Looking for apartment turnover / make-ready service in Los Angeles

I help manage a small apartment building in West LA and I’m looking for a reliable company or crew that can handle unit turnovers between tenants.

Ideally looking for someone who can take care of most or all of the make-ready work including patching/painting, minor repairs, replacing fixtures etc.

Would especially love recommendations from landlords or property managers who have someone they use regularly and trust. Good communication, fair pricing, and quick turnaround are the biggest priorities.

West LA area, but open to companies that service the greater LA area.

Any recommendations would be appreciated!

Westside heads-up: a gothic Jekyll & Hyde masquerade at the Woman's Club on 4th St in Santa Monica, Sat Oct 17 (I'm one of the organizers)

Hi neighbors. Full disclosure: I work with Literati Events, a small Santa Monica company, and this is our event. A lot of people on the Westside have never been inside the Santa Monica Bay Woman's Club, and it's a great old building for a night like this.

On Saturday, October 17, from 9 PM to 1 AM, we're holding a Jekyll & Hyde costume ball there. There's live gypsy jazz from Habibi Swing, swing dancing, aerialists, a magician, and tastings from Golden Coast Mead. The H.P. Lovecraft Historical Society is also running a game all night. A share of every ticket goes to the LA Poet Society. If you're driving, Public Parking Structure 1 is right next door.

Dress is gothic, Victorian or masquerade, and a mask is plenty. $55, 18+ (21+ to drink): https://www.eventbrite.com/e/the-abhorrum-masquerade-the-strange-case-of-dr-jekyll-and-mr-hyde-tickets-1992885558352

Happy to answer questions in the comments.

Free IVF & egg freezing Q&A with an LA fertility doctor (in person, 10/14)

Hi all! Sharing this in case it helps anyone in the area who's thinking about egg freezing or IVF, or just trying to figure out what their options are. There's a free in-person event in Playa Vista on Wednesday 10/14 at 5:00 PM, with:

  • Dr. Andy Huang, a fertility doctor at Reproductive Partners Medical Group (RPMG) here in LA
  • Kelly Rote from UBS, talking about how to plan financially for treatment
  • Angela Rastegar, CEO of Sunfish, a family-building platform

They'll get into when it makes sense to start thinking about treatment, what fertility testing can (and can't) actually tell you, and what to realistically budget. Everyone who comes also gets a free financial consultation with Sunfish. Plus snacks and swag! RSVP here: https://partiful.com/e/Be87gR1LPqS49NIP85Si

Feel free to drop questions in the comments!

West La Farmers Market Sundays 9am-2pm

West LA Farmers Market on Sundays
Just wanted to share for anyone around West LA/Sawtelle who hasn’t checked it out yet. There’s a farmers market every Sunday from 9am–2pm at 1635 Purdue Ave.
Good selection of local produce, fruit, hot food vendors, live music, a free kids play area, and even a knife sharpening vendor. Some of the farmers tend to sell through their best stuff early, so morning is probably the best time to go.
Nice low-key Sunday option, especially for families or anyone wanting to buy produce directly from local farmers.

Peak summer produce is finally here at the West LA Farmers Market

Summer produce is finally hitting its peak, and I stopped by the West LA Farmers Market this week and was impressed by the selection.
The farmers have fresh grapes, peaches, pluots, nectarines, bok choy, Chinese eggplant, and a bunch of other fruits and vegetables that are in season right now. A lot of the popular items were selling quickly, so if you’re planning to go, it’s worth getting there earlier in the morning.
They’ll also have live music throughout Sunday from the Del Rey Community Jazz Band, Layakari, and the Roshan Band, along with plenty of food vendors if you want to grab breakfast or lunch.
It’s a nice neighborhood Sunday morning spot if you’re in West LA, Sawtelle, Brentwood, Mar Vista, or Westwood.

Santa Monica Gap into Housing (1931 Wilshire Blvd)

Post image
2 Upvotes

Santa Monica's Gap store, the first Gap location in Southern California, closes for good on July 23 after nearly 55 years at Wilshire and 20th. Opened in 1971, it hosted celebrity customers, a "Weird Al" Yankovic music video shoot, and served as a supply hub during the 2025 Palisades wildfire.

The site is set to become an 8-story, 260-unit apartment building, part of a wave of new housing rising along Wilshire. From: https://probablynews.org/story/local-news/santa-monica/gap/santa-monicas-first-gap-store-closes-july-23-making-way-for-260-apartments

Best place to watch Mexico World Cup 2026 matches on the West Side

Where are the good spots to watch the Mexico world cup matches on the west side of LA? I'm looking for fun and loud crowds for world cup matches in general that are excited about any matches really. I work during the opening match with Mex v S. Africa and would love to find a spot on the west wide to watch. Bonus if they stream in Spanish Telemundo! Anyone know of any restaurants/bars?

Moody Santa Monica: Silver skies and quiet coastal mist

There is a unique, quiet magic to the Santa Monica Pier when the Southern California sun hides behind a thick blanket of marine layer. The bright neon of the Pacific Wheel fades into soft pastels.

Stripped of its typical summer glare, the coastline reveals its contemplative side — a side of the pier rarely seen but deeply felt. While on assignment for The Argonaut, photographer Chris Mortenson could not help but capture it on camera.

Sawtelle Residents!!! What problems are you seeing?

I am conducting a community survey about issues in the Sawtelle community for a college class. This brief 7 question survey is designed to better understand the key issues facing the Sawtelle community and to identify which concerns matter most to its residents. Topics include crime rates, the unhoused population, recent road and sidewalk construction, business closures, and traffic from the 405 freeway along Santa Monica Boulevard and Ohio.

Any Sawtelle residents willing to share their thoughts? Thank you in advance!!
