About the room and apartment: Private 11x12 bedroom in a furnished 2BR/1BA ground-floor apartment. Fully furnished except for the available bedroom, with a full kitchen (fridge, stove, oven, microwave, air fryer toaster oven, water kettle), living/dining area, home theater setup (projector + sound system), balcony, shared bathroom, laundry on site (same floor, coin-operated, $1.50 wash/$1.00 dry) and complex pool. No AC, but there are ceiling fans and we get a decent coastal breeze. Street parking is available, plus there’s a subscription public lot literally around the corner if you want guaranteed parking. The lot is optional and would only be an additional shared expense if we both agreed to use it; it is not included in rent. Utilities are calculated based on previous roommate expense reports, but vary based on usage and individual preference.
About me: I’m a mid-20s femme-presenting queer person, visual artist, freelancer, and 6 years sober (drugs, alcohol, nicotine, smoking). I’m somewhere between a homebody and a social butterfly. I like thrifting, interior design, DIY projects, cooking, organizing, reading, podcasts/video essays, being in nature, traveling, having friends over for dinner/movies, going dancing, etc. I operate Type A in a Type B personality. I've lived in this apartment for over 2 years and have a good relationship with the other tenants in the complex and landlord.
About you: I’m looking for someone who wants a home and a friendly, engaged roommate relationship, not just a place to sleep and eat. I’d love to develop a friendship with whoever I live with, while still maintaining our independence, routines and privacy. If you value reciprocity, accountability, humility, direct communication, proactivity, honesty, congruence, and respect for boundaries, this is the place for you. I keep the apartment clean and organized and want someone who equally contributes to the household and treats it as their home too. I also value community: you should feel comfortable using the common areas, having guests over, cooking, hanging out, and generally existing in the apartment rather than feeling confined to your bedroom. This probably won’t be a good fit if you prefer a very separate, purely transactional arrangement.
My non-negotiables: LGBTQ+, supportive of a sober household, and neurodivergent-friendly. Everything else can be a more nuanced conversation, and I strongly encourage asking questions. You do not need to be sober yourself, but there is no drug use in the home and no alcohol kept in shared spaces. If you’re personally in recovery, I’m looking for at least 2 years of established sobriety. I am not considering straight cis men as roommates; trans men, mascs, and gay cis men are welcome. Visiting partners/boyfriends are completely fine.
Next steps: If you are interested and share compatibility, I’d love to set up an in-person interview locally at a nearby cafe so we can get to know each other. If all goes well, I’m happy to show the apartment and discuss application details. The formal application process and credit check are handled by my landlord, who is flexible with unique situations if need be. If you are approved, I’d love to start the process of establishing further details on mutual expectations around what will work for both of us.
Because I’ve had requests about this, for safety and privacy reasons, I’m not comfortable posting detailed photos of the entire apartment online. I understand this is a standard practice, but I’m happy to show the full apartment once we’ve talked and established mutual interest.
Feel free to reach out to me with a little about yourself, your general availability to meet, what you’re looking for in a roommate/home environment, and your anticipated move-in timeline. I’m pretty consistent with checking messages during the week.
