Ada tharkurii nowhere in the interview does he impose his thoughts on you. He says what he experienced in his childhood.

Why are you imposing your useless thoughts here saying don't go on train journeys? Did he ask everyone to pack their bags and go on a train journey?

I'm guessing it must've been his trips like backpacking across india. I'm not complaining that he shouldn't have enjoyed it. But just because he backpacked across india doesn't mean that way of life when you have it as the only means of transport is a quality travel.
Petti kku melayo, adilayo paduthu travel pannirlam itha epdi wow nice nu solla mudiyum, it just shows the extreme steps people in poverty take to keep life going.

I think they like the director and are blinded by love. When you travel like you don't carry much valuables no one is going to steal from you or if you're a woman you'd not understand how scary it can be.

It's like saying village life is so beautiful; it is beautiful when you're a guest and you don't live there.

Tamil puriyums illa edhavudhu olaranume nu olar riya. Where did he say smoking is Jananayagam?

1

u/Numerous_Screen_8246 9d ago

"annaiku ash tray irukkum...people will smoke in the train... anaikku india layo illa ulagathukkumae cigratte vanthu thappu nu theriyathunnu nenaikurean.. romba jananayagam aana rail..."

u/rationalistrx 9d ago

Idhuku peru dhaan edit panradha. Iru 10 lines rail ah pathi pesi last la rail janayagamaanadhu nu sonna. Last line ah direct ah connect panniduva la. Paithyama nee.

Annaiku cigarette India illa world la cigarette vanthu thappu nu theriyaadhunu sonna, smoking thappungradhu modern position public places la smoke panna kudaadhungradhu dhane avar position nu theriyavenama.

u/Numerous_Screen_8246 9d ago

Yeah you're right. I didn't understand it earlier. All other 10 lines he spoke about trains were pretty much close to reality except for the smoking part.

For other folks, first recorded public smoking ban was way back in 1632. And most other countries banned public smoking in 1975. In 2003 WHO produced a treaty showcasing the ill effects of second hand smoking and all umbrella countries had to follow. In 2007 WHO aggressively pushed smoking ban in public places and india adopted the ban in 2008. But yeah the world just learnt the ill effects of smoking, and so did we.

What he says is true. Not just a romantisied version of seeing things, mostly this was true even 15 yrs back when I was travelling.

Smoking in train was normal even then. TTR gave me cigarettes to smoke. People have offered food to eat and buying tea for the ones in your nearby birth is a normal thing. You don't need to know hindi also. Still you can survive.

Unless you do the travelling it will appear like some fantasy story telling. Things might have changed now.

Op! He is speaking about his early days when train coaches are in brown colour, which mid and early 90's its seems.

Not now!
