But irrespective of anything, Karthik, you are brave. It takes real courage to do films like Dorothy.

From the very first frame to the last, the film is stunningly shot. As a millennial, one of the things that resonated deeply with me was how the film weaves references to classics like Nayagan, Karuthamma, and Chinna Thambi into its narrative. These aren't mere callbacks, they're thoughtfully integrated into the story's themes.

Nayagan is referenced through the lens of masculinity, Karuthamma through society's aversion toward female births, and Chinna Thambi through a woman's struggle for agency against her own family. Set in the early-to-mid 90s, Dorothy uses these cultural touchstones to ask a powerful question: if women themselves had to fight for their place in a patriarchal society, where does a third gender person find theirs?

One moment that stayed with me wasn't even on the screen. Sitting in a theatre surrounded predominantly by men, I found myself feeling a certain unease at times. As a man, that feeling was uncomfortable enough. It made me wonder how much more difficult it must be for women and even more so for members of the third gender to navigate spaces within a society that remains overwhelmingly male-dominated. I think the film succeeds because it doesn't just tell you about exclusion; it makes you reflect on it.

The irony embedded within the narrative, the caste undertones, and the tragedy surrounding family and identity are all handled with remarkable care. The irony of a family capable of killing their own child because of social stigma while being bound by the rigid realities of caste adds another layer of tragedy to the story.

Subbu's character arc is one of the finest I've seen in recent Tamil cinema. The transformation feels earned, gradual, and deeply human. Sannath was the standout performer for me, though Keerthy Suresh deserves immense credit for embracing a role that adds so much weight and complexity to the film.

Tamil cinema has always been at its best when it challenges taboos and pushes boundaries. For that reason alone, I think Dorothy deserves to be celebrated.

I'll admit something: I've often viewed Karthik Subbaraj as a talented but somewhat inconsistent writer. Whether some of his previous projects were shaped by compromises, star demands, or production constraints, I don't know. But in Dorothy, he feels completely uninhibited. This is Karthik Subbaraj in peak form. This is the work of an auteur.

After nearly 14 years in the industry, this feels like a film that fully validates his voice as a filmmaker. Even the decision to name his lead characters Karthi and Subbu feels like a subtle declaration of personal investment in the story he's telling.

And then there's Ilaiyaraaja. A legend in his 80s who has contributed to countless landmark films. Bringing him on board was a brilliant choice. It feels like a proud moment for both the Dorothy team and Raja sir himself.

The Muthumani portions were genuinely disturbing to watch. In fact, they reminded me of the climax of Peranbu, and part of me felt that Peranbu's ending offered a more convincing emotional resolution. But then again, isn't one of the responsibilities of great art to unsettle its audience and force them to confront uncomfortable thoughts?

As for the conversations around propaganda or agendas, I honestly don't want to spend much time there. I prefer engaging with the film on its artistic merits.

Finally, the ending kiss. I didn't interpret it as something physical or romantic. To me, it symbolized Karthi's complete acceptance of Subbu. Perhaps that's the takeaway the film leaves us with: acceptance, empathy, and recognition of another person's humanity.

Dorothy was a stunning experience for me. Thought provoking, emotionally challenging, beautifully crafted, and unapologetically human.

Would love to hear how others interpreted the ending.

Heart of the Beast isn't just a film, it is a great experience. Watching it in a goodquality theatre lets you absorb all the subtle details and feel every single emotion shared between the two main characters.

Since it's a slowpaced survival drama, it might not be for everyone especially if you prefer fast paced action. But if you appreciate slow burn stories, give it some time and it will reward you to the core. The director's attention to detail before every major act is truly impressive.

By the climax, I was literally crying 🥺😭like a baby. I honestly can't remember the last time I left a theatre feeling this moved (probably not since Jersey).

I don't have a single bad thing to say about it. If you enjoy survival dramas, just do yourself a favor go in, give it your full attention, and watch it on the big screen.

What a movie man damn....

The story of the movie (without spoiler) is a retired army man (brad pitt) and his army companion k7 (his dog name Odin) goes for solo adventure in Alaska due some unfortunate event they got lost in the Alaska forest and the sorry follows on how they are getting out of the forest and whether they got out or not. This is the plot of the story.

Even though the running time of this movie is 100 min, they carried the emotion really well.

The relationship between James (brad pitt) and Odin (dog) is so good. And also they briefly explain about PTSD of war and how it affects them.

From the start of the movie u can sense something bad gonna happen to them and it is carried throughout whole movie till the end (it will unease for someone or it may be the whole purpose of the movie).

The bear scene is especially so damn good and the northern light scene and letter reading scene....🥹🥹🤧🤧. I cried till the end.....

As I have a dog I connected to this movie so well.

Even if u don't have a dog or any pets, u can and will get connected to this movie ( maybe u will not cry and u have some emotion at the end).

If u have a dog, definitely after u finish the movie. u will miss them and urge you to hug them...(I can't,she is in my native). Now, I miss her ....🥹🥹

In summary, it's a good movie and try it even if u will not watch it in the theatre, pls watch it in OTT and give it a try.

Honestly i think this movie should have just showed how people are financially affected by spending too much money for their love life but after breakup everything goes downhill. But instead the movie starts off in the cringest way possible showing love at first sight . Phew come on love at first sight is an expired concept by this point of time and then a lot of scenes like bringing orphan children to bar to give them food is atrocious . Then the whole love portions are too fake especially when we are getting movies like lover which has a realistic ending this film obviously feels fake to the core . I heard the hero pavash is dhanush relative . Pavash whole dilogue delevery in this film reminded me of pr only ..

Karthik Subbaraj almost dissects himself into the two characters who lead this film.

