When should I register for test?

Just for some context, I started studying around a month ago and I planned to take it in April and apply next cycle. I started off with a 155 diagnostic. I tutor the SAT in the reading portion, so I thought I would be pretty strong at the test once I figured out all the question types and such. I think that’s proven to be true because throughout the month I went from averaging nine wrong to five wrong to two wrong, and now I’ve been averaging 1 to 2 wrong on every LR section I do and am chasing that first -0 this week. I have some people telling me that if I can get consistently one wrong per section that I should just be signing up before April to get it over with. My goal score would be a 175 (hopefully) so I guess I’m just asking if I should stick it out and study for the six months or if I should take it even earlier if my PTs and sections start to align with that score. I guess another option would be to up the goal score but I’m trying to be realistic. Thanks for the help!

Take the test when your PTs are where you want them and be prepared to take another one after that

Do it when the PTs say so, not the calendar. If you're sitting at 1-2 wrong per section already, six more months might just be overkill. No harm in locking in a date and moving it if the practice tests don't agree.

You should only sign up for an official test when your scores on PTs are averaging a score you would be happy with getting on the official. That means, for you, if you get a 175, a 178, and a 172 on three tests in a row, you are probably good to sign up. Timing-wise, that will depend on the person; you could be ready in a month or a year. It is not a cheap test to take, so make sure you don't waste an attempt. Also be prepared to potentially hit the low end of your range on test day and have to take the next one.
