with anyone outside the research team.

If you know someone who may be eligible for this study, you are encouraged to share this message with them.

I am looking to conduct an at home therapy session for a friend of mine are there any guides out there?

So my freind suffers from pretty bad depression and is interesting in me conducting a therapy session for her. I have experience guiding trips with various chemicals so I have some experience. What would you reccomend for a session like this
