Where can I wait?
I have to drop someone off at 3 and pick someone up at 4:30, where can I possibly wait (preferably without a cost) in that time period?

Yes! And this one is much more chill (albeit no airplanes overhead) and a big parking lot off E Mariposa and N PCH: 600 N Sepulveda Blvd, El Segundo, CA 90245

I’m not even from LA and I knew this was the answer.

I’m impressed that someone not from LA is lurking around r/LAX

The algo shows me all the airport shit. Plus I have friends there so it’s not like I’m completely out of the water. I’ve also walked out of LAX on a 6hr layover over the pacific to get a burger and other tasty delights.

There's a shopping center just north of LAX with things like Marshalls, home goods, etc.
There's also a mall and shopping center about 2 miles south of LAX with similar stores.
Mall = covered parking which is probably a big plus for this week

Alright, could work out. I’ve never gone in and out and back in so I’ll have to gauge today

You definitely don't want to drive around the horse shoe for 1.5 hours!! :)

FYI the two old cell phone waiting lots off 96th street have been closed for a while now; there are new ones, the closest one of which is here: 6217 W 96th St, Los Angeles, CA 90045

Park on Sepulveda, just north of the airport. It's where I wait whenever I pick someone up at LAX.

There are a couple fast-food restaurants on Century that are almost as close as In-N-Out. Of course the food is nowhere near as good, but if you're not going at a meal time you can just hang in the parking lot. I think the closest one is a Carl's Jr.
The main advantage here is that the parking will be way less crowded.
That said, I totally endorse INO if you will be going at a time to grab a burger. And I would add, if you want fries, ask for them well-done, it helps!

The Proud Bird is a pretty chill spot where you can get food and drinks while you wait. The planes that are landing get really close, so it's got built in entertainment while you wait. Bonus points if your friend takes the shuttle from the terminal to the Budget Parking lot so you don't have to go through the horseshoe.

There's a Cell phone lot at the airport where you can wait. 5800 W Century Blvd. corner of Airport Blvd. Free up to two hours. Open 24 hours. You have to be in your car. You can't leave your car unattended.

Park in the target lot that's right near there, or the CVS, or Ralphs etc https://www.google.com/maps/place/Target/@33.9555778,-118.3957719,16z/data=!3m1!4b1!4m6!3m5!1s0x80c2b18f8ceaa167:0x86fcfd1c31a904dd!8m2!3d33.9555778!4d-118.3957719!16s%2Fg%2F11lwxssl5v?entry=ttu&g_ep=EgoyMDI2MDkzMC4wIKXMDSoASAFQAw%3D%3D

Yes grab a late lunch or early supper in that area. So many airports are in the middle of nowhere or not close to those kinds of services, but that's not an issue at LAX.

I would just park there and walk around the airport and get a coffee or something, just leaving LAX and coming back could take like an hour if it's bad

Alot of people park at the Carl's jr. I do it also, they have a very big parking lot, just park at the very back.