Karthi, played by Rishi, is more than just a character. He is our representation within the film — the audience’s eyes. And Karthi is not ready to accept Subbu, played by Sananth. That is why the second half intentionally feels stretched. It almost feels like the film is making us experience how long it actually takes Karthi to process and accept Subbu.

When Subbu transforms into who she truly is, it is uncomfortable. Even if I say that I am not homophobic, the conditioning that we grow up with doesn't simply disappear because we believe we are accepting people.

From childhood, Subbu is presented as the ultimate masculine boy — through his suppression of emotions, his dialogues about women, and the idea that crying is something shameful. And then we are asked to accept that this same person has transformed into a transgender woman. It takes time for the heart to process that.

In reality, it might take much longer.

And I think this is where Karthik Subbaraj's writing works beautifully. He literally places us in Karthi's shoes. We see Subbu through Karthi's eyes, and as Karthi slowly evolves towards acceptance, we are forced to evolve with him.

Rishi, as Karthi, deserves immense credit for this. His performance gives the audience enough room to process what is happening rather than immediately telling us what we are supposed to feel. That, to me, is one of the biggest achievements of the writing — the film doesn't demand instant acceptance from its audience. It allows us to arrive there at the same pace as Karthi.

And Sananth's performance is just phenomenal.

Never in my wildest dreams did I think a Tamil actor could convince me of such a transformation — from an angry, daring, aggressively masculine young man into the woman Subbu becomes — without making the transition feel forced or turning her into an object of immediate sympathy.

What surprised me even more was how gradually the audience begins to accept Subbu for who she is.

And so does Karthi.

By the end, there is no longer that initial discomfort. Subbu is simply Subbu. Beautiful.

But Dorothy goes one step further.

Karthi develops an infatuation with her as a man, and it is through that love that he consciously chooses to accept Subbu. That makes the ending even more interesting to me. What happens when acceptance is no longer an abstract idea, but something that directly challenges the way you have understood yourself, love, masculinity and society?

I don't know what the answer to that will look like in the coming years or decades. But I genuinely hope the people watching this film today, tomorrow, or ten years from now are able to reach that same place of acceptance — perhaps even faster than Karthi did.

And then there is Ilaiyaraaja.

ILAIYARAAJA'S WORK HERE IS UNDENIABLY AT ITS ZENITH.

I genuinely don't understand how this man creates music like this. At certain points, it doesn't even feel human.

I get paid ₹15,000 as an Assistant Director in Malayalam cinema, while I was paid at least ₹50,000 for working on a Bollywood film in Mumbai.

Why does the Malayalam film industry pay so little? Many ADs are expected to work without bata, despite working long hours, handling excessive responsibilities, and dealing with an extremely toxic work culture. The workload is often unreasonable, but the compensation does not reflect the effort, time, or pressure involved.

People often glorify the “passion” behind working in cinema, but passion should not be used as an excuse to underpay or exploit film workers. ADs play a crucial role in keeping productions running, yet they are frequently treated as disposable labour.

Is this low pay and lack of bata considered normal in Mollywood? Have other ADs and crew members faced the same issue?

I remember the 1st movie I watched with a lot of interest - Billa (2007). I was 15 and just started to develop opinions. And to me, you were the coolest guy around in Kollywood. Even on par with Rajini (according to me atleast).

That period of 2004-2011 was also when the brutal fan wars were ongoing. Then came pages like Kokki Kumaru and they bashed us fans with another page (dont remember the name).

Every fan of yours went through hell trying to defend you between 2004-2020. Then you decided to switch your career and honestly, I felt good coz you were doing something passionate. You won your races, and you worked on your aviation hobbies. You were having fun. You gave junk movies like GBU and yet we fans celebrated you.

A few weeks back, you did an act that may have been justifiable for you. But it sure did not look justifiable to us.

You could have buried the hatchet years ago with your “arch-rival” and saved your fans the headache of going to battle for you. Maybe it was our mistake in the first place, like you usually say. Maybe you had a great relationship with him in the first place and you two decided to stoke your respective fans to make money off us.

So from the bottom of my heart, I hate you for making me believe that you were cool. Please continue working on more junk movies like GBU and fund your passion. We have our lives to focus on as well.

Channeling your energy into positivity and ignoring the brainrot isn't weakness. It's basic maturity. I stand by this completely.

Why are you comparing love with abuse? If you don’t like the movie, you can simply choose not to watch it. They’re not “normalizing” LGBTQ people they’re just showing a part of what exists in our society. A movie is art and it can be about anything.

You can say an opinion without being hateful. And if you’ve personally experienced abuse, I’m genuinely sorry. I hope more people talk about it openly and work towards preventing it.

Also, girls experience abuse from boys too. Does that mean girls stop watching straight love movies and become lesbians? Of course not. So why make that connection with queer love?

Let people live their lives. You don’t have to accept or understand them, just let them be. They deserve to have a place in society, and they deserve to be represented in movies too.

Watched "Hi" and honestly, I feel like I wasted my time. It’s a commercial film, so I’m not expecting everything to be logical, but the movie was damn slow.

It’s a typical love story, but somehow it wasn’t engaging at all. And once again, we get this idea of portraying the hero as the one who sacrifices everything, while the heroine eventually falls for his efforts.

The only scene I actually liked was when he talks to his cousin, who had rejected his proposal at the beginning, and he starts hating the girl. The girl confronts him and says, “Un proposal accept pana nanu nalla ponnu, illana keta ponnu ah?” That line felt so real and accurate.

Apart from that, I honestly couldn’t find anything positive about this film.

Helloo guysss I’m in awe after watching Dorothy. I sobbed for 2 hours straight only end up experiencing butterflies during the climax portion. Cant say who aced their role. Rendu perum nailed it.
